@mlikoipura
@mlikoipura 8 жыл бұрын
Anton K Or simply let people vote the ranking,even you must have some preferences.We are not critics,we don't have to say they are all equally great so we don't destroy our reputation.
@antonk6359
@antonk6359 8 жыл бұрын
Nathaniel Joseph Claw Then you'll get the IMDb situation. People, most of whom know none of the figures I listed, simply voting for their favorite directors. Popular directors like Christopher Nolan will be placed *way* above lesser-known, but more critically acclaimed directors. Ranking art isn't really wise - unless, of course, it's clearly a harmless, personal opinion. Mojo says this is their top picks - so it's okay, but yeah - ranking art is not the wisest thing in the world.

+Itzz Chino Buddy, probably there's a lot of things that you ignore, and of course you should run and learn them. I'm sorry to tell you but "the funny number 2" could teaching direction to Allen, Tarantino, Coen brothers and to the most in this list... And don't forget that there's a lot of great movie masters from Russia, Asia, France, Italy and other times and places in cinema history that aren't mentioned here and they all would easily win a match with everyone here. Probably, you're a fan of some modern director that finds inspiration in Hitchcock's work and use it for his movies... but you're not able to see the difference. So, please, take you're ticket, seat on the couch and start, once again.

I don't know that I'd agree that Tarkovsky is better than Kubrick, but I think the mere the fact that it seems to come down to a choice between then in your mind as it does in mine is telling. As great as they both are, the have so many things in common as artists, both obvious and indefinable, that it does seem like squeezing both of them onto a list this short would be superfluous and would create an imbalance in terms of recognizing the full breadth of all that can be done in film.

+rps121 If you consider a great director in the purest story telling sense Spielberg is an excellent director. Aside from Schindlers and Private Ryan - his ability to entertain is top notch. Jaws, Close Encounters, and Raiders are examples of incredibly skillful storytelling. I'm not saying best ever or anything - but the guy does his job and delivers.

Fun? hahahaha cinema is not an entertainment as TV, that's why we call it big screen, bigger quality, better language through metaphors without TV usual clichés. If you put Spielberg n' Woody Allen among way greater renaissance men like Hitchcock, Bergman, Kurosawa, Kubrick, etc. then you got a serious problem of criterium or you're just being childish n' a fanboy. Spielberg is for benchwarmers n' not for serious people who actually likes to think after the film. Pretentious fans?
