How did you include Shine 'O Clock by Jay Jody but not Heartbreak Hotel by The Big Hash. HBH was labeled R&B/ Soul but it is the most hip-hop adjacent album. He literally has songs where he's only rapping like Versailles, Blue Bucks, and That's Wassup. Hash literally spent 5 years on that project and it shows whereas Jay Jody's album was overwhelming because he was trying to do too much. He was literally trying to make majority of love songs that didnt click. Big Hash made songs that resonate, I've never experienced heartbeak but I still related with the album compared to Shine 'O Clock. The expectations of that album were too high. His Ep in the beginning of the year was literally better than that album. Not too mention the factors you were talking about like cohesion, mainstream success etc. HBH literally has cohesion and more mainstream success than Shine 'O Clock. The cultural impact is not as big as the albums on this list but its there. He headlined his first show this year. Did Jody do that or was he busy piggy backing off Reece? I knew HBH wasn't going to make the list but as soon as you mentioned Shine 'O Clock, I just feel like HBH should've made the list then since we're excepting mediocrity. HBH is literally the best album of this year across all genres and it deserves recognition and an honorable mention. Edit: I forgot the most crucial point here. HBH was nominated as the best hip-hop album this year along Dust. Was Shine 'O Clock nomimated? No. That goes to show the impact and how hip-hop adjacent it was. For that mere fact it deserves a spot on the list. As for i did my research 🚮
