What did you love or hate about your art teachers?? I loved my drawing professor from college that taught me how to draw much faster! I hated not learning a lot of foundations in high school. Share yours!

I had over my formal art education a wide variety of art teachers, I loved teachers that got to know their students and pushed them accordingly. One memorable teacher with me repeatedly smashed my work over and over again. "That's HORRIFIC" I hear you shout - Wrong that teacher knew me well. I asked them to help perfect my plaster castings so unless it was perfect it was smashed and I had to go again with a little guidance and help I'm pretty good at casting now!

I used to shy away from having art as a job, because I was always told that it would never happen, that it wasn't a good job, that I wouldn't be able to be successful. But I've always wanted to be a teacher. I didn't think of art as an option at first, but one of the main reasons I decided I wanted to be an art teacher was the freedom of curriculum. But a lot of people, especially family looked down upon that because they said I would be broke, and were constantly asking about my "back up plan." And I personally never really had a lot of great art teachers, except 2. Thanks for that, Mr. B, lol. But the thought of being able to inspire future generations of people is a large part of what attracted me to that path. I hope that I can be as good a teacher as you were to all your students! :)

Thank you so much for the video! Currently serving in the Navy, about to go to college and I was kinda confused on what I want to do. I was going to go with Creative Writing because I love making stories, but I'm not a novelist. I drew and made comics as a kid and loved art. Life hit, I stopped, and lost confidence. I had a reawakening recently. Am a father and want to show my kids to be brave enough to chase their passion. Was pondering being an art teacher, so I can make art again, teach, provide, and create the stories I want through art. This was sooooo reassuring and amazing. You're awesome. Thank you.

Thanks so much for taking my request!! Awesome video. I know I'm not alone in the fact that my art teachers were not interested in character design or animation, so your videos are definitely helping me to imagine what that looks like. (It's inspiring btw!! so happy I found your channel.) So, even though my art teachers might not have been the most knowledgeable I still want to say that you are so right that this is an important job. In my school it was kind of an unspoken thing where us students found the art room to be this kind of sanctuary where the grades weren't too harsh, and there was music playing, and we could talk quietly. I think that space was really key in building creative confidence :) Mad Respect for 10 years of teaching!! What I'm trying to say is, teachers not only give their knowledge, but create a space for a student to grow.

I've wanted to do art as a career since I was 4 or 5, but I have considered becoming an art teacher for the past 2 years There's still a long way to go but I'm confident that I will make it someday My art teacher really had a good impact on me, gave me much more confidence and freedom about my art and myself, and I really hope I can do that for other young artists who struggle with that I have 3 artists in my family who have a really stable life by just painting/drawing, 2 of them went to art school but none of them are teachers in any way, but their paintings sell for quite a lot of money I'm planning to move to another country (maybe) since here isn't the best start for artists But here are a very few art teachers and schools need a lot of them so I'm not too scared about not being able to find a job here, maybe it's a different situation in other countries but we'll see

So I'm a 33 year old artist. I recently worked for an after-school program called Young Rembrandts, a program that teaches grade school students visual art fundamentals. It was my first foray into teaching after much suggesting from family and friends. It was alot of fun, and I plan to continue with it for the next school year, but it had me thinking if I should seriously pursue being an art teacher. At 33, I feel I'm too old to pursue teaching, I'd probably be at or near my 40's if I were to get a teaching degree. But after the experience I have with Young Rembrandts, I've come to realize how much I enjoy working with kids and seeing their creativity on full display. So that said, I may have to look more into it, this was a very encouraging video

Compelling listen. I’m a photographer. That’s pretty much my only medium of practice though I certainly appreciate art in all mediums. I’ve given some thought to a masters in arts education. Seems a little more logical to me than an MFA from a job perspective, as I don’t really have interest in the adjunct hustle st the college level. Curious to hear if you think art teachers should be practitioners of more than one medium. Thanks for the video.
@TheArtMentor
@TheArtMentor 2 жыл бұрын
That’s such a great and important question! So I absolutely recommend developing proficiency in multiple art media, as when you become a teacher, you have no idea what you’ll be teaching. A mistake many students make is aspiring to be an art teacher in one medium, and then they can only get hired outside of that specialty. I myself was hired to teach general drawing and painting, then moved towards digital art, and now into ceramics along with drawing/painting. Art teachers need to wear a lot of hats, and while you don’t have to be exceptional in all, you’ll build those skills as you teach. For example, I never painted before I taught lol. Was this helpful?

Am i good enough to teach somebody, will the students actually learn something from me, will i be boring. What should my lessons plans be about, not really good at traditional painting but understand at digital painting, is that a problem. Is my degree enough to be a teacher. Can I handle a classroom. I've personally started lookin more into game illustration(and also getting a degree :D!).Ukrainian companies often work outsource for casually stylised games.I draw in semi-realism so conquering that kind of style would be comfortable for me! At first I thought about children book illustration or a commercial illustration but after some time it stopped giving me that "tickling" feeling as I realised that it's not my cup of tea...Game-dev art on the other hand was one of my desired career paths from the start, but I've looked into concept art, which is too stressful for me:')) But maybe I'll change my thinking again, who knows?As long as I'll be doing art I'll be fulfilled...

Hello sir, if you read this and have the time, I would deeply appreciate a response. I am someone who potentially looking to enter the field of art education. Let me start by saying what I like about art. I love the feeling behind the art. Not necessarily the visual itself, but WHY students/artists do what they do in their art. The deeper meaning. And I would love to help expand on these concepts and help students grasp the deeper meaning of art as an instructor. Here’s my problem: I, Myself, am not really a talented artist. I’ve never been one who regards himself as a great artist, but I still love it. I am currently in college without a major and have not taken an art course so this is something that could definitely improve, but at the current time, I don’t have much confidence in MY WORK. Here’s my question, is it possible to still be a successful art teacher without being the most naturally talented? Or am I doing a disservice to my students by not having the talent?(I definitely would not want that) any reply is appreciated! Thank you.

I’m glad you enjoyed! I’m also curious about your district though. Why are they so rigid about precisely what you have to teach in your art classes?
