4:17 Can confirm, Sand Hollow is AMAZING! There's a fun little cliff jumping area there as well. But be warned - if you swim in the shallow sandy areas you will likely get swimmer's itch, and it is beyond miserable. Stick to the rocky shores where it gets deep quickly and you'll be just fine.

Sorry friend, you’re mistaken. Lake bonneville was no where near goblin valley. The white cap is a different rock layer. I forget the names of the layers up there, but the white cap is a pretty hard layer and the red underneath is softer. That’s why you get the crazy formations.

Around 1979, my wife and I drove to Goblin Valley. We were the only ones there, which gave it even more of a feeling of solitude. But as the sun went down, and the Goblin shadows got longer and longer, creeping and reaching towards us, we began to feel uneasy. It was freaking spooky. We got a little scared in the empty and darkening landscape, and left with goosebumbs on our entire body just as dusk was ending. No idea why we felt that way, we're not at all superstitious. It was just a very spooky feeling as night began to fall.

Kevin Eassa, at around 4:15, you were in the area I'm familiar with--the hoodoos, i.e., Goblin Valley State Park. That's where the rock monster sequence was filmed in the silly movie Galaxy Quest. For those who don't know, it's SW of Green River, on the hwy. which leads to the gravel road of 40+ miles to get to Canyonlands' Maze District. BAHN-ville (Bonneville) Salt Flats is actually BAHN-uh-ville. I know because I've heard about it for decades as being an outstanding place to set land speed records. I agree that Dead Horse (Point State Park) is beautiful. I was there back in the early '90s. I also agree with Monument Valley. It's on the Navajo Reservation, and has been on tons of old Western movies, including some of the old John Wayne ones directed by John Ford. Another spectacular place there on the Res. is near the NM line--Canyon de Chelly (d'SHAY), just beyond Chinle (chin-LEE).

Kevin. Thanks for the tips. I'll be coming over into south central Utah from Great Basin National Park to Goblin Valley. Have you ever visited Valley of the Gods? It's 166 miles south of Goblin Valley. Just as majestic as Monument Valley (only 30-40 miles south), on BLM land and rarely visited. Will research Badlands as I do a lot of photography as well as with drones. Thanks, Semper Fly Dave.

Thanks so much! So they’re ever changing. This footage is complied of 4-5 years of trips to Utah. Some places are now illegal and some places you need a permit, all BLM land you should be good but I would just individually research spots/ regions prior

It's marine, left over from the old Jurassic interior seaway. The top is the Curtis formation divided by the J3 unconformity and the Entrada sandstone on the bottom. Nothing was left by a lakebed.

You're correct about Dead Horse Point State Park. While Canyonlands NP and Arches NP get all of the traffic, you're wise to take that left turn off Highway 313 before you get to Canyonlands. The views are spectacular and you're roughly 2,000 feet above the Colorado River. The last time we visited, there were maybe 10 people there with us. And, when you leave, take a right-hand turn onto the sandy road that leads east. If you have a high-clearance vehicle, you can travel thru Pucker Pass down into Long Canyon. It's about seven miles long and affords one a close-up view of the internals of a canyon complete with a 600 ft drop-off and switchbacks. It's also a nice shortcut back to Moab and takes you right along the Colorado River. Thanks for posting this video. While I already had Escalante National Monument (Burr Trail, Coyote Gulch, and the slot canyons) planned for this summer, I've now added Goblin Valley State Park. It looks fantastic.

Fun fact, I grew up here in southern Utah, quail creek(we call it lake) and sand hollow are literally less than 10 minutes from where I live. Both are man made reservoirs, both made to what they are now in the last 35 years. We used to go out to the dunes to party before sand hollow became a lake, broke my heart. You should have gone to red cliffs, gorgeous place.

I hope all these places don’t get overcrowded like Zion or arches and hope you can make more videos like that for each states. Thanks
