“The Guiding Light,” was my favorite. My mom watched it in the 60s and I started watching it when I was 13 and, it was the longest running show ever in history at that particular time before it went off on the air. Josh and Reva, the last scene, riding into the sunset….Love that they ended the show getting back together.

Yeah me and my mom loved Another World 🌍. My mom and I always liked Mac but we hated Rachel for the way she treated Alice stealing Steve Frame from Alice and then we he died she tried taking that house Steve built for her... Rachel was nasty condescending woman using Jamie her son as a bargaining chip with Steve.... So When she landed Mac moving into that mansion we thought it was unfair that she could find love believing she was a gold digger...Eventually me and my mom grew to love Rachel years later and she actually loved Mac and had his daughter...She also knew how to ✋ handle Cecile and I remember the arguments she had with Mac... Rachel could for sure hold her own....... Rachel also had a million dollar smile...I didn't notice how beautiful she was until she was battling with Janice Frame who married Mac and tried to kill him with poison... Rachel was right about Janice marrying Mac for his money....

Definitely room for a part two on this topic! My mom stuck with the NBC soaps and several now household names came out of several! From "The Doctors" 1963-82, we got Sigouney Weaver, Kathleen Turner, Alec Baldwin, Julia Duffy and Armand Assante to name a few. Another World also had a few firsts like it being increased into a 90 minute soap for a couple of years in the 70s. Ray Liotta came out of this cast among others. It also had spinoffs Texas and Somerset, where Ted Danson got a start.

Soap operas are a relic of the past. Passed on from generation to generation. My mom passed them on to us gen Xers. My gen Z daughter hated them! I watched many and so did my mom. Edge of Night, Guiding Light, All My Children, Search for Tomorrow, Generations, Ryan’s Hope, Loving, One Live To Live, As The World Turns. A good time to watch TV! And the summer story lines with super couples! Classic. Luke and Laura, Morgan and Kelly, Betsy and Steve, Jessie and Angie and others, with accompanying songs. The song “Think of Laura” from Christopher Cross comes to mind. Great time to come of age!

Now, you can't mention super couples without Greg and Jenny from All My Children! DAYTIME: Capitol!!! No one I ask has ever heard of it. It wasn't on long, 2-3 years (if I remember correctly), but it ended on a MAJOR cliffhanger and back then, there was no final note/word/article for the writers to share the vision of the intended episodes, so the cliffhanger remains unanswered. NIGHTTIME: Flamingo Road. One of Mark Harmon's earliest roles. Also starred Morgan Fairchild.

I live in France, and "Santa Barbara" was broadcast here in the 1980's. It was a HUGE hit, broadcast every evening around 7pm just before the evening news. It was so popular you had the whole family watching it, children included (I was around 7). It was also spoofed by "Les Inconnus", a famous French humour band, under the title "ça te barbera" (which means "it will bore you" lol).

Primetime TV in terms of airing schedule is like going to school. Each season starts in the fall and ends in the spring. When their shows get canceled, it’s the equivalent to graduation. Daytime programming is like going to work. Episodes air daily Monday through Friday, and when their shows get canceled, it’s the equivalent to retirement. I highly recommend watching Soapdish (1991) as that’s a film poking fun at soap operas.

I'm 47 at the time of writing this, and I remember watching All My Children with my mom and sister back around 1981 and 1982. As soon as we got a VCR a couple of years later, I learned how to program that thing so we never missed an episode. It went off the rails in the late 2000s, but when it was good, it was fantastic.

There were quite a few old soaps missing. I remember Where the Heart Is, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, and The Secret Storm were all on CBS (the only channel my mom watched). I believe some may have been 15 minute soaps before they transitioned to 30 minutes, then an hour.

I only watched 2 soaps; Days of Our Lives because my mom watched it everyday. And General Hospital because my step mom watched it every day (I went back and forth between my parents after they divorced). I was very young when I first saw DOOL, so I kinda grew up with it. It was the only soap my mom watched, so it was the only one that I watched, UNTIL I was introduced to Luke & Laura when I was 15 years old. Anyway, I haven’t watched any soaps for many many years.

So glad that AMC was #1. It was my all time fav to watch. That is, up until 2006, when the writers then just completely trashed the once great show and it's legacy characters. I stopped watching for a while, then eventually came back when I heard they brought Angie & Jesse back.

I watched ‘General Hospital’ as a kid in the late 1960s. Continued on and off throughout the years. During 1983-85 I was a Marine stationed on Okinawa. Marines in our work section watched it on lunch break. As the closing theme music played all the chairs started scraping on the floor as the Marines headed back to work! The episodes that aired on the Armed Forces network were a few months behind the USA. So when someone came back from leave, they would give everyone a ‘preview’ of the upcoming episodes. 😉

I spent 20 months of 2021-2022 rewatching Dark Shadows (at two episodes a day, every day), which shows an easily overlooked reason for its enduring legacy: it exists. Of 1225 episodes, only one's missing, and even it still has the audio. A lot of soaps have little or no surviving footage from before the late 70s! Those are the truly forgotten.

Hi. When I was a girl (in the 1960s) I watched Dark Shadows (1966-1971), Peyton Place, The Edge of Night (1956- 1984), Perry Mason, the Avengers with John Steed and Emma Peel, Secret Agent Man, Man from UNCLE, Girl from UNCLE, and a soap with a character called Asa Buchannan. I loved him. It might have been One Life to Live. As I got older I watched General Hospital, PineValley with Erica Kane (she was married to everyboday in PineValley) and at night a sitcom called SOAP. It was very funny. I also watched at night Dynasty, Falcon Crest and the Colbys. I even watched the soaps in Spanish. yeah, I watched a lot of television growing up. Now as an old lady, I read books. Don't watch much television now.

Edge of Night was the first soap I got hooked on when I was a teenager and I was sad when it ended. Appropriately, it ended with Mike Karr barking out orders to start investigating another crime. I was also hooked on One Life to Live and Guiding Light and All My Children, but I stopped watching them before they ended. Two broke my heart too often with stupid writing and plot decisions and the other just got boring.

My mom was mainly a CBS soap watcher, but we would also check out ABC and NBC. I was born in 1982 and enjoyed soaps in the '80s and '90s. Times change, but it was great when soaps were so popular and had their own award shows.
