Also Cilan. Maybe even Clemont. For the sole purposes of traveling with our protagonists. But now real talk... Both Brycen and Elesa had really colorful personalities (as did their aces, Beartic and Zebstrika). Volkner went from refusing to accept a challenge from Ash because most challengers were weak to becoming totally exhilarated by the battle between Luxray and Infernape. Also Infernape mastered Blaze so there's that. Fantina and the counter shields (and she made a lot of appearances). I might put Norman over Flannery in this case too. Clair, Surge, Brock, and Misty I definitely agree with though.

Sabrina, Morty, Giovanni, Surge, and Clair I can understand. Fantina doubled as a Gym Leader and a Coordinator. She should have been on the list. Clemont was a main character, like Brock and Misty, who demonstrated growth. He should have been on the list. Korrina and Maylene both had entire arcs devoted to them, which is more than most Gym Leaders get. They should be on the list.

To be fair, these Gym leaders were incredible personalities and most of them had more than one episode fleshing out their characters. Flannery & Skyla inheriting their Gyms from their grandfathers may not be relevant to the story but it's cool, they're both interesting characters and they're both SMOKING HOT 😍😘😜 so people love them. I can see the argument for other newer Gym Leaders, so maybe they should just create a SECOND Top 10.

The simple fact that every Kanto gym leader were there despite the fact that the battles sucked back in the anime's first seasons show how the new gym leaders have no personnality. But, I would have replaced Flannery with Pryce. Seriously, her personnality wasn't bad, but Pryce had much more background with his story of being a great champion in his youth and losing his Pokemon in the process. AND Ash did not defeat him, he was losing until Pryce decided to give up, aknowledging Ash's abilities anyway. I liked him, he was original and also a great opponent. I would have also replaced Skyla with Maylene. Her character was more interesting, she litteraly lost faith in herself after a crushing loss against Paul, but battling against Ash gave her more confidence and she learned to trust her Pokemon. That was more interesting and it required nothing of Cilan's annoying speeches. Gosh, I can't stand that guy! No honorable mention for him, he's lame! But, I totally agree with Sabrina being in the first place. It was so original to have her being completely evil and it represented well the fact that psychic Pokemon were overpowered in the first generation. I completely hate the lack of personnality from the newer gym leaders. They are all the same, they speak the same way, they battle the same way, they think and act the same exact way with no differences except the type they favor. But Sabrina is so different, she's evil and scary, and has a touching story behind all this. This comment can also apply to cool gym leaders like Blaine and Giovanni, their battles were far from fantastic... well Blaine's gym battle was indeed fantastic, but it had no logic (Pikachu one-shot killing a Rhydon with a thunderbolt? WHAT?!). Those battles, back in the day were so short and made no sense at all, but they had so much personnality behind the scenes that you could only like them.

I’m so glad they put Sabrina as number 1, not only does she, in my opinion, look the best out of all the gym leaders, but the Pikachu vs Kadabra fight will always be one of the most memorable fights. The simple fact that she used telekinesis to force Abra into evolution unlike the traditional countless battles and training to evolve was pure badassery just by itself.

Viola and Grant helped Ash understand the Battle Chateau, Korrina traveled with the gang for multiple episodes, Clemont is obviously a main character and his battle with Ash was heavily built up, Valerie gave Serena her first Performance outfit and helped inspire her first outing, and Olympia gave heavy, heavy foreshadowing to the XY&Z arc and her reveal of Greninja's past likely greatly helped Ash-Greninja become a thing.

These people probably knew nothing about Pokemon past the 2nd generation, hence the bad list. And they said it's based on importance of story.... then why is Flannery and Skyla there? Better NEWER options: -liza & tate, first and only double battle/2 gym leaders -Valerie, first fairy type gym -Iris,clemont, or Cilan, actually part of anime storyline -Roxie, beat 5 out of 6 of Ash's pokemon with only 3 of her pokemon.

Liza and Tate were annoying. Valerie should be on the list. Iris, Clemont and Cilan ARE important to the story, but are terribly annoying and awful gym leaders. (Iris isn't even a gym leader.) Roxie should be on the list.

Not in this list, or maybe because she's a "Frontier Brain", but I think "Salon Maiden Anabel" should count as well. Ash lost his first battle with her, but they created a strong bond and Anabel helped him, plus she had a crush with Ash. (Just like "Pike Queen Lucy" had a crush with Brock.) P.S. Such a shame that Dawn, May or Misty never got their bikes back.
