Is there really such a thing as super IM? I thought the term “super” only applies to the grandmaster title as there is no further rating boundary as to differentiate the gap in level amogst the top players.

I’ve been watching these Titled Tuesday’s for a long time, and it’s really cool to see how John has changed and improved as a player over the years. In my mind, an IM is so good in comparison to me that it may as well be the best there is, but John’s out here showing how much better one can get! I was watching live, and that was the MOST amazing experience on this channel. When the score was 7/10, and we needed one more win to get 8/11, I could barely breathe. Then, it's almost like an out of body experience seeing John creating a past pawn that won him the game despite IMMENSE time pressure. I felt my primal instinct took over and (no joke) started howling at the skies. Happy Birthday John.

That memory is why they are pro chess players.

@@DaviniaHill I would say it is usually the opposite. Chess improves your memory, therefore the more you practice the stronger it gets, and John here has practiced quite a lot. Moreover, we only see the moment that he recalls the match. What we don't see is how many times in the last 5 years he has analyzed or reviewed that match, both of which are a very important part of getting to John's level.

At 38:00 I think White could actually take on f7 because after Kxf7 Rxe6 Qxe6 he has Ne5+ winning the queen. However, maybe then Black has Qb5 instead of Qxe6 remaining just up a piece and after Rb6+ he has Qd5 or after Re5+ he has Qc4 when the e5 square is blocked by the rook, thus not allowing Ne5+ royal fork...
