People on the internet these days tend to think just because you don't line up with their view of what you should express, you're about to blow a gasket, which would be hilarious if it weren't so sad.

The Matrix for me was groundbreaking story-wise. Saw it as a senior in H.S. at the theaters. But hasn’t aged well in all areas. Pretty much agree with your entire list…except for the Big Lebowski. I put certain movies into my “sleepy movie” category. These are movies that I’ve seen a million times, have likable characters, the themes never get too crazy, and has a sound mix that is very easy on the ears. Basically movies that I can put on and fall asleep to. I put The Shining in the same category. Even though it’s a classic horror with some genuinely terrifying scenes, something about the sound mix and the setting of the Overlook puts me at ease. Maybe I’m some kind of psychopath. Anyways, great video as always!

Those who cannot accept that what they love may not be so special for another guy, won't say "OK, I get that, point taken." And those who do understand that a movie's value and entertainment value varies viewer by viewer, already get that without James having to point it out - let alone so many times and at such length it takes about half of this video.

Everything else about it was incredibly dull and generic. It was little more than a long tech demo that showcased how far VFX have come. It lived and died by hype. Visuals aren't enough for a movie to be placed among the greatest movies *of all time*, when the technologies used to make them become obsolete so quickly

Of course people found things better as time went along...but those movies mostly have duplicates. Other movies that incorporates the same ideas within the same time. Matrix came with a plot and visuals that were great and no one else did it that way. Like...the ps1 is considered the greatest console of all time...even though ps2, 3 and Xbox 360 and one does what it did and better. That doesn't take away from the fact that in its time it was innovative, creative, unique. All that earned it it's title. And people..like me who honestly thought we could never get anything better than the quality that ps1 games got....i don't even play those games much anymore. I play them...but I can admit that we have better quality now. That I may play them in passing and from nostalgia...but...i .ca enjoy it for...the time it was created. A time when it was the greatest. There are boxers who could beat Ali today. And there are dancers who can outdance Michael Jackson and basketball players who can probably break down Jordan, but we still call those people the greatest. That's because in their time...they were. And they brought something then that no one saw before. A quality that was innovative, new, or unique. And everything afterwards seems to be built upon their ideas. And so...maybe if it weren't for them...we wouldn't have the quality of games, movies, fighters, players, etc...today. You need to understand what makes something the greatest of all time. It's found in the concept.

I kinda agree with you on all of these, even the ones I like more like Donnie Darko and Pulp Fiction i still totally get why you feel the way you do I draw the line at the big Lebowski tho, I absolutely respect that it wasn't for you but the movie is infinitely rewatchable imo, so many great scenes and lines, it's an entire mood in itself, I really love it, maybe it's just for a certain kind of person

As a fan of A Christmas Story, and yes, I'll even say it's one of my favorite Christmas films ever, I do agree with your assessment. There's just no way - NO WAY - I can possibly put it over It's a Wonderful Life, which is on the (very) shortlist of films that have actually made me tear up.

Titanic and Matrix, you kinda had to be there, and be captured up in the hype. Both of these blew my mind as a young teenager. It's the same as showing a 1970s Scifi(Starwars) to my 2012 kid, won't impress him.

Agree with almost everything in this video. I think the influence a lot of these movies (Pulp Fiction, Matrix) had on their genres and cinema in general is responsible for a lot of the reputation they have. Other movies, like Big Lebowski and Christmas Story, were more about their becoming cult favorites and cultural phenomenons, than being great movies on their own. Without the culutural/social phenomenon surrounding them, a lot of them would not be considered so highly.
