I guess it all depends on when he was born. I has always thought he was born in the mid forties-early fifties. But it guess it's possible for him to have been born in the late thirties. That would mean he would be in his early eighties. It's possible though since older people are living longer nowadays. My grandmother is 84 and her maternal aunt lived to be 102 years old. She died 2 years ago 2 months after her birthday.

I was a kid in the Bay Area when the zodiac was running around within a few miles of our school, so when he threatened kids, the police came to our school to tell us not to walk home from school alone, to run to a neighbors house, not to play outside...etc. we were petrified. I was up watching the news early one morning when the zodiac called in. I couldn't believe it. His voice was just so weird, like he was just reciting facts. So chilling. The look on the news anchors faces. I think they couldn't really believe it either. It was a lot for a 10 year old to take in. Around that same time, there was a horrendous murder of a stanford student in the Stanford chapel. It was a hideous ritual killing on the altar. The whole thing was hushed up but it still got out and they never discovered who the killer was or what the motive was...you can Google it. The story is unbelievable.

@@nateroseman I'm sorry, it's really awful...my mom worked at Stanford and I used to hang out there all the time, and never heard about it when it happened, which seems so strange, but the university had massive pull with the news then, and I think they were able to keep it under wraps for awhile. I remember finally reading the details on the internet and practically choking, I went to church there a few times with friends! It just seemed insane! The fact that they never solved it was weird too. Oddly, at the same time as this and the zodiac, there was a serial rapist haunting the Berkeley campus. He was nicknamed "stinky the rapist" because he smelled so awful. My friends sister went there, and her classmate was a victim...

He did say that he was at Lake Berryessa the day the two college kids were attacked and claimed his bloody knife was from killing a chicken. He did live very close to Darlene Ferrin when she was killed.Michael Migeau (sp?) did actually pick his photo out of an array,which did lead the police to want to question him again, but the heart attack made it moot, and they did find assembled pipe bombs in his basement. Doesn't actually make him Z, but he was far from a patsy. This will always be one of those things like Jack the Ripper or D.B. Cooper, where you have a bunch of theories that will never be proven.

William Kerwin was an actor who starred in the 1968 movie 'playgirl killer' it's a Canadian serial killer movie, I found a viable suspect called William (Bill) Kerwin from one of the codes, he resided in Canada but he passed away in 2016. He's on Facebook and has a picture of himself on a ship, with a leopard, he is big built with a brunette buzz cut and classes he looks uncannily like the famous drawn efit picture, he has the nautical watch he was a canadian coast guard who served in northern california for a time in the late 60s and early 70s and played bagpipes, there are bagpipe notes in the codes. He lived near the St Johns River where a number of unsolved murders also took place between the late 70s through to the early nineties

I’m from the future, the killer is Gary Francis Poste who died in 2018, and who was a retired veteran and house painter. He would be linked to the zodiac case in October of 2021.

@@1Santosssss His birth-name fully spelled out is 18 letters. If you use the short versions of his first two names and anglicise his surname, you get 13 letters. The case has finally been cracked. In his letters he ensured he used alternative characters, that he hadn't already used in the body of the text, for the final characters. So that the code of the body of the letter did not automatically crack the "signature". I'm sure the police assumed it was his name, and at least looked into it. But sadly it appears that they made an understandable mistake. In hindsight I think he actually wanted to be caught or at least be chased, as he probably thought they were eventually going to go through the phone book and find the birth-names of all individuals listed that matched 18 characters and create a shortlist then go door to door or do visual surveillance to find which individual listed matched the killer's profile. Instead they (understandably because that's how detectives are trained) went the usual route of focusing on the crime scene evidence, following up any direct leads and canvassing for witnesses, while continuing to attempt to crack the "mysterious" final letters. You'd think it would have been easy to figure out in hindsight, but ultimately in over 50 years they just simply didn't ever think to do something so dang simple that in hindsight would have possibly exposed him much earlier when he was alive. Go to the phonebook, directory or any company providing a utility service, maybe even the local public library, and create a shortlist of people whose full birth names were 18 characters long.

Arthur Leigh Allen is in the Limelight again. He was positively identified my waitress who talked to him and Valentine Sally for over an hour and a half as they were the only ones in the restaurant she drew a sketch of the perpetrator that looks exactly like Arthur Leigh Allen and when she was shown a lineup with Arthur Leigh Allen 40 years later she said that's the man I'm 100% sure I mean I got a good look at them I thought the girl was a runaway. She died later that day and they are pretty sure the man she was with killed her and according to the waitress that was Arthur Leigh Allen.

@Aidan Fernandez Gareth Francis Poste. His full name is 18 characters. The fully shorted version of his name(Gary Frank Post) is 13 characters. They cracked the mysterious final cypher characters in both those two communications where he apparently named himself in coded letters. In addition to the significant amount of other evidence they found and publically presented, that is most definitely enough evidence for a jury to have convicted him in the 1960s, although today we need the DNA evidence confirmation too. Most people are expecting that's going to "confirm" it by modern investigation standards, but it's already enough evidence for them to have put him in the chair in the 60s.

I noticed a few more interesting facts: the official death toll and the killer's behavior of sending victims souvenirs suggests that the zodiac killer may have imitated Jack the ripper... I still think Richard Marshal is the best suspect.
