Another back to the basic videos, always like these the best. Bonus tip: get a swimming pool noodle and split it and put on the edge of the slide out to protect yourself if you are working around or under it.

Tried that, I think it is going to last according to the inviroment you are in. We are in Southern California and the noodles started falling apart after about 9 months to a year. I think it is easier to just walk around your slides or wear a padded hat if you have to work under them. Heck even with the noodles I was still bumping my head and it still hurt, maybe stopping me from getting a cut...

I do not RV and I am not an RVer. I believe you guys are the BEST on KZbin. I am planning a trip for my family to go on a 10-14 day RV trip across America. I love your videos because you guys speak clear and your videos are bright and colorful. Your information is on point (especially understanding the infamous black tank). Love the vids.

You guys hit it all. Great video. The basics when I picked up my new to us class A and drove it two days home 1. Power: Surge EMS with all the adaptors possible for your rig. 2. Water: hoses, spliters, pressure reg, spare nosel. 3. Level: Blocks and chocks. 4. Basic Tool Kit 5. First aid kit for humans and if needed, for the pets. 6. Extra fire extinguishers. 7. New sewer hose - never use the used one that comes with it... never. 8. Road side safety stuff - Just as you showed was perfect!

I stumbled across your channel a few days ago and have started going through them - this one is especially good advice for newbies. I pretty much developed the same list that you present after a couple of years of watching videos and spending lots of time on the road. One thing you touched on that would be an absolute must for any RV’er is: use a checklist! You NEVER get so good that you can skip the checklist. Only takes a minute or two extra when arriving or departing to check off every item (then maybe you could avoid forgetting your water splitter 😀). I laminated mine and have them with me on a lanyard when setting up or tearing down. When you’re in a hurry, it’s especially easy to overlook something. There are a lot of things that you can go cheap on when getting started, but you should absolutely go with the best (and yes, they can be expensive) TPMS, air compressor (Viair all the way), and surge protector. Keep up the great videos! Best wishes.

Another essential is a good Bluetooth speaker. For anyone looking for a good Bluetooth speaker I’d recommend the ONN medium party speaker from Walmart. They go between $70 an $80 depending on the Walmart. The sound quality is great and it gets loud enough for a noise complaint. (Please don’t blast music if your near others) the battery life is good and the speaker is decently durable. It is quite large so it’s more of a campsite speaker. For a portable option id recommend the JBL flip.

Good job John..... Yes, the TST ( Truck System Technologies) is a company dedicated to supporting the trucking industry for tire pressure monitoring systems. I believe that's all they do. And, their customer service is excellent. I have the sensors that don't require batteries, rather, they have a 3 years lifespan, just replace them when they wear out... much easier than the battery version and same price. I recommend this product as basic RV accessory number 1..…and I'm not towing anything.... just driving my 6 wheel Mercedes Benz Sprinter that is 23 feet. Yes, just get what you need, you can always add on accessories as you need them.

Hey guys, just found your channel and thoroughly enjoy it, loving the honest, down to earth approach with your videos and as a recently separated father with a 12yr old daughter who lives with me, and 30 ft trailer I didn’t use at all last year, you guys have re-lit my love to go RVing again, and once the 2 ft of snow we have here in Canada is gone, me and my daughter are hitting the road again, cause like you say life is too short. I have been taking notes and following you guys and other channels since September in preparation for eventually going on the road. I thought I had a pretty good understanding of what I need for us before we hit the road, but once again you guys have enlighten me on new things to be aware of. I already had the Hughes surge protector on my radar, but I was not aware that there is a module I could change out personally that would eliminate the need to replace the entire unit in the event of a surge. So that was very useful information. And the tip about storing a 2 x 8 board and other wood pieces of wood was also very enlightening. Once again you folks have proven to be a very valuable resource for us. Thank you very much and safe travels. God bless.😎

I always carry 2x6s, 2X4s and 2X2s. I make ramps with the boards and use the 2x2s to make log cabin stacks to put my hydraulic jacks on for stabilizers. Also use boards for chalks. Once I got the very last paved parking spot at a campground and it was extremely steep! I mean It was stupid steep! I ended up using my boards to make ramps for both sides to get the wheels at least 1 foot off the ground and when I got done my trailer coupler was sitting on the pavement to make the trailer level. Sorry if too much info.🙄 And I feel the same way about camping world! 🤬

John and Mercedes what I considered the bare essentials for rv camping is a grease gun for checking the wheel bearings and making sure they are properly lubracted and won't over heat air compressor for tires cordless impact wrench for getting tires off a torque wrench for checking and tightening lug nuts tire patch kit water pressure regulator electrical surge protector propane regulator shut offs tire patch kit a tire thumping bar to check cause sometimes a sensor can fail or the batteries can die and a tow strap

Tpms is not required for first trip. Nice, but not required. Just be diligent on checking tires. Compresser , any decent will do. No need to spend$200 on one. My $60 Kolbalt from Lowes works great. With your list, will cost nearly $2,000 in stuff for a person to go on first weekend trip. You need, sewer hose, don't forget the clear 90 degree elbow. Water hose. Wheel chocks & leveling blocks. Dog bones for power. Should have.. Water pressure regulator Some kind of surge protector Water filters of some sort. Most of above can get at any Wal Mart.

UPDATE; Our Harbor Freight compressor has been maintenance free for several years now even after letting her sit for a few months. however ours is not so little. we keep it mounted in the back of the truck. you have a great view on Safety, Don't forget about upgrading or/and updating your fire extinguisher our 40' 5th wheel came with a tiny little thing ( a waist, not sufficient for an emergency) we upgraded to a rechargeable larger fire extinguisher. also be sure you have spare batteries for your smoke alarm (s). as far as chock blocks go, great job, we have the plastic leveling / stabilizing blocks, been working great under our tires and stabilizers for 5+ years now. you guys always do such great videos, always a bit entertaining and a lot of good information. That's funny, I did the same thing to our commercialized license plate frame and it wasn't even camping world...lol. wishing every one the best of health and safe travels.

The gauge doesn’t ever work correctly. Because the pressure is dependent on the temp. And they do stop the flow but only if you have a huge leak. If you have a slow to moderate leak it will not shut it off how would it know off it is a leak or your using the propane

I have the same surge protector. I love it. But boy is it bright at night. I have 2 honda 2200 portable generators for my rv so I bought a dewalt low profile trim air compressor that stows under my jack knife. Not only can use for my tires. Many other uses but is only 2 gallon. It's even quiet not like the noisy pancake types. It's a great alternative. I also keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen area. A nice review for me as I am heading out (hopefully) March 1st. The weather isn't cooperating right now (-15 to -25 over night) but have been working on setup and take down lists (and stocking lists for the road). Maybe add the water splitter to the list? The water problem (for a part timer) I found the Clear2 O, 2 stage system that goes to 1 Micron. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again for the "Basic RV Gear" again it never gets old! hi guys, great tips as always... one thing i would highly recommend if you're doing a lot of moving around is have an account with a national or regional tire monger such as Les Schwab or Big-O Tires. they do offer service truck calls (not cheap but well worth it in a dicey situation) and you can get tires at their retail locations even when you're a little low on the froghides in your wallet. this can be every bit as valuable as the thousand parks or other campground membership. one year working in california the earth first-ers paid my truck and slide in camper a visit. they loosened the lug nuts on one wheel. my dog went bonkers when i came back at the end of the day to leave and head down the mountain. she was trying to say: "dad!! sumbody mussed wit de truk!!" being winter and the road grader have just gone thru with its wheels all snow chained up, the rumble of the loose wheel didn't register. driving on hard pack with snow chain gouges, your wheels rumble anyway. so a few miles down the road the crew wagon pulled up behind me. as i let them pass the drivers side front took a dip...i thought i was in the ditch. nope.. the wheel fell off. on the passenger side was a straight drop off several hundred feet straight down reminiscent of a snuffy smith comic strip with several dozen vehicles never recovered still languishing in the bottom. on the way back up to idaho i had to stop in to a Les Schwab tire center along the way and they changed out the lug studs, wheel and nuts.. bought 2 new tires as well. but it still set me back a pretty penny. it was then and there i could see the good sense of having a charge account with a tire monger...

Happy Valentine’s Day you guys! Another great, informative video! So proud you’ve learned so much...you’re “old-timer’s” now! Since we have a 26 ft motorhome, we do use the stackable levelers, and that works just fine for us...unless we are on very loose gravel. That’s when we sometimes will slide around due to loss of traction. Yes, yes, YES on the tire monitoring system and water filtration! You NEVER really know about each areas water purity...Bakersfield, CA has a lot of residual nitrates in their water, and they notify you of that. It’s from the fertilizers that has been used over the years for all the orange groves in the area. We arrive there with a full water tank. BTW, the electrical management system you plug in at campgrounds?...padlock it to the electrical box! Unfortunately, they are expensive and there are some who would just steal it if it were not locked-on. Another couple of items that Tim and I consider essential, whether a newbie or an old timer rving, is make SURE you have multiple extra fuses in all the amps used in your RV. We’ve learned, years ago, you can’t have too many in reserve! Another very helpful item to carry is a shovel.... you can easily get stuck in sand or mud, and our little fold-up shovel has been needed multiple times, for various reasons. Geeze you two, I just love seeing you “blossom” (!!!) into such well-informed, helpful people! Keep it up, love you guys, Virginia 💕

In Australia we are lucky. Our power is 240volt. 15 amp for vans and 10amp for domestic. Have an amphibian adapter to take domestic power into the van. As for sullage, each side has its own receiver with a separate dump point for our toilet waste.

I'll agree to tires, I didn't check tires in the fall before driving 2 miles to store for the winter. pressure was low in 1 tire, and I popped the bead in the middle of town with no place to pull over. it was hard parking in my shed lacking a tire. I was planning on changing all tires in the spring anyways. hopefully the rim is ok, but when I have to buy 1 rim for a spare, a second wont break the bank. that will be interesting to jack up the rig to take all 4 tires off to make 1 trip to the shop. If I'm lucky enough to be able to reseal the tire, I'll let them jack and change everything, but if the tire is finished, then I'll do the half the work for the shop. then the fun of inventing a spare tire mount, and installing a tpms

Where not new anymore, but still always good to get some reminders on things, but I must mention that was hilarious the way tore up the Camping World licenses plate signs 🤣. Luckily, I have/had my BA in YT RVing 😉😅, so when we brought our rigs, we dodged that bullett 👍🏽. Safe travels guys, GB. LeLe fr: Northen Cail 😆🌞😎

Excellant video. Most important about water filtration. I will add one other thing not essential. A heated water hose. If you get called out by a family emergency. Sometime during the winter. A heated water hose can be quit a help.

I'm interested in getting the TST TPMS. Which sensors did you get? Are you happy with your choice or would you get a different kind if you had it to do over again? Thanks for your help.

We bought a 2020 Ram 3500. The truck itself has sensors on the tires but I think I've heard you say in the past that we should get more sensors for this TST system. Which one do we buy? Do we just get extra sensors?

I loved this video. We’ve been RVing for about 20 years; part time. I wish someone had done a video like this way back when. I picked up some great ideas today. Thanks for doing this. I’ve been a subscriber for a number of months, but I don’t take the time to watch all of them. One thing I noticed today - - Mercedes you look like an actress. A pretty actress.
