These are great tips! I have all the charisma and confidence in interviews but after hearing your answers I'm definitely failing every question they're asking me in interviews. Have an interview later today hope I do well.

Do you have any hesitations about my background or skills in relation to this position? Why did you join the company and how long have you been here? What is your favorite part about working here? along with your least favorite How would you describe the culture in the (office, floor, warehouse, stadium, etc) What challenges is the business currently facing? What are the near/mid/long term goals of the company? What kind of team would I be working on? Is it collaborative, or more individually-focused? What challenges does someone in this role face What would you expect someone in my position to accomplish in the first few months on the job?

Hybrid is the way to go. WFH part of the time with all the benefits like no commute, can eat lunch at home etc, but still get that face to face time to collaborate and build relationships. I’ve worked a few remote shifts as a hospital pharmacist reviewing charts and verifying orders, and I can tell you that experience was good only bc I already knew all my coworkers and could reach out to them with questions or issues that needed to be taken care of in person. Because we already had a good relationship from working in person together they were agreeable and willing to help me.

I feel like interviewers should scrutinize a candidates work history, but should also equally scrutinize their previous employer/company. Sometimes you have a great candidate who has had a few jobs just not work out because of awful employers. If the company they previously worked for has super high turnover and is constantly advertising for the position that should be a clue as to maybe they are justified for leaving a position.

Excellent points. I often feel like a dinosaur with my notebook & writing things down. But, I then can review & asked 'bettet informed questions' later. It might be red flag if someone discouarges writing things down. Yes, I have had thst happen. Keep up the good work.

"Tell me about a time when you handled a conflict at work". My first response is, "I didn't make it worse". As a person in long term addiction recovery, many of our conversations are about appropriately handling everything from family issues, to work issues, to "standing in line at the grocery store" issues, etc, etc. Basically, the everyday living issues. With any or all of the situations just mentioned, our rule of thumb is, "Pause, avoid sarcasm, offer some understanding, and know that there are options to resolve a problem. The "pause" is critical, and allows us a few seconds to switch gears, and become helpful, build a bridge with someone, offer solutions, and above all "Don't make it worse"! I am now retired from one of the largest commercial airlines in the world, so you can imagine the endless opportunities to practice such behavior, not only with co-workers, and passengers, but the cranky couple at "Frank's Market". It works amazingly well. So the "tell me about a time", can be answered with, "I can tell you about 500 times"! 😉 All the best...Mark

I’m currently applying for jobs in healthcare and one employer sent me a Hirevue link. I’m seriously considering withdrawing my application and only interviewing with hospitals that reached out to me personally. I just feel like it’s a bad omen for what’s to come with this workplace.

Keep in mind people learn in different ways. We are like children. One way of learning isn’t conducive to everyone. It’s actually not fair to even expect that.

In my previous job, I made a mistake when I first started my job. My manager gave me an accounting project with a deadline of 3 days. My hard desire to impress my boss by how fast I could be made me make 6 little mistakes on the project. I learned from it and created a list of how I would never make the same mistakes, and I would always stick to this plan. I grew a lot in the company, but believe me or not no matter how hard I would try I couldn't get the initial reputation and trust from my boss and colleagues again. There would always be neglect somewhere in the air in regards to how good of a worker I was. Where I am going to is if you feel like everything has gone downhill from the moment you messed up, leaving a job where you cannot be appreciated is not always a lose but a getaway to new opportunities

I messed up something as I misunderstood the situation. I apologize, but I still feel so bad about myself, I know I won’t be happy if I were that person. I wish I could undone the mistake! However except apologies nothing I can do, it really upsets me. 😢😢😢

Cassondra, sometimes I have an issue with practicing answers. For some reason when I get into the interview, my natural inclination has changed slightly and I’m not willing to say exactly what I had prepared because something inside of me has changed. Maybe I’ve changed my tone or my assertiveness or some other characteristic of what I’m saying so it comes out different. I’m not sure if this is messing me upor not. I feel kind of out of my body during interviews sometimes and I end up just talking naturally. I don’t think it’s working.
