I worked out maybe 2 months at a time, then I would take about a year off. So I never got out of the "Newbie" Stage. Thanks to mind pump I've been consistent for 5 months and have already lost 35lb. Changing my workouts around and tracking my lifting progress has kept me motivated and pushing more weight than I thought possible for me. Thank you guys.

Anyone that thinks you guys are for beginners is ridiculous. I am 44 years old. I started training at 17 in high school. I have not been consistent through out that time. I think I have been consistent the most was three years in row. Then I was one and off, injuries, kids, divorce (lol), career changes, etc. I started again 2018, 2019, then 2020 and bought a house then, fix the 🏠, late 2020 got married again, 2021 had another baby, Started back in September 2021 till now. Thanks you guys for everything you do, with what you guys have been saying has helped me lose 130lbs in the year and a half. So far ive done maps anabolic which I loved and maps performance which had tremendous help with some lower back pain from years of shitty form on deadlift. You've also really helped me understand how to help other people get into fitness or just become a little more fit by talking about how not everybody is gonna love training as much as me and just getting people to do a little bit more than they do now and no crash diet or do tons of cardio has helped a ton of my friends start lifting/eating better. thank you guys again for putting so much great free no bullshit content out there.

I highly doubt anyone's going to read this, but I gave my thoughts on the techniques our MP dudes offered and suggested five of my own after. I'm hoping at least one person reads my thoughts on the matter and can apply it to their training to make their life better! Supersets - this is my favorite on the list, particularly antagonistic supersets. This is the main crux of my workouts. I'll typically work full body, but oftentimes I'll emphasize back and chest or biceps and triceps or shoulders and legs (technically not antagonistic, but close enough!). The feeling of strength granted by this is the best I've found and it seems to offer the greatest balance. Albeit, I do normally rest between sets, so I don't know if this counts as a superset. Training to failure - this is the trickiest on the list. It's hard for many people, including myself to not train to failure. I love the challenge and the exertion and the feeling of exhaustion FEELS like progress. I don't always train to failure, but these workouts are my favorite. Partial reps - I'm not a fan of this. Too bodybuilder for me. There's an exception, though, that I'll adress later. Rest/pause - I'll do this sometimes, especially for the isometric squeeze when pausing. And resting just helps to reset. I don't usually perform long rest periods during a workout, but sometimes throughout the day, sort of like trigger sessions. Intraset stretching - I don't think I've done this before. Maybe once or twice. Maybe I'll do it again sometime. Drop sets - I used to do this all the time. Every once in a while I will, but it's pretty rare nowadays. Same with mechanical dropsets, which should have made this list. Super slow motion - Occasionally I'll intersperse this into a workout. I was having some of my students/clients do this with push-ups recently. I don't think they're super valuable, but okay from time to time. Isometric holds - I used to do this a lot and a lot of people totally advocate this. I'll do it in the form of 3-10 second holds on certain exercises from time to time. 10 x 10 - I'm not interested in hypertrophy, but there is value in this for skill acquisition. Still, I don't really like performing a single exercise in a workout, so I'm more likely to break this up into two exercises like a bench press and a row. Forced reps - I've never liked forced reps. I never really saw much value in them. Here are a few more that I would have DEFINITELY put onto the list. 1. Plymetrics - you guys warn people about these (that's why they're more advanced), but explosive movements can be exactly what many people are missing in their routine and can be really fun and challenging. 2. Eccentrics - I was really surprised you didn't talk about the power of this technique. The set up can be tedious (and risky depending on the exercise), but the empowering effect this can have on your CNS is great. I think eccentric training is highly overlooked, by myself, too. 3. Outside training - working out outside (I mean, it is "working OUT") can also provide a lot of benefits a lot of people are probably failing to experience. In the sun, in the rain, in the cold, in the heat, in the dirt, in the water; exerting yourself in various conditions can have some great benefits to your body AND your mind. 4. 1.5 reps - here's where I DO like partial reps. I'll do this for a variety of exercises, but I'll use a pull-up as an example. I'll typically perform 5 full-range pull-ups, followed by 1 and then the bottom half (for 5 reps). Then I'll pull myself to the top, lower myself halfway, and then return to the top before lowering myself all the way back down (again, for 5 reps). Then 5 more full range-of-motion. This can be a bit advanced, but it gives you a great pump, is great for endurance AND good for strength, too. I theorize it can be really good to overcome plateaus, too. 5. Changing things up - I know you guys talk about phasing, but sometimes changing your rep ranges and slightly modifying exercise selection isn't quite enough. Sometimes the best thing to do is completely shift modalities. Try martial arts training techniques. Train for an OCR or marathon. Do calisthenics for a month. Try crossfit (carefully). Do a couple weeks of HIIT. I could go on and on. There are so many possible techniques to reaching the next level. Unfortunately, there are a lot of appealing gimmicks that really don't provide anything, too. Go out, experiment, learn, and have fun. That's the best way to do it. :)

I’m one of those guys who has it dialed relative to the layman but certainly not relative to what’s required for peak results (sleep, recovery, nutrition) etc. We need to be real about how consistent and advanced we are in the present day! Since I've been doing power cleans in the last few years, I've been thinking that its a movement everyone should learn. I would say that doing cleans at some point in almost all of my workouts has contributed to getting me jacked. But I never see anyone doing it, except for the guy in the mirror. If someone would ask me how I developed my traps, the first credit would go to power cleans. On the partial reps...I used a power rack to get comfortable in the front rack position. I put the pins just below shoulder height and front rack 315 and do partial reps against the rack pins. Doing that for a few months got me to finally front squat 225 for a few reps. And it wasn't about my legs...it was about getting comfortable in the front rack position.

Love these, super setting for Bis and Tris is a favorite to stack. I'm also one to train to failure (technique) for every movement. Partial rep strategy is one I've never considered before but can definitely throw in towards the end, perhaps one partial rep in order to not over do it. Rest pause reps are also new to me and will have to play with it a bit Dropset is something I don’t use at all, neither the 10x10s. They sound awful and perhaps use on a rare occasion.

I hesitate to post because I don't want it come off like I'm pandering to win a program. BUT this was one of those classic Sal/Adam/Justin episodes that I KNOW I can come back to again and again. I had a question about Drop Sets and 10x10s just this week and the timing couldn't have been better. Totally agree that 10x10s are GVT and Adam's point about how easy it is to overestimate how much you can achieve. From my understanding, a lot of these techniques shouldn't be used regularly right? Most of these advanced techniques tend to wear you out like crazy and fries your CNS. But I was always the better for it afterwards. I was actually ridiculed by a trainer at XSport Fitness for doing 10x10. Granted, I was (am) a much smaller guy than the trainer, but I really wondered about the best ways to keep progressing afterwards. On top of it, a lot of these are very similar. I've been doing cluster sets on my best days, but only for things that I am really bad at. Dunno if anyone reads this, but it would be great if someone could chime in about how to include these techniques between your normal workout. I'm on MAPS anabolic Phase 1.
@NaqshbandiNaqeebi2 жыл бұрын
Speaking of supersets I was doing 13 exercises back to back ,with 30s rest and repeating this 7 times as a warm up for chest workouts, so it was push-ups into incline press three ways into under arm flies, then flies above my head into a press then same again in the center of the chest then same again lower down then finally bent over glued into presses, each exercise was 10 reps, so complete sets were 910 reps, oh also after each set I would pose for 10s for maximum blood to the chest

I was training with a mate in his shed when I first got serious about weight training years ago and he came across this routine called demon training haha. It consisted of a body part split where you go to failure and then do 8 assisted reps then drop the weight I think it was 10% the do the same again for 4 sets. We did that for a month. Got great results initially but it was not sustainable at all. We had a couple days off after and then I never went back hahah. It took years to get back into resistance training

Quick question...I have incorporated a full body workout 2-3 days a week, but I am spending about an hour and a half or more per workout. I don't think I am taking too long between sets, but my wife doesn't appreciate me leaving her with the 4 kids during school nights for so long. Any recommendations. Workout is 3-4 sets of each: 1-barbell squats (back or hex bar) 2-bench press 3- deadlifts 4- pullups or rows 5- barbell overhead presses 6- bicep curls 7- dips (or french press) 8- leg raises or sit ups Any idea would be appreciated 👍
