Tip 1, don't get any fish that have frayed fins, it could be a fungus, bacteria, or parasite.

Perfect. I've bought a 32.5 Gal nano. This is perfect timing as I had a list with 30+ items still to get. You've helped me decide needs over wants. Thanx Man!

Personally, I think the number one must have item should be test kits. Super important to test your water to make sure your parameters are in check, especially in a nano where parameters swing even bigger than larger systems. Good video 👍🏻

I like Coralife Marine Salt 50 gallon bags because they are super cheap...I get them for about $20 CAN delivered. And with my 1G pico, it lasts forever! I do 50% water change every week at minimum. Also...that digital thermometer is very unreliable...I have one that is now over 10 degrees out and barely 6 months old...will tell me 66 degrees when my tank is actually at 79ish degrees. I've been buying 1G distilled water jugs from the grocery store, and having success so far with that too...with my small tank, it's convenient, and seems to work. No algae breakouts, and my inverts and corals are doing great! I don't dose, I only feed phyto (for my feather duster). Also...my pico is stuffed with two tube style heaters, a 25w and a 50w, two tiny 5V submersible pumps, and a traditional mercury thermometer...all IN the tank with no overflow, sump, HOB or anything, with two tonga style fake "live" rock, rock rubble, and a DSB.

Love these top 10 vids. Got all my smaller fish for my dt through qt and I need to upgrade the size to a 20 long for the last few fish going in. Gonna turn the 10 gallon into a nano reef.

Do you just have to take the lid off to use the AI prime? I want I already have an AI prime light, I want to use this kit, but Id also like to use the AI prime and keep the lid on, but it doesnt look possible to do that.

I rent as well and have one hooked up to my bathroom sink. I just fill buckets in the bath tub. It’s soooooo much more convenient being able to make water at home. If I’m in a pinch I’ll go and buy some distilled gallons from Walmart, works just as well.
@invaderjoshua62803 жыл бұрын
Unless you have water like Flint Michigan just use tap treated with a good declorinator I suggest hikari ultimate they have been around for centuries in fish keeping. Its a bit cheaper then replacing RODI cartridges, and people did this for decades before RODI was a thing. Also algae is good for your fish so dont be afraid of algae blooms just build up your tanks fish algae eaters, and add more bio media to your sump and youll be good.

Man I like your channel, the way you make your videos a lot different than the other youtubers but I feel like the quality of videos that have come out recently is just really bad. Come on dude, these items are just not specific to a nano reef at all, most are insanely obvious or just not a necessity/must have. I feel like this is just a quick way to get a video out and promote some amazon affiliate links while at it. You just lost a subscriber.

I have over half that list. One thing I don't have that I should probably get us a heater. But water temps stay between 77 and 79

Fritz salt is my go to. In my opinion the price for the quality of salt is the best you can get.

I feel like this isn’t really specific to a nano reef. Just reefing in general.

Man aren't you into unnecessary gadgets. I was in the hobby for 20 years, took a break from it, not by choice, and just getting back into it trying to get updated. This is what I thought. 10. Salt - Of course. Brands aren't something I have ever cared about. Instant Ocean Sea Salt is the one I use. 09. Refractometer. Interesting toy but not necessary. I'll stick with the tried and true thanks. Hydrometer is the way to go. It's less prone to errors and never have to change batteries or have drift issues. 08. Thermometer. Digital is fine if you are performing data collection but if you aren't the go with a normal analogue aquarium thermometer. 07. Reverse Osmosis. Yeah, I was out of the hobby when rubbish came into play. Am thinking someone did it, recommended it, and now everyone is buffaloed to use it. Don't get me wrong. If you have allot of trash in your water then this is a good idea. Else, its more money spend than what is necessary but you should know about your water. For me, I will start off the majority with tap after I sort that out chemically and then use filtered rain water for necessary replacement as required. Yeah, I only do water changes in the first 2-3 months until it really running and as required if it spikes out of limits. Then off it goes to a remote sump where it is processed without allot expensive corals, fish and what not. I can't remember the plant but it consumes it. But you will have to add chemicals to get it back to a levels where it should be. 06. TDS Meter. Another gadget it seems. Yeah, pass. Again, some gadget that was recommended and forced down everyone's through it seems. 05. Graduated Measuring Cylinder. Is a good idea. 04. Flipper FlipKick. Not necessary, pass. 03. Fluval Sea Evo Saltwater Fish Tank Aquarium Kit. hygger Saltwater Tank Titanium Tube Submersible Pinpoint Aquarium Heater with Digital Thermostat is the one I would use or some equal in nature. Yes, its a bit pricey but keeping the tank stable is the main stay of this hobby. Smart Security System. Well, you would put it on a large tank and as long as you plan to data mine it for trends then that's a good idea not for a nano tank. That's any insane idea. 02. AI Prime LED. It's a good buy. 01. The tank. Yes, that tends to helps quite a bit. But you can use other tanks like waterbox, etc. Doesn't have to be this brand but it's the next tank am building. Small 10, waterbox and maybe the remote sump at 40L so I can reuse the water instead of dumping it. Don't worry mate. Am just old in this hobby and I stick with the tried and true. I will not be back again. Or at least not purposely.
