Hello, I would like to mention, that one helmet can be quiet for someone but loud for someone else, it depends on the helmet fit to one's the head shape. In one study they found out that the important part of noise comes from inside of the helmet caused by turbulence of air comming from the space around neck. The noise comming from outside of the helmet is less important.

As a kind suggestion, would it be possible to use a Sportbike for some of these tests? A Sportbike has a very distinct characteristic which blasts a directed stream of air right at the top of the face shield. Sportbikes have the most wind noise of any motorcycle, because the air is actually channeled directly into your face. It appears that nobody has done any helmet tests on Sportbikes.

@brbrbrbrbrbrrb4 ай бұрын
@@pastorius you are right, if you look at mx436 and mx437 they are both cross helmets, 436 only having visor added. now if we look at pioneer 2 we might be fooled by its name thinking hey, well if mx701 is adv explorer maybe mx702 is also adv and same? but no, look for mx708 and you will see mx708 is a cross helmet identical to mx702, basically same thing they did with 437 and 436.. MX436 = MX437 with visor MX702 = MX708 with visor So you are right its probably loud as well, but if you read down, there's people complaining their LS2 Explorer is crazy loud and deafening then you also have people who tell me irl that old LS2 Stream Evo (friend of friend had it and now has Pioneer II) is louder than Pioneer II. And Stream Evo I think is around 104dB so probably around 100dB for MX702.. Hmm... I asked him if peak catches wind and he said he did max 85kmh and it did not catch wind. I wonder at 130kmh... I am getting a dual sport motorcycle Yamaha XT600 soon, I want to basically travel 90-100 kmh to local mountains on knobby tires then hit offroad then travel back. But maybe also travel on normal tires around Europe.. Need to pick helmet for this. I was thinking MX702 but I don't know honestly what to pick.. My budget is limited MX701 is expensive for me but since I was thinking to add pinlock to MX702 it would cost me around €155 for helmet and €30 pinlock so €185 total approximately.. But LS2 Explorer would cost me €250 and I get pinlock.. Question is is it worth to give €65 more for Explorer? I could spend this on insurance or alarm chain for bike or cover.. I don't know. What do you think?

Active Noise Cancellation? I asked this question Ryan from the Fortnine channel a few months ago (hoping he will do a video about it): why are there no helmets with active noise cancellation (yet)? You rarely see people buying earphones these days without that feature and so I really wonder why still (to my knowledge) not a single helmet manufacturer has installed it into their helmets? Does it really make such a big physical difference whether you wear overear headphones or a helmet?
@Championhelmets2 ай бұрын
That's a great idea. We haven't come across active noise cancelling in a helmet yet.
@kongwashere2 ай бұрын
It seems to be such an obvious idea and NC as such has become such simple,low cost and effective that I am wondering whether there are technical or legal reasons why no manufacturer has come up with a NC helmet (yet)…
@PewPewReload16 күн бұрын
I would guess the issue is that your ears are not 100% covered, the noise is directly delivered to your face (unlike other situations where the noise is ambient). Active noise cancelation in a helmet would likely have nearly zero affect on reducing the overall volume at your ear drum. (unless they find a way to build in ear pads to the helmet that can positively cover the ear).
@petebjerkelund50889 ай бұрын
The usual suspects. There are no quiet helmets, just Less Noisy Helmets. It's the territory. But. What about Alvin Halfaker's Quiet Ride Helmets? He went at this in a new way. They make quite a difference. I think the purpose involved and it's success in reducing decibels and windnoicse etc, is more important than the regular brands alignment.

Modern helmets SUCK! Back in the 70’s every helmet was made of fiberglass and they were reasonably QUIET! Nobody used to ride with earplugs. Modern Polymer and carbon fiber simply are not as quiet and Bell did a safety study showing how fiberglass delaminated on impact lessening impact to the rider. Modern polymer helmets transfer all the impact forces into the liner.. so modern helmets are louder, less safe and many times more expensive! MODERN HELMETS SUCK!
