The ending of Smile 2 is very predictable, but the journey of how they got there made it worth it to me
@samueljean-jr346417 күн бұрын
I saw that ending coming the moment they mentioned the protagonist would be a pop star. What disappointed me was the rug pull done at the last 30 minutes past the rehab center scene. The jump scares and illusions were also too predictable and meaningless. I'm actually intrigued however for where they're going with the 3rd film.

Smile 2 was great until it ruined the ending. Smile 2 should've had a new formula for the ending instead of the same ending from the first movie. If Skye Riley defeated the demon in the freezer at the end, it would've been great and that would make people satisfy.

Saw smile 2 in the theatre and I thought it was better than the first movie. It really brought out the whole purpose of the smile demon it gives you false hope and then pulls from under the rug. We even got insight on how to weaken the demon and I think if skye had listened to Morris in the beginning it may have worked. Movie blew my mind too.

Agree with Trap being incredibly disappointing. The premise they gave in the trailers was so good, but that ended up not being the movie. Josh Hartnett was great, but the way focus shifted to making Shyamalans daughter the main character partway through was terrible. I feel like a lot of the nosensical things that happen in the movie are specifically done to keep the focus on her. There is no reason for her character to be in the movie outside of performing at the concert, and yet she's the main focus.
@Terelon17 күн бұрын
Yep, the movie was basically to showcase M. Knight's daughter's vocal skills
@bobross182917 күн бұрын
agree. Making her basically the superhero that saves everyone was very eye-rolling and smacked of nepotism. He wanted to make his daughter a star. Now there is nothing wrong with that if she does it herself, but the whole movie was just twisted to do so. It was like what Will Smith tried in After Earth.

Actually, she did have reason to be in the movie outside of the concert: (SPOILER) After the antagonist invites her to his family's house, she turns him into the police through a live video. I honestly loved Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. It was actually my favorite movie of the year. While yeah, the writing was messy, i wasn’t really bothered by it. I personally don’t go to a movie for story or writing, I mainly just go for entertainment value, and that’s what this movie delivered in spades. As I see it, the Beetlejuice movies aren’t meant to really be story-driven. They’re just meant to be fun visual spectacles. And that’s what they deliver on.
@holykicks612117 күн бұрын

I think In a Violent Nature could benefit by giving the killer a backing character like Jason and Mrs. Vorhees and you could have that person speak to the killer throughout in his mind. It would give exposition and give something more interesting than just soundscapes.
@oliversedgwick723617 күн бұрын
Definitely, everyone was so anonymous in that. You couldn't connect to the silent killer with almost 0 backstory/purpose, and we barely spent any time with the victims so it didn't really matter when people who mostly didn't even have names for more than 3mins were picked off.
@evanthompson418617 күн бұрын
@oliversedgwick7236 yeah i think a backstory for the killer and like I said another I guess you'd say protagonist that is the driving force behind the killer would help. It'd help make your silent killer not silent and give some meaning to what is happening.

My most disappointing film of the year is The Wild Robot. The first trailer promised that the film would be more bold and unique compared to other mainstream animated releases, but instead, the final product was just another generic family comedy. It was such an irritating and lazy experience that the more I thought about it, the more I disliked it. It was one of the most overhyped films ever made, and I'll never understand why everybody keeps hailing it as a masterpiece. Bullshit. I feel like smile 2s ending could have been more bleak and dark if they would have kept everything from, when she was in the rehab center to the very end of the movie, as “real” because I thought she was going to be on stage beat up and bloody and the whole crowd was going to be in shock with what just happened to her only to then off herself in front of them. I think they played to much on the psychological aspect of the entity and just made me wonder so all the events that transpired throughout the film never happened so was she literally just doing rehearsals without knowing?

The biggest ones were also for me the Joker sequel and Trapped. The Joker II was basically a middle finger to the entire audience and I have never seen a movie do that, especially when the first one made a billion and won Oscars. I never seen people who made and were in a movie so embarrassed about being in a movie that did that well. It was a real eye opener how much politics rule Hollywood. The wrong type of people liked Joker, so they intentionally burned their own movie down. Trapped main problem was nepotism and the director wanting to make his daughter a star. (mild spoiler) Until he gets out of the arena, this was at least plausible as the killer was playing on people's sympathies and using his daughter. But after that, it became Shyamalan's daughter's movie and she became the hero who defeats that bad guy and saves everyone. It was eye rolling and just ruined the entire movie. It was not even like she was bad in the role, it was entirely the sudden superboss girl plot it turned into.

You should take chances instead of just solely listening to what people on KZbin say. You'll end up surprising yourself here and there.

@KPUP98 aside from critics, I generally won't support any major studios or any remake, reboot or sequel (especially if their predecessor came 10+ years prior). So that eliminates a good bulk. I saw some amazing movies this year, Flow, A Real Pain, The Outrun and terrifier 3 being my favorites and others were entertaining. I'm happy w my system and I refuse to support these conglomerate studios that are void of creativity

I haven’t seen it yet, but in a violent nature looks and sounds like a really cool concept that could make for an excellent franchise if done correctly

Smile 2 is one of those movies that you watch once and then never again. I can appreciate a lot of aspects of it, but it didn’t land for me.

I will not watch Joker 2, ever. I do not want the first one destroyed so I've stayed away from any kind of plot line or spoiler reviews to keep it pure even though I can guess by the trailer where it went. I'm glad Cody took one for the team because his initial review was crucial to my avoidance. I was set to go opening weekend and then hit the brakes hard.

I feel like Smile 2 was a good film but I already knew coming into it that it was going to be predictable. They would have to do a lot story wise to surprise me. That being said I was shocked to see this on your list. 😂

The way Cody felt about Smile 2 with it being overhyped and just feeling like its just ok is how i felt about Longlegs. It underwelmed me. It has its moments and a few solid performances but i generally felt bored alot of the time and the ending didn't hit for me the way it did for others. I'm gonna rewatch it soon but right now it's a sold 6.5/7 out of 10

Some of the things you said about Trap could have been explained if it was revealed to be in the Unbreakable universe. Which I was really hoping for by the end of the film and it never came... 😞

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire might be the most disapponting movie of 2023. It really tried to do too much and didn’t serve anything in it well. Also, it’s the movie that’s soured me on nostalgia as a narrative tool.

You took the literal words right out of my mouth about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice! 😂 the plot line with that boy & Jenna Ortega character...my boyfriend & i looked at each other after it was resolved & said "wow..that got solved quicker than I thought" 😂 waaaay too much going on with that movie & I feel terrible that is was kind of a flop. And that intro for Beetlejuice's ex was fire! I perked right up watching that & her plot was like wah-wahmp by the end. So disappointing!

Hm, I've never put much thought into this category, but I'll give it a shot: Argylle; Hit Man; I Saw the TV Glow; Maxxxine; The Strangers; Twisters; Werewolves. Argylle was fine for the first 2 acts, but they lost me with 2 things... ice skating on CG oil, and the idea that there's a place in the heart where you can shoot someone and they will be completely fine in a matter of minutes. If you're going to have a character skate on oil, go back to 2002 and watch The Transporter. Take notes. Hit Man was just not as funny or interesting as I expected from Glen Powell. I Saw the TV Glow ended just as I was expecting the 3rd act to start. Maxxxine was okay, but I just didn't think any part of it was scary. I absolutely hated the protagonists in The Strangers, and rooted for the killers the whole time. Twisters was... unnecessary, and so was the extra money I spent to see it in IMAX. Werewolves seemed like it would be a fun bad movie, but it wasn't fun. The editing of that movie was the worst I've seen in decades.

If it wasn't for M. Night Shyamalan making the movie Trap centered around his daughter as a market to launch her career and more on the elements behind Josh Hartnett's character, it wouldve been better. It was a total bait and switch, sellout of a movie. I loved The Bikeriders yet the ending pissed me off due to it's predictability. Smile 2 I enjoyed yet was terrifed at a lot of moments in the movie but the ending threw me a curveball. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire I enjoyed too.

I noticed a pattern like every 4 years there is always a big event like in the year 2016 we got trump elected and everyone going on a meltdown, then 2020 we got Corona virus, and 2024 we got a shit ton of stuff like trump getting reelected and people also went on a melt down, so 2028 is gonna be insane lol
