Whenever something incredibly ancient and incredibly cool turns up, there’s always someone on hand to shout that it’s evidence of aliens. Awesome as it would be to know ET was hanging out here in 10,000 B.C. (or whenever), the truth is both much simpler and much more interesting. See, you don’t need aliens to explain away intricate ancient objects. We humans have been capable of creating incredible stuff since before there were even humans.

"Stop and think about all the things we take for granted." There was a time when humans did not have projectiles, yet he takes for granted that they would hunt the same animals. Don't suppose they would try what they could get? Then after thinking and experimentation they would get a weapon for tougher faster animals?Of course, humans always hunted mastodons. They never ate eggs, adult birds, fish or anything small.

Unfortunately anything made organically has life a span. We are discovering objects at the end if their life span. Imagine leaving a chicken bone outside and how long it would last before disintegrating. We are finding incredibly rare artifacts that where preserved in almost perfect conditions. I think the bone flute is more likely the first “walkie talkie”. As many cultures used sounds of nature as best as they could replicate them to communicate while hunting, whistling was also used. But an item such as the bone flute would allow much higher pitched “whistle” thus allowing them to communicate from greater distances for activities such as organizing an attack on hearing animals while hunting. So it’s more likely the first phone than the first flute.

I don't think he's interested in actually learning or educating people in history, he's interested in clicks. (this is a clickbait channel) I doubt penises and breasts were sexualized back then, as nakedness was very normal (clothes was something very time consuming to make and therefore only used to combat the weather). Which means the items were probably not dildo's and the lady was not erotica. Actually, experts have labeled them as fertility symbols forever.

@Solon Acousilaos There was a succession of civilisations in that region going back along time. You find much the same idea in many parts of the world, with new settlements being built upon old ones. Whether there was a settlement there before Machu Picchu makes no odds to the age of Machu Picchu. That city was built when it was built.

Well, there's: Radiocarbon dating - for dating organic materials Dendrochronology - for dating trees, and objects made from wood, but also very important for calibrating radiocarbon dates Thermoluminescence dating - for dating inorganic material including ceramics Optically stimulated luminescence or optical dating for archaeological applications Potassium-argon dating - for dating fossilized hominid remains Archaeomagnetic dating - Clay lined fire hearths take on a magnetic moment pointing to the North Pole each time they are fired and then cool. The position of the North Pole for the last time the fire hearth was used can be determined and compared to charts of known locations and dates Lead Corrosion Dating. Amino acid dating Obsidian hydration dating - a geochemical method of determining age in either absolute or relative terms of an artifact made of obsidian Rehydroxylation dating - for dating ceramic materials.

Number one looks like arrow shaft straighteners - what else is the tiny hole for? It could likely double as a "bopper" for knapping, really pre-shaping, the stone tips too - ultimately, a useful fletcher's multi-tool. It would also explain the engraving - looks like an ungulate - likely the most common game for primitive bow hunters(rodents are too small - easy to miss and lose/break an arrow on).

Well, maybe. That's the old definition, going back to before Linnaeus; but that's not the only definition of species, these days. For neanderthals in particular the notion of speciation is not particularly helpful, cf. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species_problem - especially given that speciation can be allopatric, parapatric, peripatric, or sympatric. The confirmed sexual encounters between neanderthal and modern humans could have parapatric, ie. suffered from the opposite of hybrid vigour.

Art major here. Prehistoric Venus Figurines were not erotica. They represent a Fertility Goddess and served a religious purpose. Some recent studies even suggest these were probably made by female artists, so you could say it's actually more in the lines of a self portrait than some horny dude's porn.
@MartAnimE
@MartAnimE 7 жыл бұрын
No problem. ^^ I remember studying this particular subject in history of art classes, and some of my teachers were quite vocal about how misinterpreted and miscredited prehistoric art often was for decades (and still is, apparently). Back when prehistoric art started being studied by scientists and scholars it was assessed under a preconceived notion that all the art was obviously made by men, which reflected more the social norms of the time (art was still a field largely dominated by men) than any actual archeological or anthropological evidence. It has since been determined that many, if not most, prehistoric art was actually created by women. This has been determined by analyzing hand prints, the discovery of crafting tools buried along women, and the logical deduction that women, as nurturers and gatherers, didn't stray as far from home and often had more time and energy to dedicate to the craft, while most men were off hunting, sometimes for several days at a time. That really stuck with me because it shattered this image I had that had been portrayed again and again. It's like when we first realized that a lot of dinosaurs had feathers and most pop culture and media portrayals were hugely inaccurate! XD I just thought most people would like to know this. :)

So the idea of having sex with a woman to make her pregnant has nothing to do with a man (or the woman) feeling erotic? Cut this simplistic notion that it is either erotic or religious. Fertility rites, presuming they existed, would have been both.
