You nailed all those pronunciations, chapeau! Squacquerone is very hard for non local Italians too. Thanks for sharing these clips about my beloved hometown.

The basilica is fantastic. Not much to look at from the outside, but inside is great. And the fact that it is close to the beach makes it even more reason to visit Ravenna.

I agree, from outside it looks kind of boring but inside is AMAZING!!! We were at the beach everyday and seeing great sites too. Ravenna really is amazing. I will definiately go back

Gotta check out Ravenna in the winter... light snow, pretty sky, boarding is cheap, and around Christmas/new year's/holiday time they have festive lights everywhere and this cool projection show on the monuments exclusive to the season

Was there a few years pre-Covid and had three full days--not enough! (But in Italy, most vacation stops are "not enough" for the amount there is to see and experience.) I spent most of my time visiting the monuments with mosaics, which were wonderful. I agree completely with the most important sites. San Vitale is the most magnificent, Mausoleum of Galla Placida most exquisite, San Apollinare Nuovo most "human," with its vignettes of biblical scenes and pictures of Ravenna at the time. I went out (by local bus) to see Sant Apollinare in Classe, which is probably my "fourth best." I would add the museum attached to the cathedral, which has some marvelous art, including a throne made of carved ivory panels! Would add that I was there in October, the rainy season, and the interiors of the churches are fairly dark, so not so easy to take great photographs. But a bonus is that many of the churches have old carved sarcophagi and other objects along the walls, which are beautiful--but never seem to get mentioned in guidebooks. Ravenna is a pleasant, low-stress city, and the people are friendly and helpful. Some good shopping too. Found a wonderful bookstore on the main shopping street where I got some beautiful books on the mosaics. Finally, it's a lovely city to walk around, with plenty of picturesque old buildings. If you like to take photos and videos, it's wonderful!

Didn't know that the Byzantium civilization stayed in western Europe long enough to make an impact on antediluvian Italian architecture. Fascinating

Cappelletti is mainly eaten in broth, otherwise we (Romagnoli) call them tortellini ( with ragù or cream)

....n. 6 in the list,the "Mercato Coperto" does not exist any longer....been closed for few years and reopened recently, but nothing to do with the original one...so you might skip it if you visit Ravenna after 2019....

What market in Ravenna do you recomend 🎂
@ictfc18972 жыл бұрын
@@deboraaparisi9999 None, cos that old central one has not been replaced in a similar way. You can still visit the building but inside it has nothing to do with the original market that was a real meeting center for people in town. It was oriented in selling food, so there were plenty of stands selling meat, cured meat, cheese, fish, fruit and vegis, and you could smell the scent of all these fresh products. As I said nothing to do with what you find now.
