Tbh LostProphets don't deserve the hate just because of Ian Watkins. I am not a fan of their brand of rock, but the band is actually pretty talented. Ian is just a fucked up dude. This is one of the problems with bands; as soon as the frontman is outed as a douche, the band suffers with him.

First of all: Not necessarily the same people expressing both sentiments. Also: I think often it's about the amount and the direction. People want the exact right amount of change. Just enough so it doesn't become boring but not so much that what made it cool in the first place (often the intensity and sadness and anger). Which is kinda ironic, because I think a lot of the artists are really suffering before and when they become big and then they either stay the same (creating similar music) and then die of suicide or drugs abuse or some mixture. Or they actually get to a better place and become older and more content, which is great for them but it tends to take away from the original intensity.

I actually got to meet Winger when I was 12 years old at a record store here in Kansas City. Edit: I forgot to say this earlier: In an interview, Andy said that screaming was never actually meant to be in their songs, the only reason why there were screaming sections (calling them such because they still have a fry-scream here and there in an album) in songs was because Andy didn't know how to write a bridge. AC/DC is iconic and Brian Johnson's vocals are unique so why would they change? Metallica did some questionable music choices with questionable antics but compared to other artists they aren't bad. BVB is just a good simple hard rock band that I don't get the hate either. Andy is a terrific singer and he seems like a nice dude behind the scenes. The reputation of Lostprophets is completely destroyed because of the horrifically disgusting the lead singer is. Creed is good in doses But fuck Nickelback mainly because someone needs to put Chad in his place because his ego makes him so fucking unlikable.

AC/DC has never sucked, but their recent albums in their "geriatric era" have definitely lost their edge. Change is fine, as long as it isn't read by the fans as selling out (like Metallica). Metallica started selling out much sooner actually. Early on, they claimed no ballads ever. They soon had a ballad on nearly every release. They said they would never make MTV videos, but that slipperly slope was cracked with One. They used to mock hair metal including Motley Crue relentlessly, then went and got their Dr. Feelgood producer for the Black album all the way thru St Anger. Riff after riff after riff became one simple riff repeated ad nauseum, covers of NWOBM bands were replaced by covers of Bob Seger and the like, and the image of teenage heshers was replaced by queer eye for the metal guy. They've tried to reclaim their look and sound from the 80's, and have hit the mark somewhat (but still landing more in the early 90s).

When people do the typical BVB disclaimer of "But the guitarists are talented" (or some variation thereof), I always feel a little upset that the drummer, CC, gets left out. CC is one of the most talented drummers in music today; what he can do with his drum setup is insane (his drum setup itself is insane - at least in comparison to other drummers in the genre). Also, they have a new bassist now who's extremely talented, so their musical lineup is top-notch. Andy's even done a lot to work on his vocals and I think they're even better than they were before. When I took guitar lessons, my teacher was a bit of a music snob (metal elitist, maybe?). When I asked to learn one of BVB's songs, he was actually impressed by the music and the talent of the guitarists. It was honestly super satisfying seeing the surprise from my teacher, who'd gone in with expectations that he'd find nothing redeemable about them. From that moment on, I put even less stock in the hate BVB got.

And the new bassist Lonny Eagleton brought the bass lines to a higher level. He’s better than Ashley by a long shot imo. can’t say I’m really all that into Black Veil Brides, but another drummer that I think takes the cake for one of the best drummers is Kai Hahto from Nightwish. I believe he has another band called Wintersun, but I might even be thinking of Marko Hietala… but anyway. Kai is a very, VERY diverse drummer and one of the best Nightwish performances I’ve seen him in is in Tampere, Finland when Nightwish performed ‘Ghost Love Score’ (also, Floor Jansen’s vocals were top notch in that show). Do check Kai out, he’s an incredible drummer!!

I mean, it's true that AC/DC hasn't changed in 40 years (there is almost no difference between Rock or Bust and Back In Black), but it works for them. Their formula works. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. The thing with Metallica is because they changed for the worse. One thing is going softer without betraying your fanbase (perfect examples: Coma Ecliptic by Between The Buried And Me, South of Heaven by Slayer and Damnation by Opeth), and another one is doing bad music claiming is "change" (like St Anger and Lulu by Metallica, Cold Lake by Celtic Frost, Endorama by Kreator or Illud Divinum Insanus by Morbid Angel). And Metallica went the wrong way.
