That shows the employer that you cant work in unfamilar conditions under pressure, if you cant get into a room full of strangers and discuss your background, how are you going to do that while on the job, discussing more complex ideas of which you may have limited familiarity…

I used your question in my high leadership interview: "Is there anything you see on my resume preventing me from being considered for this job?" The executive leadership panel looked shocked, stumbled on their words, and stated that it was the best question they had ever heard from all their interviews. They finally responded, I countered and sold myself, and within 4 hours I was called and offered the job! You are right, this question sealed the deal, I think! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

4:46 "I have a lot of ideas and opinions, so when asked for group input in meetings I have the urge to want to jump right in with what I’ve got. I learned a while back that 1. Some folks take a little longer to process a question, 2. People can be quite put-off by someone who always pipes up first up with ideas, and 3. Not every opinion needs to be heard. I’ve learned to give others space to give their input first, before I give my own every time." OMG did I need to hear that, interview or not. I'll be interviewing soon, and not only is this a great answer, it's an EXCELLENT reminder for me personally about something I already struggle with. Thank you for quantifying it the way you have. I've worked in places where that didn't happen and others where it did, but thinking about it the way you've put it here gives me the "structure" I need to act right and not become perceived as a know-it-all. Certain people can seriously hurt you if they have a grudge against you.
@1988jbk16 күн бұрын
I don't like that answer of hers. Why? Because she said earlier not to turn strengths into "weaknesses" also not humble brag when asked a weakness question, but that answer she gave is that she's doing all that by saying she has a lot of ideas and opinions but somehow turned into a weakness 🙄🙄

My problem with interviews is that it feels like a manipulation game from both sides. As an interviewee, I have no interest in constructing some narrative around my life so I can easily answer tired questions. I especially don't want to feel like I'm walking on a land mine having to choose my language. I'd rather be as honest as possible and not get the job.
@rachelbrenner4092Ай бұрын
I had the same feelings, but it is a game and we need to play it. The problem is we may not have the rule book. The best thing is to take charge at the beginning, begin with small talk, or point out some cool thing in their office. My goal is always to try to keep the conversation going or build rapport, it gets me the job offer more often than not. The more rapport you have the more it doesn't feel like an interview, but an actual conversation. And also remember, "It's nothing personal, it's just business."

I feel like interviewers should scrutinize a candidates work history, but should also equally scrutinize their previous employer/company. Sometimes you have a great candidate who has had a few jobs just not work out because of awful employers. If the company they previously worked for has super high turnover and is constantly advertising for the position that should be a clue as to maybe they are justified for leaving a position.
