I will admit that as I have gotten older (50+) I avoid books that seem to center on the traumatic. So I appreciate your list as a kind of warning.

Just read Tiger tiger and came in search for reviews... it is really traumatizing, such mixed feelings about regretting reading it and the book being so well written. But it is just so much to process, i really cant. This book just broke my soul. Margaux was so brave and resilient for writing this memoir.

I keep putting off the Bryan Greenwood book because I want to and then really don’t want to read it if that makes sense. Excellent list, adding many to my list.

All the ugly and wonderful things definitely sounds like it deserves to be on the list. The kindly ones!!!!!! Oh my gosh. I read it years ago and there is a scene that has never left me. Still disturbing and traumatizing to this day. Interesting read but man 😢

Books about acts of violence that could happen/will happen/happen daily hit different. They change you in ways that fiction can’t.

I loved Tender is the Flesh. It blew my mind. Then right after it I read Meat. There is one sentence about 1/4 of the way in that just changes everything. They are both so well written that they draw you in and won't let go until the end. Both 5⭐ Swank

Also you seem to be a lover of Memoirs so here's a recommendation DARKNESS VISIBLE by William Styron. 🙌🏾 Barakha 🌾✊🏾 Salema 🙏🏾💯

CriminOlly sent me. You're right Tender Is the Flesh and The Wasp Factory are kind of a joke. To this list I would add Shackled by Ray Garton and The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum. They are what I call "jumping into the literary meatgrinder"

Are you trying to give us nightmares, Ann? I have visited the site of Auschwitz, it is a very sad place and they still gloss over what happened to the Sinto and Roma peoples exterminated there.
