Nice share john. I am a fan of the 68 cards. The clemente and mantles are 2 great ones. Thanks for sharing

My mom had placemats for the dining table when I was younger. So, I always called these cards the placemat cards.😁 No surprise on the top two. Another great video John.

Hi John. Another great informative video. No doubt that the Ryan is #1. I really like the pose of the Mantle card. Well done as always John, thanks for sharing.

The 68 design isn’t my favorite but I don’t hate it either. I think I remember a story from Jerry Koosman where he joked about not being able to afford his own rookie card. As always, love the series & thanks for sharing John.

Thanks Doug! Yeah, must be the same for all the other players who are pictured with big name hall of famers on their rookie card. My local eye doctor's Dad had a very short stint in the majors (I think he only got one official at-bat), but has a rookie card in the 1963 set. My doctor is so glad he wasn't paired up with Rose! LOL

Very cool video, John! I don't think there were any surprises as to the players featured, but it was eye-opening to see what folks would spend.

Thanks Danny! I know! Always amazes me how much money is spent by some people on cards.

Thanks for another great video, John. Lot of future HOF's in this set. Surprised not more of the Allstar cards didn't make it. It's a nice subset to collect. Someone has a lot of money to pay out that much for some of the cards. Too rich for my budget.

I love that there are multiple issues of the set. You have Topps, O pee chee, Milton Bradley and Venezuelan versions, all with different degrees of difficulty. Great Video.

Thanks! Yeah, definitely a few ways to collect cards from that year. I’m thinking 68 was the last year for Venezuelan cards???

McCormick #400 error should be in top ten.
@WadeBoggsFan
@WadeBoggsFan 2 ай бұрын
True, however I typically don't include error cards that have low pop counts (only 34 have been graded a PSA 6 and only 155 total have been graded) since the rarity sometimes inflates the price. But yes, if I had included that card it would have come in as the second most valuable 68 Topps card behind the Seaver rookie in a PSA 6.

so Lou Brock is 520 and Jim Palmer is card 575. questions 1. are cards 498 to 598 difficult to find because there in demand and nobody has them or except for Brock and Palmer all other cards are common cards and nobody wants them? if you ask me I don't believe that high cards carry more value than low number cards? or are rarer looking at this set which players would you rather have card 145 Don Drysdale , Card 150 Roberto Clemente card 220 Killebrew or would you rather have these high serise cards Jim Davenport card 525 , John Edwards card 558 , Larry Sheppard card 584 Low cards or high cards? everytime a dealer tells me the high numbers are in demand and harder to find I don't listen to them? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i'm surprised that Bench rookie wasn't number 2 I'm surprised that a later year card Mantle is number 2. I would have thought Mantle should be number 3 , Bench 2 and Ryan 1. i'm also surprised that Yaz wasn't in the top 10 I don't expect the top 5 but around 9th place would have been fair.

The reason why high number series cards (both commons and star players) are more expensive is that by the time Topps released the last series of their cards for the year (the "high number series"), it was usually around the time that football season started. So kids were more interested in buying football cards than baseball cards. So Topps didn't produce as many of those cards since they realized that they wouldn't sell as well as their earlier series cards when they didn't need to compete as much with other sports cards. So fewer of those cards survive today than lower numbered cards in the set. So for people who are looking to complete an entire set or who want to collect the more popular players from the high number series, the prices they have to pay are higher in comparison because they are harder to find. So the next time a dealer tells you that cards from the high number series are worth more, even commons, they are right. Since I don't collect common cards from vintage sets, only hall of famers, I'm more interested in cards like Drysdale, Clemente, and Killebrew.

@@WadeBoggsFan same answers for me so it shows that i'm correct more people would rather have card145 Don Drysdale 150 Clemente , and 220 Killebrew and those are the low numbers as opposed to high numbers Jim Davenport 525 , John Edwards 558 and Larry Sheppard card 584.. theres a few players worth mentioning Louis Tiant he's a common but better than most , Roy White he was a pretty good player a common but like Tiant better than the others Clete Boyer and Sandy Alomar so for Brock, Palmer , Tiant, White and Clete, Sandy that's all I would say about the high numbers of this set. so let's say what your saying let's say theres 3,000 cards of Tom Seaver card 45 and let's say that Bill Denhy has 850 of card 526 which card would you think most people would rather have not just the people on youtube but collectors around the US? same grade and condition? to me I go by the player not the number on the back of the card?

You are correct that for the most part cards of well known players and hall of famers sell for more than common players. But if you compare a card of a common player or even a well known player from the high number series to a similar card in the lower numbered series, the higher number series card will generally sell for more because there are less of them available. Again, the reason why those common or good players cards sell for more than some hall of famers is that there are so few of those cards that have been graded by PSA at those high grades compared to others.
