Man, I can’t tell you how appreciative I am to have found your channel in the midst of this terrible lockout. As someone who does baseball research and analysis as a hobby, your content is awesome to have. Another great video, thanks, man.

Only reason the Damon one is a shocker is because when he was on the Red Sox he said he would never play for the Yankees.

Great list. I was half expecting a list to be full of busts but I'm glad there were "shocking" deals that were considered good. Of course with hindsight being 20/20 the Angels organization spending money stupidly isn't all that shocking lol. As a Cubs fan the Alfonso Soriano signing was shockingly stupid, but then again we're talking about the Cubs.

Thank you good sir! Ya know I loved that Soriano signing when it happened because I just liked Soriano, but it definitely turned out not to be a good contract lmao

Everybody remembers the D-Backs and Johnson Schilling, and the Giants and Barry, but the Dodgers averaged 90 wins from 00-04 and had Kevin Brown, Chan Ho Park, Hideo Nomo, baby Beltre, Sean Green with back to back 156 OPS+, and Eric "Breakfast of Champions" Gagne.
@guyincognito3202 жыл бұрын
I remember Brown signed with the Dodgers and reading SI about it. They also had Sheffield and just too many stars to name. They've been trying hard the whole century and only one WS

Just a small correction. Cliff Lee was never trade for Roy Halladay. The Phillies did two different trades. One with the Mariners where they sent Cliff Lee for prospects and another one with the Blue Jays for Doc sending prospects. The prospects traded in each trade was different btw.

Ellsbury should be on this list somewhere. Carl Crawford, BJ Upton also comes to mind.
@rhyde2 жыл бұрын
I definitely considered Crawford, went with Daisuke because of how big the posting fee was though. Ellsbury and Upton are definitely worth of being here too. I found the Crawford signing to be more surprising than shocking, if that makes sense?

The Albert Pujols situation reminds me a little bit of what Freddie Freeman is going through right now. Freeman isn’t anywhere near as good as Pujols but I can see a team coming out of nowhere like the Angels did and steal him.
@rhyde2 жыл бұрын
Definitely possible!
@chrisweidner47682 жыл бұрын
The Pujols signing wasn’t shocking. Huge new TV deal. Albert is the greatest combination of power and batting eve ever. His first year as an Angel, 50 doubles and 30 HR. Then the foot and knee problems. Unforeseen. Can’t hit without your legs.

A lot of people in Seattle were unhappy that A-Rod took such a big contract to leave the Mariners 🤣
@guyincognito3202 жыл бұрын
Arod is the most irrelevant great player of all time. He went to Texas and was irrelevant there. Then went to the Yankees to be on a dumb all star team where they could've used anyone else decent at 3B. Steroids since high school. Just boring all around.

What Robinson Cano signing with the Mariners?? Yankees never lost out on one of their big free agents ever. And I know all the yankee fans say they didn’t want Robbie, that is BS. Instead they made a huge mistake signing Jacoby Ellsbury instead of Cano!!

@@baseball6071 so he’s a 42 year old platoon DH only bat who can’t run at all in any possibility and has big ego. There is like no one who should want him other than to sell tickets. People can clown on the Angels but the only person who is responsible for Pujols being one of the worst players in the league the last few years is Pujols
@Garrett12402 жыл бұрын
@@thpnob8419 What a bunch of nonsense. Pujols has no ego; he's averaged over 30 homers and well over 100 RBIs per 162 games over the last decade. He's been perhaps the worst victim of the shift which exploded in use over the same period. Evidence of this is his groundout double-play numbers and miniscule strikeouts. For instance, last season struckout only 45 times in 109 games.
