AI "art" is the death of culture. No authentic books will come out anymore.

What about websites such as behance or drrrible for illustration works? I saw many graphic designer use them as their potfolio page to host their work, but not so much for illustrator or comic artists. Would like to know ur opinion abt them and if its any good.

As portfolio sites for hosting your work? Sure, why not. But are clients actively looking on those platforms for artists to fulfill their jobs? I don’t think so 😅 it’s not an active platform

8:46 (bit off topic) I started drawing because my mom told me she really liked my art, and i kept drawing everyday, even took art lessons. Then Disney tangled comes in and i told my mom “i wanna do that!” So, now i’m here! I’m making an original story of my own! :D i have 2 goals/dreams at the moment, to release the story and be an interactive animator who everyone can ask advice from, related to art or not :3 Okay but the speed paint?! There’s so much details! I can see from the screen that it’s fun to draw! I love it so much!!! I love the cold and warm colors :D <3

Because I'm so scatterbrained and interdisciplinary I never deal with "burnout" because I'm not working on something for more than 4 hours at a time per day. there's a real fine line between taking a break and just giving yourself an excuse to keep grinding on a long term project. all else id suggest is making a schedule and committing to it. doesnt have to be 8 hours a day, one hour a day and just stopping and going to do something else when the timer goes off is better than 8 hours on a saturday every weekend or whatever 100% on the exercise, i do that first almost every day before sitting down in front of the pc since i train like 10-12 hours a week

I think it is a bit like furtniture, making chairs, futons, desks etc. It used to be art, hand made, durable beyond belief, it was something you inherited, most people could not afford a nice chair because it was a piece of art. As machines became more prevalent more and more people could afford buying nice looking furniture, but hand made furniture still exists and is currently more expensive than ever, it is a flex to own one of a kind thing.

Honestly idk if I agree with you with the price showing stuff. The commission market over the stratosphere in terms of saturation, most clients won't bother to open the DM to ask an artist about their prices unless they REALLY REALLY REALLY like your art and are just a big fan of you, they just gonna scroll until find something that suits their needs and budget.

I understand the hesitation on doing something different, but what if I told you that those doing this are making double, triple, or more than you are by openly posting your pricing? For example, how many clients do you typically work with every month and in what price range?

@@TheArtMentor I'm in the chain base, I barely get any commissions. And at least 2 times from what I can recall when I posted my ads without price when the person asked how much I'd charge for x y or z they told me it was too much, and this is the problem because my prices were even lower than I charge now which is still just crumbs(20-50USD).

@kiara6237 so that’s good that you only have room to grow! Have you considered that you’re naturally going to get no’s? It’s a natural part of any sales process. How many times has that happened? Just that once?

@ I don't consider myself someone negative towards my work, when I offer my comms or post my ads daily I'm always positive even when I know I don't have many chances because I do believe that if we don't make ourselves easy to see in ppls feed nobody is going to notice us anyway. Hmm... it happened five times at least. I offer my commissions to clients at least twice a day splitted between discord servers, DA, facebook and reddit and it has been a while I post my ads without the prices so my memory is not that precise.

Yeah that’s not a bad thing, and if that’s all then I’d say it’s not the lack of pricing display and more consistency and longevity. Also, what commissions are you offering? Whats your style and genre?

Thank you for the video! I love drawing fantasy backgrounds, but I suppose most clients for that would be commercial? I think that private clients would mostly commission art pieces with characters on them.

Growing up in NY back in the 90's... As graffiti artists, we used competition as motivation. When it was all said and done, originality always came on top! All these A.I. images are far from original... No soul,no flavor!! It will die out in due time. Just keep working... keep mastering your craft!

A textbook I've read on learning Japanese (and an art book I'm currently learning from) explained just this: Know the difference between fact (the theory) and act (applying the theory) By only watching a tutorial, you only consumed the theory and too many tutorials are bad as you'll just fish for a "perfect" way to do it. The learning will only be effective when you apply what you learned from the tutorial. (This would be the act part)

23:00 Elaborating upon the "your ideas don't matter that much" point, AIbros put too much value on their supposed creative ideas being valuable, when in fact, and through their ultra-capitalist supply/demand lens, ideas aren't valuable because they're overly abundant, what has real value is your ability to execute them, or refine them as you further work on them, Heck, "idea guys" even bring to mind that 2010's meme of the idea guy seeking artist to draw his idea for an edgy generic shonen manga that he can't pay you for right away, but will do once it takes off.

The ways I've been able to break through any art slumps I have had is simply to draw more. I make sure that if I need a break from my usual art, I just go back to how I drew as a kid: No pressure. No expectations. No concerns. It might be just a sketch that I delete once I'm done, or it might be something that turns into a full illustration. It's been a foolproof go-to method for me.

paypal is a very scary app for me to use, but i think its the most and or only mainstream app used for money transactions, ever. aside from friends telling me that it's a horrible app that just "does its thing" most of the time, i actually got my personal account permanently limited because of a fundraiser i was hosting. Something I assume is kind of the second worst thing that could've happened to my account. I've already sent them the necessary documents, telling them that the money was just donated to me out of genuine generosity and was legitimate, as I've also asked the people who sent the money their proof of the transaction. to this day, even with calling customer support, it's still unsolved. I'm from the other side of the world and being connected from someone in the states via general phone call doesn't result in the greatest voice quality; I couldn't hear a single thing. The call ended with disappointment and even more confusion of what should I do next. Since almost every paypal QnA or FAQs usually leads to the conclusion of reaching out to customer support. i hope this can be answered! p.s. if i really want to do some "nasty artworks", are there any other platforms that are internationally friendly?
