Pikachu is Japanese mickey...hate on him if you want but without his gender neutral adorable yet cool design and his presence the series wouldn't be as well known..the series needed a face so parents would feel okay letting their kids play the games and watch the show and buy the cards ...the show wouldn't be as well known if say clefairy was the mascot like originally planned as boys would be turned off and parents would find it weird looking...pkachu looks so cute that oarents got fooled into thinking the series wasn't about weird monsters that fight..pikachus bright yellow red cheeks and tail are what made it stick out but its small figure combined with its explosive electric attacks are unique and give it an edge that you don't expect...imagine the main pokemon of ashs team being a girly clefairy aka a normal type with no real attacks..how boring..

My problem with Greninja (and Pikachu before him) is that his popularity is essentially being pushed on people by Gamefreak and Nintendo Gamefreak: *shoves Greninja in my face* "Love this pokemon. It's cool, see?" Me: "But I don't really-" Gamefreak: "LOVE IT!"

the same thing happens with lugia (has a two movies, special in the anime and ho-oh literally just got seconds in screen in his supposed movie), lucario (it's a furry bait and gamefreak puts him in everything, has a movie, a mega, has to much screen time in the anime, he and pikachu are the only not starter pokemon in super mystery dungeon), mewtwo (has two movies, a special in the anime, gamefreak gives him two megas and that it's complete contradiction to the concept of mega evolution)

And yes, I know that's what "overrated" means, and that's literally the same as saying "it's not as good as many people made it out to be", which doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.

Umbreon is EXTREMELY overrated. I love Espeon, definitely by far my favorite Eeveelution and one of my all time favorite Pokemon ever, but people always tell me how wrong I am and that I need to change my opinion because of how terrible Umbreon's fan base is. People spamming it in faces all the time saying that it's the "best Eeveelution in competitive," but it isn't good; it's just a troll. Toxic, Curse, Payback, Confuse Ray, Double Team (and yes, I know no one uses Confuse Ray or Double Team, that is what one Kimono lady as well as Koren do in game) and a little thing called Foul Play to keep your physical attackers in check. And Umbreon just won't go down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 110 in defence and 130 special, this thing annoys me to death both with its fan base and it in competitive

My thoughts on each Pokemon mentioned Arceus: Perhaps a little overrated, but I disagree that its design is bad. It looks majestic and god-like while still looking like a Pokemon. Tyranitar: I have to agree here. It's certainly strong and cool, but there are a lot of stronger and cooler Pokemon out there IMO. Mewtwo: I love Mewtwo. It's my third favorite Pokemon of all time. I think it deserves its popularity, but I don't think that it deserved two mega evolutions. Zoroark: I'd never really thought of this Pokemon as overrated before, but I see where you're coming from. It is weird that they gave it a movie, but I haven't really heard anyone claiming it to be as powerful as a legendary. Gardevoir: Yeah, I never really understood why this Pokemon was so popular (outside of some dodgy images in the corners of the internet). It's pretty cool, but there are cooler Pokemon out there IMO. Greninja: I definitely agree. I really like Greninja, but it's pretty unfair that it got to have an overpowered hidden ability, to be in Smash Bros, to have an entire season of the anime centered around it, to star in the demo and to get a whole new form, while the other starters got nothing of the sort. And as much as I love this Pokemon, any Pokemon that gets number 1 in a large popularity contest without being one of my absolute favorites is overrated in my book. Garchomp: This Pokemon is my favorite pseudo, but I agree that it isn't as strong as people make it out to be. That said, back in gens 4 it was incredibly good in competitive, and it even got banned to Ubers. Lucario: Like Greninja, Lucario is a Pokemon I love but one that is perhaps too popular and gets too much praise. In its non-mega form, it's base 90 speed prevents it from being the threatening sweeper it should be, but it's mega evolution turns it into an absolute powerhouse at least. Pikachu: It would be hard to argue against this one... (That said, I love Pikachu because it was my player Pokemon in my first PMD game) Charizard: Pretty much what I said about Lucario. Plus two mega evolutions was overkill, especially when Venusaur and Blastoise only got one. Most of these Pokemon are ones that I really like, but feel that they perhaps take away the spotlight a little too much from other Pokemon I also really like, such as Torterra or Aipom.

I can understand why Pikachu is overrated. People are amazed Ash's is so strong they think it can sweep through everything. The same goes for Garchomp. And Greninja. And I think Arceus is the most overrated Pokémon because it's God and people think it can win every battle on its own.

I think it's more fitting to say Pikachu is overexposed, not quite the same thing as overrated. Most players of the games know Pikachu's stats are junk, and its performance in the anime is basically a running joke. Let us never forget that it defeated a Golem with Thunderbolt. That alone clearly establishes how seriously its anime superpowers should be taken. Anyone who's played Pokemon Yellow knows Pikachu's in-battle capability is garbage.

Raichu is best pokémon since 96. Alolan Raichu was a much needed spotlight for my favorite Pokémon. Since they don't have the balls to permanently change Pikachu, I would hope that if they keep the "Regional Forms" thing going, Raichu is the mascot for that. I would love to see a /Fairy and a /Fight Raichu in the future.

Well tbh the main reason Charizard got 2 mega evolutions because that was kind of quirk they're giving him. Because remember the three gen 1 starts all were given something that they excelled in. Blastiose had a giant move pool, Charizard had great speed and great move versatility, and Venasaur.....ummmm he has flowers. But my point is the mega evolutions were to cater to the quirk of versatility, so two mega evolutions caused diversity and versatility. But fan service was apart of it.
