It belongs on another list like "top 10 movies with magic items we wish existed" or something. In the world of Star Wars, lightsabers really are magic swords. Most people don't realize because who cares to read any stuff about how lightsabers work, but... there you have it. They maybe could've chosen the FTL drive from Star Wars and the transporter from Star Trek. But, you'd still have the "is it futuristic" argument.

In avengers endgame, its revealed that Howard Stark (Tony's father) had a schauffer/assistant named Jarvis. On another note, i'd prefer an android to a lightsaber, i mean, lightsabers are cool, but in real life androids are much more useful, particularly the walking ones able to do human tasks.

Whether it's the "machine" from 1982's Brainstorm or the far more portable version seen in 1995's Strange Days... the neural recorder would be incredible! Both movies showed the dark side of such a device, but imagine "living" the experiences of an astronaut, a person hang gliding from the summit of K2, or surfing a 50' wave and catching the perfect tube every time. Hard to believe this didn't even get an honorable mention.

exoskeletons similar to those in Elysium are actually being developed. They look almost the same except for some details. No neural connection in the real ones and a huge battery pack. Lockheed Martin is working on military ones.

2 problems I have with this list. 1 is that the inception dream sharing and the matrix headjack are (aside from some cons and pros to each, like more chance of getting lost in a dream and having to have a cybernetic implant in your brain) basically the same thing. shared virtual reality 2 - the surgery pod from Prometheus got more screen time and was cool, but I would rather have 1 of the med bays from Elysium than a million of the Prometheus pods. The surgical pod basically looks like a basic emergency robotic surgeon, but aside from a laser scalpel it doesn't seem to do a hell of a lot that a doctor cant today. the med bays on Elysium on the other hand can regrow a face or arm that's been blown off, cure any disease, and even apparently reverse aging. True that would make 2 entries from 1 movie, but just replace the cool but limited exoskeleton with the Spartan Mjolnir armor from halo, which offers all the speed and strength in greaer measures, and also provides full body protection with armor and shields. Not a movie? just count it from halo - forward unto dawn. direct to dvd, but a movie all the same

The transporter had been in SF books for decades. Dr Who had the trans-mat beam in the early 60's but the transporter made it to US television (then the movies by inheritance) for two reasons, money and time. Creator Gene Roddenberry realized filming a spaceship landing and taking off one or more times an episode would cost too much (even with stock footage) and waste time better used to tell the story.

-robotic doctors do exist -memory manipulation does exist -we already have exoskeletons -you can slow down time by simply travailing around the earth or through space -shared dreaming is possible through lucid dreaming or astro-projection.... - we have hover-boards in their prototype stages, not the weird one you see Viners use -transporting digital information with lasers has already been done -we do have high powered lasers now so light sabers can't be too far away -some people do see the world as a matrix-like reality, some even report "glitches in the matrix"---events that deify reality as we understand it -cyborgs definitely do exist due to more technologically advanced prosthetic limbs -we already have holographic devices, and we have systems like Watson already serving us...if we combine these two things together you could create something like J.A.R.V.I.S.....also,if we can make the A.I. and I.Q. levels higher you could also make advanced robotic humanoids, like Asimo from japan.... ~Welcome to the future motherfuckers! Most of your scifi dreams are already real!
