I am most impressed by Singapore's rapid transformation - from an impoverished Asian nation with limited natural resources to a global gold standard for smart cities in less than five decades. This achievement is truly remarkable.

We definitely cannot compare with China. Their government doesn’t have to answer taxpayers how they spend taxpayer’s money. The rest of the world needs to answer to their people, even the HK govt still need to answer to their people so they have to consider properly before doing an overhaul of their metro system. Btw, HK’s metro is making a profit while in China, we know they are making huge losses although they do look flashy and high tech. 😂

Chinese cities should be at the top of the list. Singapore is a tiny place! I just came back from Shanghai, Nanjing and Chongqing (the most populous city in the world); prior to that Shenzhen, GZ and Xiamen. There are other Chinese cities much better equipped than Singapore!

Thank you for sharing your perspective! 🌟 Chinese cities like Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chongqing are indeed incredible examples of rapid development and cutting-edge urban innovation. While Singapore's size may be small, its approach to smart city planning sets a unique benchmark for efficiency and sustainability. It's fascinating to see how diverse approaches to urbanization are shaping the future of cities across Asia. Which Chinese city do you think embodies the smartest solutions for urban living?

The Chinese have copied much of the Singapore playbook beginning with the Suchou Industrial Park in 1994 (city-planning, indutrial and urban greenery). These was replicated in the transformations of other Chinese cities.

@@maxp670 That's an excellent point! The Suzhou Industrial Park is indeed a shining example of how Singapore's urban planning strategies have influenced China's rapid development. It’s fascinating to see how these ideas have been adapted and scaled across cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen, creating unique urban landscapes. This cross-pollination of ideas highlights the power of collaboration in shaping smarter cities. Which transformation inspired you the most?

If Singapore wants to, it can have the best and latest tech in infrastructure, but our government need to answer to the people why they spend so much, China’s government don’t have to answer to their people’s question on how they spend taxpayer’s money, hence we can’t compare. 😂
