A lot of people are discussing what fight scenes were left out and what fight scenes don't deserve to be on this list. But can we appreciate how well edited/narrated this list is? There's such smooth transitions between each entry on the list, with the music of one fight scene blending into that of another. And you actually get to hear the fight scene's original audio complete with its soundtrack and sound effects. Not to mention the extra bits of trivia you wouldn't normally hear about. Gotta love Cinefix's style of editing. Not to bash Watchmojo but they would've just abruptly ended each clip, added random stock music in the background and just described the fight scene rather than commenting on something more insightful about the artistic merits of the fight scene.

The thing I love most about the Old Boy fight (besides the amazing one take, obviously!) is how REAL it feels, especially in comparison to other movie fights. It’s brutal, they get winded, the protagonist actually gets hit! Hell, he gets his ASS handed to him on multiple occasions! It’s just gnarly and beautifully choreographed and it’s absolutely an all-time great fight scene without a doubt.

This isn’t the slickest, flashiest fight scene ever, but for pure entertainment I love the sword fight between The Dread Pirate Roberts (Westley) and Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride. It has action, humor, exposition, and the heartfelt touching moments of gentlemanly respect between them. It does a great job simultaneously parodying the swashbuckling sword fights of classic Hollywood and wonderfully typifying them.

Bruce Lee as a scene has no job being on this list. There's nothing in it except speed and his face and that one doesn't even change ffs. Strange since these dudes crucified John Wick, cause one could argue they share precisely the same approach on the one on ones (I don't think so. Wick 1 was refreshingly original and consistent to the character - they lost it with the third part I admit).

@dealerofdeth9 жыл бұрын
shaky cam is cancer. That shit is EVERYWHERE in US action films, I fucking swear! We need to start a petition. I am serious
@bamb0ostick9 жыл бұрын
+zolikoff The problem is that there's good shaky-cam and there's bad. Ever since the Bourne trilogy there's been tons of other directors that tried it and failed. The key to good shaky cam is to add to the visceral fight but still be able to see what's going on. The Desh vs Bourne fight was fast, intense but you can still see what is happening to each person getting hit. If you watch the really bad examples of shaky cam (like the Taken sequels) you'll see the difference. There's definitely tons of people analyzing what makes good and bad shaky cam if you're interested. Check this video out by Stuckmann: watch?v=eac0lXfMs9c If you don't want to watch the whole thing jump to time stamp 10:11 in part 5 of that video where he talks about shakycam.

Because the director THINKS fights in real life are confusing and chaotic. In those situations where it looks messy, it's not the fight that's messy, it's the fighters. That, somehow, connects with the classic anti shaky cam argument, bad technique.

That movie has so many great fight scenes. I think my favorite was the fight on the staircase where he went up several flights of stairs fighting a horde of people the entire time. It's my favorite because they did the entire scene with no cuts so by the time he got to the top you could see the exhaustion in him. Plus, as with Ong Bak, he didn't use any wires in this movie either.

As a former teacher of Jeet Kune Do with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I was very impressed with the alley Daredevil fight in the nextflix Season One. It’s long, brutal, and the actor has to play it as if he’s blind not looking at the strikes coming but “sensing” them. I’ve seen tons of kung fu movies, and that scene was very impressive.

I recommend the INSIDER video on it, the thumbnail is 'How Bourne Ruined Action Films' or something of the sort. I agree with the conclusion of the video, Bourne did shaky cam *the right way.* They didn't sacrifice the readability of the scene, though nauseating. Pauses, close ups, and focus on prop and tool use make the scenes easy to follow, despite shaky cam. It's the movies that copied this trend, _cough cough Liam Neeson films cough_ that took shaky cam too far and, like fly wire, used shaky cam to substitute rather than complement good choreography which really ruined action sequences.

The Raid 2 leads the other fight movies in one particular regard: The continuity of perspective during the fight. You always know where you are and who is moving in which direction. Not saying any of the films mentioned lack perspective. Just that Raid 2 does it better. The other scene that comes close, in recent memory, is the final fight in Chocolate, the Thai movie, where everyone is clinging and falling from the exterior of a building.

The inclusion of Donnie Yen twice on this list is awesome. He may not be well known in the states, but to fans of martial arts films, he's one of the top superstars of the film world. However, my favorite of his fight scenes, even more so than SPL, is his final scene from Flashpoint. It's a huge, brutal scene, and while the scene from SPL is great and flash, Flashpoint has the kind of brutal, bone crunching fight at the end that makes you flinch and grit your teeth, while also holding your attention throughout the entire 8 minute scene.

I think Cinefix must mean "Top10 Martial Arts Fight Scenes". For my money one of the best fight scenes in cinema history was the fist fight on the range in The Big Country with Gregory Peck. The scene is beautiful, brutal, human, it moves the story and changes the characters, while also putting the characters and story into visual context. Only fight I've ever seen in a movie where it is clear they fight for ages. Until both men can barely lift their arms. It is my vote for best film fight ever.
