Soup boys Yes! TOYOTA LEXUS HINO DAIHATSU SCION and.. Subaru (stakeholder of 40%) and a little bit of.. BMW (6-8% shares) Toyota just earn its name and its fame!! Thank to legendary Japanese pursuit of perfection!! In 2018 AD profit of Toyota was about 20 bln $ to only 2 bln $ of VW. Also Toyota has it own banking division not only financial services. I love Toyota Bank :)

Cars so technically the VW Group is bigger. (VW has many more Employees about 650.000 and Toyota about 370.000) But I love both Groups because on is the giant of the Asian market and the other the giant of the European Market.👍

"Richest" should be incorporating some measure of financial performance laid out against the revenues of the largest companies, while factoring in large liabilities (like the VW emissions scandal). Lexus and Toyota just don’t break as often. I have been driving for 38 years. My cars were in this order - VW, Ford, Citroen, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, AUDI, Volvo, Fiat, Subaru, Mercedes, Toyota and now only Lexus. In all my years I have never broken down driving a Toyota or a Lexus. These cars are the most reliable by a long shot. Reliability is king for me followed by resale value. Style and appearance sells for lots of people but being towed away in a stylish vehicle is appealing to nobody and I think this is why Toyota are the number one.

#1 Toyota Supra #2 Honda Civic Type R Since 1976 all the cars I've owned with complete satisfaction due to their reliability, performance, quality and real normalized value (who cares about sticker price) are Toyotas and Hondas, still coming back for more. Currently (all bought new) Supra Turbo 1989, Civic Si K20 2008, and Civic Type R 2018 FK8. Next is the 2020+ Toyota Supra with M type engine and manual transmission (unreleased yet). 43+ years of bliss, and kick ass sleepers. What else could I desire in terms of vehicle? YMMV, but for me, no need to search elsewhere...

I do not know where you have got your figures from but Daimler, Tesla and BMW should not be on that list and be replaced by PSA (Peugeot-Citroen-Opel) and also Suzuki. VAG is the top one. Nissan is owned by Renault at 43 % and should read Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi is now resached first place.

This list is a very good indication of how investment doesn't always make sense. Compare revenues to market caps and there are some strange buggers here. VW and Toyota are nearly similar in revenues, with VW having more assets yet market cap is double for Toyota. Then you have Daimler, with 185 Billion revenues and 300 Billion in assets and BMW with revenues of 110 Billion and assets of 230 Billion, however, with higher market cap.

OMG some people just don’t know business.. First, every single company borrows money, that why the stock market and investors exist. Second, Tesla is not a car company, it’s an energy company that makes cars. Third, companies valuations are not made because of their current value, but their future value. The same way that amazon, Netflix, Snapchat lose money today, but the money they lose helps them capture the audience and will generate billions in the future. One last thing, companies don’t care about today, they care about what will happen in 10 or 20 years from now.
