Awesome video. Honestly, I think that Startling 49 is an all time great, but the best sci fi robot cover ever (also Schomburg, but often unknown) has got to be Brick Bradford 6. Give it a look and see if it should be on your next list :)

As a longtime collector of the books featured here, I have to say that I am so glad that Jeff took issue with the inclusion of some of these entries,....my top ten or 20, etc. would be different too. Another issue I have is this: Do we include covers based on what their monetary worth is , or how well designed and drawn the cover is,.....for me its about the latter, I look for the best art in that genre somewhat regardless of price.,..........how many times have your heard the phrase repeated in the guide buy what you like, hopefully that is what attracted us all to the comics medium is the art, not the necessarily the financial reward,..... If some want to do a top 10 list feat the most expensive covers of pcsf fine, but as for the best covers Ill stick with the best art job,.........

I think the Overstreet list is designed for the collector who is new to Sci Fi comics, it's all "Mainstream" stuff - like when a "Greatest Songs of the 80s" list only has Michael Jackson, Madonna and Bruce Springstien but completely ignores Bauhaus, Swirling Eddies and Dead Milkmen. The Overstreet books are "The Hits".

NEED a Startling Comics #49!!!!
@Aquaman1054
@Aquaman1054 2 жыл бұрын
I like Adam Strange. I like Space Ranger (Rick Starr). I like this channel. It's fun. I was reading Mystery in Space (Adam Strange) and Tales of the Unexpected (Space Ranger) as a youngster in the 1960's. Both Adam Strange and Space Ranger are Silver Age characters. Space Ranger debuted in Showcase Comics #15, following up his initial appearance in Showcase Comics #16. Adam Strange debuted in Showcase Comics #17, followed by Showcase Comics 18 and 19. These issues were published in 1958, less than two years after the Barry Allen Flash and The Challengers of the Unknown debuted in Showcase Comics #4 and #6, respectively. So, with all due respect to Overstreet, you can remove Space Ranger and Adam Strange from the Top 10 Sci-Fi Comic Book list and easily replace them with Planet Comics, Startling Comics. I totally agree that those series should be in this Top 10 list. I would certainly not have many qualms about including Famous Funnies for its' Buck Rogers run. I'm a big Buck Rogers fan! However, Famous Funnies featured other newspaper comic strips from different genre's as well.

Quick comment. Some of the missing covers were later "found" and there was a sticker set issued to those that bought them from the publisher directly where you could "stick" the covers into the blank spaces in these books. I could never find the sticker set (I bought these after-market, not direct). I really should go on the Internet and print them off to "stick" in there :)

Franklandish finding the actual stickers is extremely difficult. Printing them up individually is a great idea.

supragino this is a really tough question and get asked this quite a bit and should really do a video on it. You can probably jump into fawcette titles(Captain Marvel, Whiz, Master Comics Captain Marvel jr and Mary Marvel) for relatively inexpensive and still relevant with the Shazam movie on the horizon.
@supragino

@@goldenageguru that is actually a great reply and would be an awesome video. There is so much Golden Age and sometimes gets confusing. So many characters never heard of and some books I wonder why they are so popular. Also finding specific characters first appearances like Felix the Cat for example is one I'd probably want, but so hard to search in regards to the book name itself

This overstreet list is terrible, honestly, lol. How about: Blue Bolt 105, 106, 108, 110? Captain Flight 11? Pretty much any Fiction House title has 10 better sci-fi books than the whole overstreet list lol. Marvel Mystery Comics has numerous sci-fi themed issues that I'd take over any on this list. Human Torch 23? Yeah, Startling 49, one of the best comic book covers of all time.

Sorry but you guys are wrong about the numbering, avoiding using #1. Its simply a way for the publisher to avoid having to pay $2000 for every new series to the post office. If they didn't start at issue 1 they could get away without paying the post office a deposit for meter mailing for the new series of comics. Feldstien was cheap and inventive. Its all good.
