Why do you say that legato is not a way to shredd? It is a technique, and if you master it you can become a shredder, such as with alternate picking.
@AlejandroMangold
@AlejandroMangold 7 жыл бұрын
yes, I know, besides alternate there is sweep picking, multiple-finger tappin', skip-string picking, etc. But legato is another valid technique just as these other are. And most important: why do you say that shredding implies an aggressive sound? That's another misconception. Shred is to play with speed, virtuosity and technical complexity and skill, no matter if it is smooth or aggressive or in between. If it is aggressive what defines it, then thrash rhythm guitar parts would be shred (that's aggressive for sure).
@mariahthompson5223
@mariahthompson5223 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I agree completely. Michael Romeo of Symphony X does tapping sequences which are magnificent. I guess its probably like a sweep tap that he does, but if its not shredding, then the term really is misused.

He signed a guitar for me too, at a CD signing session in Dallas, Tx. Great guy. I've also got Dimebag's, Vinnie Pauls', at the opening of Mars Music store in Dallas, again great guys, Dave Mustaine's at Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine, Tx. and last but not least Jason Bonham's at a Guitar Center in North Dallas. All on the same guitar. Tried to get Robin Trower's when he played the Canyon Club in Dallas, but he wouldn't sign it. Just ignored me after his show when I asked him. He's an asshole, but the bassist/singer went back up to the stage when he saw what happened and got me one of Trower's used guitar picks, but I lost it & didn't care.

Tosin Abasi is a guitarist that absolutely blew me away. Not long ago I went to the Generation Axe concert where I had the pleasure of seeing Yngwie, Zakk, Nuno Bettencourt, Steve Vai and Tosin Abasi. You had four heavy weights up on stage and then a relatively unknown guitarist to the general public in Tosin Abasi and not only did he steal the show for me, but it was much more enjoyable for me to sit through as opposed to Yngwie. Don't get me wrong either I LOVE Yngwie, Zakk, Steve and Nuno, but there was something special about how Tosin played and how embraced the stage.

Marty friedman, Joe Satriani, John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert should be on the top 5. I mean besides speed, they have melody. Their playing is eargasmic. It is not only speed that counts

I liked how they described buckethead. His guitar skills are super insane and his music ranges from calm, soulful and beatiful to crazy, fast ang agresive. And he basically can write all diferent kinds of music. And tho most of people cant stand his super ultra shred albums, where he shreds in his robotic style and all that crazy stuff, I love it! I love 99 percent of what buckethead makes. Not all albums are awesome, but you cant make every album a masterpiece if you upload it so often. But just remember that buckethead creates whatever he wants and whenever he wants and he doesnt care wjat people think if he tries something new. He is not afraid of experimenting on guitar and thats why I love him! His soulful albums calm down my soul and his crazy albums inspire me as a musician. And overall he is awesome person and he is my biggest inspiration in life!

Big B is my favorite as well. I like how people compare him to the classical artists such as Mozart or Bach. He really is a genius of our time
