That goal was absolutely nuts. Best goal I've ever seen happen in a game I was watching. Dude just decided to win the game, and went coast to coast to take the lead and score the hat trick. Couldn't believe the Blues won the game after that.

@@TomAllnatt True, but IMO they lose the series to the Blues if he doesn't get that hat-trick. The Avs were regressing to their lazy hockey ways and needed something special from their leaders. I'm a big MacKinnon fan, but there was some merit to the claim that he failed to deliver in big playoff moments. Was, anyway, prior to these playoffs! He was a man on a mission that night and, though he couldn't get it done alone, he proved to the team that he was giving absolutely everything he had for the Cup. Makar is a monster in his own right, but MacKinnon is the Avs MVP for this year's playoff run in my book.

A lot of people are saying its too bad MacKinnon's goal didn't lead to a victory against the Blues that night. That perspective misses the forest for the trees. The past two second-round playoff exits were not due to a lack of skill, but to a lack of effort. Lazy hockey led to blown opportunities, and the Avs were on the brink again against the Blues. MacKinnon's hat-trick didn't result in an instant W, but his demand for the puck (first goal), raw determination (second goal), and sheer speed and skill (third and most brilliant goal, and the subject here) proved to his team beyond all doubt that he would leave everything he had on the ice for the Cup. IMO that goal changed the tide from another second-round exit to a Stanley Cup Championship. He became the leader the Avs desperately needed. Makar is a beast in his own right, his production is insane and his defense is top tier, but MacKinnon is the real 2021-2022 playoffs MVP in my book.

i agree. I a huge makar fan, but the Conn Smythe should've gone to MacKinnon. Cale may have had a historic playoffs by defenseman standards, but Nate was the heart & soul of the team with the goal total & the highlight reel replays to prove it. MacK may never get a Hart or a Conn Smythe, but at least he's finally got his cup :)

As an Avalanche fan (Westminster, CO) I always knew that the comparison between Connor and Nate was nil and void due to the fact that Nate took his game to such another level in the playoffs that, in my opinion, made him the best in the league because of that. After watching this playoff year, I honestly enjoyed watching Connor finally "get it" and absolutely explode, understanding the next level you have to take it to for playoff success!! Now l was glad to see my boys win the cup and sweep Edmonton in the process, but the fact that we now know that Connor has taken his playoff performance to that level, the West is going to be so thrilling to watch for years to come!! Nobody can now say that Connor does not show up in the playoffs because, um, DAMN did he ever!!! Mc vs MacK is what this league needs!! As an American I also have to say that Matthews has to figure that out for himself to make that next leap. Now, I heard about this Cale guy...

There were so many outstanding performances from COL that it got lost in the shuffle, but MacKinnon was sensational these playoffs. Even when he didn't put up goals he was driving play and wearing down the other teams top defenseman. He's the only other one I could've seen winning the Conn Smythe, but Makar absolutely deserved it.

I loved the finals not only bc I’m a lifelong Avs die hard but bc the lightning got exposed as the sore losers they are. From game 4 on all they did was cry after literally every single Avs goal. It was so beautiful to see them show their true colors for the 1st time, when they suddenly faced a team just as good if not better than them. Probably would’ve forced a 7th if they had paid more attention to the game than crying but that’s just my opinion. For example on goal #10 if pe bellemere (former av) back checks instead of bitching about how he hooked himself with mansons stick he probably prevents that goal. Unfortunately he was too worried about the refs and the Avs went the other way and scored the cup clinching goal. Just 1 example but there was more in that game 6 that I can’t think of off hand.

But I am not a bolts or avs fan so I don't need to put my blinders on for any play. Watched the play five times in slow motion and I think you are out to lunch if you think that he held the stick. Even if you think he was holding the stick, the Avs player was for sure in the process of hooking(his stick is in his mid section) and there is zero way any NHL ref would be able to decipher a call like that at that speed... to completely ignore the play shows the complete joke that the NHL reffing has become.
