Thing about Scooby-Doo ripoffs - Hanna Barbera made most of them! Jabberjaw was the worst: A clone of the Scooby cast, and their talking creature was part Scooby, part Rodney Dangerfield, part Curly Howard. Originality was NEVER a priority at H-B, and you couldn't exactly sue yourself. But then Scooby-Doo started as a steal on Dobie Gillis and adding a dog anyway (Shaggy was Maynard G Krebs, Fred was Dobie Gillis, Velma was Zelda Gilroy, and Daphne was originally Thalia Menniger, but was pretty much any of Dobie's unattainable girls).
@wanna-be-thinker2377
@wanna-be-thinker2377 4 ай бұрын
And some people mistakenly though they ripped off Archie because they forgot that both Archie and Dobie used the same high school kid format several comics, movies, books and radio shows used in the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's. Even Josie and the Pussycats comics in its first format (when it was named "Josie"), though with a twist. It "mixed" characters. Sure Alan is an obvious Archie/Dobie clone, and another predecessor to Fred, and her early series friend Pepper was a Zelda/Velma type, but most of the other characters were hybrids including Josie herself. Josie was a mix of Betty and Veronica/Thalia/Daphne. Josie previous boyfriend, Alan's predecessor Albert (she went from one Al to another) was a mix of Archie/Dobie/Fred and Jughead/Maynard/Shaggy. Even Alexander was what happens when you mix the "Jughead" type with the "Reggie/Dobie's rivials" type, with his twin sister being a female version mixed with Veronica (and for a brief while in the comics Sabrina The Teenaged Witch). I think even Valerie's personality is suppose to be a mix of the "Betty" type, the "Velma" type, with a dash of the "Josie mix" type.

I’ve watched and liked “Fangface”, “Dynomutt, Dog Wonder”, and “Jabberjaw” before I discovered their premises were similar to Scooby-Doo. I liked Fangface for the fact that the main character could transform into a werewolf. For Dynomutt, Dog Wonder, the fact it starred crimefighting duo that faces a variety of supervillains. Finally, I liked Jabberjaw for the fact that it starred air-breathing, Brooklyn-accented, Curly Howard voiced, Great White Shark. Plus, the fact the each of the main characters are voiced by the voices of Fred Jones and Scooby-Doo himself, Frank Welker.
@COMPFUNK2

I always thought Jabberjaw was a caricature of Rodney Dangerfield rather than Curly Howard. But one interesting thing about that show is that it seemed like it focused more on the women than the men, as they rarely even said the men’s names (the one who resembled Shaggy was called Clamhead; and the other guy’s name was Biff, I think).
@matthewmira3265
@matthewmira3265 Жыл бұрын
@@COMPFUNK2 Jabberjaw’s voice is that of an impression of Curly Howard due to the similar high-pitched voice and the fact says “nyuk-nyuk-nyuk!” and “woo-woo-woo!” like Curly, while Jabberjaw does usually say Rodney Dangerfield’s catchphrase “I don’t get no respect.”, he would even shorten it by just simply saying “No respect.”

Stay with me here… It seems like Hanna-Barbera never quite knew what they wanted to do with Captain Caveman. In the 70s he initiated as a “real“ caveman (I guess) with the Teen Angels; then in the early 80s, he appeared on the Flintstone Comedy Show where instead of being a real caveman, Captain Caveman was the superhero alter ego of a guy name Chester who worked at a news station called Cave Central with Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubble (and since when did Wilma and Betty have jobs?). Finally (and in my favorite incarnation), in the late 80s, he was added to the Flintstone Kids in a segment called Captain Caveman and Son.
@COMPFUNK2
@COMPFUNK2 Жыл бұрын
Side note about the Flintstone Kids, though… I don’t remember where I read this, but there was a user who wrote something on a website that I had never thought about before then. It was something along the lines of: “Based on evidence from the original series, the Flintstone Kids shouldn’t have been possible, as it has been established that all the characters did not know each other at this age. Fred and Barney would not meet Wilma and Betty until they were at least out of high school. They also not know Dino at this time, as they adopted him in the episode the Snorkasaurus Hunter from the parent series.” All of those things are true, but that’s the kind of trouble you run into when you do “kid“ versions of cartoons.

I remember all of these shows. Most of the I watched in first run on Saturday mornings, while a few others I watched in syndication. Speed Buggy was one of the few to be shown on all three TV networks. I discovered The Funky Phantom, The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids in syndication, while the rest on first run Saturday mornings. Still, many great childhood memories. You did forget a few, which could've been "honorable mentions", such as the aforementioned "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kids", "Goober and the Ghost Chasers", (which had the Partridge Family kids, Laurie, Danny, Chris and Tracy guest star on half of the episodes assisting them, alongside their dog Goober, on mysetries for their magazine and also guest starrred Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Gray, best known as Billy Batson on Shazam!), CB Bears, Buford and the Galloping Ghost, Wonderwheels (part of the Skatebirds show), the live action Wonderbug (part of the Krofft Supershow) and last but not least, though it aired in the early to mid 1980's, I feel it also counts, which is "Shirt Tales", which followed the same theme as "Scooby Doo" but only featured small animals with super hero type alter egos. Later on, Captain Caveman would become part of a couple of Saturday morning Flintstones spin-off shows, such as "The Flintstones Comedy Show" (NBC) and "The Flinstone Kids" (ABC). I also subscribed and also, signed up for new notifications. Thanks for uploading.

Of course, most people would only know this series from that one Harvey Birdman episode. LOL 6. One of the best series. It's still crazy that they also crossed over with Dexter's Lab. 5. Another series most likely remembered through Harvey Birdman. Funny that this series had at least 2 crossovers with Scooby, too. 4. Another series that had some notable crossovers. It was pretty okay. 3. I saw it more as a Curly ripoff than a Scooby ripoff. It was pretty okay, too. 2. Makes sense. Mix in Charlie's Angels with a character from the Flintstones Kids. 1. The fact that a top 10 list isn't even enough to put all of the 70s rip offs, let alone more modern ones like Mike Tyson Mysteries (which yes, is a parody, but still related) is shocking

I, for one, never thought fangface was all that funny.. but HEY.. that's just me. Now CLUE CLUB on the other hand.. THAT's a show I LOVED.. it had a lot of fun to it and I ADORED the "young super genius" that was the brains behind the group. Chan and his clan... another one that I honestly never found funny.. it just didn't ring with me. I very much remember Funky Phantom, but I never got to see any.. I know "of" it tho.. SPEEDBUGGY AND DinoMutt... they gave me a TON Of laughs!! Josie and the pussycats.. very fun.. on BOTH counts.. One of my favorites indeed is Captain Caveman I proudly own the DVD of it!
