It's cute how a lot of English native speakers think being fluent in two languages is a sign of intelligence. Many, many people who did not grow up with English as their first language are fluent in two or more, as is almost everybody with parents from different countries. Speaking 3 or 4 languages well is still rather normal in big parts of the world. Not to put down Natalie Portman, she is both a very intelligent and likeable woman and a great actress. I just thought it was funny how her speaking two languages was pointed out as a sign of some great intellect (neither is going to an Ivy League school if you come from a wealthy family, btw, Harvard in particular is notorious for shady practices involving giving their students high grades by default so as to not piss off rich parents that may withhold donations).
@ArsPraestigium8 жыл бұрын
I was invited to attend Harvard after my first couple of semesters at a "lesser" school. I couldn't afford the tuition at Harvard, but the fact that I was invited shows that they'll let just about anyone in.
@BatgirlNightwing168 жыл бұрын
This is untrue and offensive. Ivy Leagues all offer 100% free tuition to any student wh makes under $60,000 a year and charges only a percentage of their tuition to students who make under $150,00 a year. All Ivy leagues are very, very difficult to get in to, and going to them is in fact a sign of intelligence. Harvard has a bunch of systems in place to specifically fight against classism in their school. Though I agree that being bilingual in her case doesn't necessarily mean she's intelligent considering she is fluent in Hebrew, but was also born in Israel
@yanelafabra91278 жыл бұрын
Well,if you are fluent in 2 languages but non in your family speaks other but your native language also means you are not smart? I mean, learning a language is a whole process,specially if you learn it in your adulthood. In my case, I feel makes you a little bit smarter than other,because opens your mind. I wonder how many languages do you speak... I speak 4 and certainly I do not have family with other heritage but latino.
@BatgirlNightwing168 жыл бұрын
speaking other languages does make you intelligent, especially if you learn them on your own. I just can see how somebody knowing two languages because they lived in two countries is, not unintelligent, just taking advantage of circumstance? I don't think I'm explaining that well. It certainly makes you intelligent

You missed out the 3 other band members of Queen, who all had University degrees and IQ's over 150. Freddy Mercury had a degree in Graphic design and illustration - he did the art work on the band's most iconic record sleeves - "A Night At The Opera", and "A Day At The Races". Roger Taylor gained a degree in biology and was due to further his career by becoming a dentist. John Deacon was the most intelligent of them all, gaining a First Class Honours degree in Electronics. They have been collectively known beforehand as the most highly qualified rock band in the world.

Pebbles The Cat What do you mean by " Had " ? Do these people not have their earned degrees any more? In your sentence ' You missed out the 3 other band members of Queen' The word OUT is redundant and not required in the sentence. Ir should read: You missed three other band members of Queen. Read more books to become fluent in the English language. However, I will give you credit for correctly using 'Title Case' when writing titles. "A Night At The Opera", and "A Day At The Races". @That80sGuy19723 жыл бұрын
"Tongue", not "tong". Your spellchecker missed that. I might be wrong, I read this in the USA. You might have spelled it right where you live. As for here, most of us being less than bilingual, it's an asinine cultural thing. Most of us here in the USA speak many forms of USA English, "American". It's a lot of cants, slang's, jargon, etc. Our bilingual efforts are usually "Spanglish" that's a conflicted mix of Spanish, Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Portuguese, etc. Some are French mix-ups that are brought in by French (real French are the minority, actually), Cajun (majority), and Quebec. USA Americans tend to not be really exposed to real languages outside of USA (regional) English and the divisional slang. As a US citizen, I can say we don't have a more than mono-lingual friendly way of learning anything because our culture is also a language war. A child of that one is a slang thing that actually produced the "Ebonics" child... far more anti-black racist than those that love it believe it is... and really gave a lot of fuel to white supremacist groups for stereotypes while giving racist on the other end a way to, in conversations, scream "I'm black and that's my whole identity". I digress... I won't even rant about the Latino version of Spanglish that bled out of prison that made gang culture a thing and the "I'm down with being a guy's f^ck toy" with guys "busting a sag".
