I have an explanation for the Werehog transformation in general. You can trace back just about every physical change to Sonic in this form to Dark Gaia itself. It was energy feedback from releasing Dark Gaia that edgy'd Sonic in the first place. The sharp claws, teeth, and other pointed/jagged edges are present on Dark Gaia and his various spawn. The stretchy arms are present on Dark Gaia spawn, too, and relate to Dark Gaia's long stretchy tendrils. Werehog's thick, long fur relates to Dark Gaia's spectral mane. Both Werehog and Dark Gaia can produce spherical barriers for protection.

I hope Sonic turns into either Super Sonic or Dark Spine Sonic or Werehog or Excalibur Sonic (or maybe even all of the above) whenever he hears people/characters slander him! My favourite is, if it counts, uninhibited shadow! It’s less of a form but more of a power break and I can’t help but love it! The fact shadow who has been seen to be one of the strongest characters in the franchise is keeping a lid on his full power is just cool! I know his body literally can’t handle the stress of it all for too long. But my god any scene where those rings come off are always brilliant scenes

I really wish Shadow had more reasons to release his full power cause it's such an interesting part of him. By unlocking his rings, he releases a bunch of enery but can only do it for a short time due to there being a reason he keeps the rings on. Shadow's already pretty cracked so there hasn't really been a reason to take the rings off since 06 but man it would be cool if we ever got a moment like that again.

You're going to love the story of Sonic Frontiers, after seeing only a few leaked minor spoiler cutscenes on Kronos island, the story feels like a really good 2000's Era sonic story with better dialogue and writing with Ian Flynn taking the helm.

As a Secret rings Enjoyer I can say without a doubt while not the most iconic obviously it is easily the the best moat badass look for him. As you stated I just love the idea that he is suffering in this form. Sonic isn't a rageful guy. He is fun loving and kind, yet here after watching his friend actually die like not severely Injured she actually died in his arms. The amount of emotions in his head, unknowingly calling to the negative emotions of the Seven rings. Hell half the time it sounds like he is gritting his teeth, holding back burning pain within. And for the first and only time Sonic actually sounds like he wants to kill the villain. He is literally beating the shit out of his heart. Pushing back a fucking reality altering spirit bomb. And yet after all that he still takes control, releasing the powers of the seven world rings and doing right for the world

My personal list would probably be 1. Darkspine Sonic: has the best transformation scene in any of the games, and I love how angry and in pain he sounds during the final boss fight. I just wish we could see this form make a comeback in some way. 2. Super forms: Years ago, they would have been lower, but now I love these forms even more, especially the hedgehog trio. The golden aura, the sense of speed you get, and the feeling of triumph when beating a boss with this form. I'm very excited to see super sonic return in frontiers. 3. Metal Overlord: one of the best designs in the series. A metal dragon formed from eggman's entire army is incredible, and I wish we could see this form again as well as neo metal sonic. 4. Mephiles(2nd form): another fantastic design, and he has some of the best scenes when he fights with Team Dark. It may not be the strongest transformation, but it's definitely one of the coolest. 5. Hyper Sonic: I chose Hyper Sonic specifically because it's the one I want to see come back the most. Maybe tone down the flashing colors and make him solid white with a colorful aura, and it would be perfect. But the satisfaction with getting this form and the idea of Super Emeralds makes this transformation special for me. Honorable mentions Dark Sonic from Sonic X: I would have put him on here, but he only has one scene. And a lot of the coolest stuff we see from this is fanmade. But I would love to see this form make a comeback. Fleetway Super Sonic: Terrifying and a unique take on Super forms. But I don't know if I want to see it again.

Another interesting thing about the werehog form is Sonic becomes more aggressive while he is in that form. Dark Gaia’s influence is having some effect on him, but like Chip says, Sonic’s heroic personality is so strong it prevents him from losing his mind like everyone else. He’s still the same Sonic.

I'd like to point out that unlike the light forms of Sonic such as Super Sonic and Excalibur Sonic, which are both formed by positive powers(radiance, friendship, love, hope, and the will to protect all that is good and innocent), his dark forms like Darkspine Sonic and the Werehog are formed unwillingly and painfully by negative powers(rage, sadness, hatred, and some energy from Dark Gaia, respectively).

The absolute best Super moment has to be 06 post kiss (I know, we're tired of hearing about it. Just needed to make the very important distinction. Sonic, revived and golden passes on his power to Shadow and Silver. Silver probably doesn't know what this power is but doesn't care. All that matters to him is saving the future. After transforming, the three hedgehogs fly off in order to stop the wrecker of the past, present and future Solaris. Absolutely epic.

The fact that Sega brought hyper forms back for the genesis games getting re-released, along with the fact that mania had super mighty and super ray, there probably is some hope of more characters going super or possibly even hyper. I mean, it does look like we finally get the origin of the Emeralds (master emerald included) in Sonic Frontiers.

Wow, those are great picks. :) I would also mention Eggman's transformation when he himself use the Chaos Emeralds (both from Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog & Sonic 2 Film) to be powerful! Even Metal Sonic use Dark Emeralds in the Triple Trouble fan remake to change into Dark Metal as I was surprised that Metal is the true final boss! I say Scourge, Lara-Su & Nicole gotten super forms in the Archie Comics.

I would like to make an honorable mention to a form I think mostly everyone would mention, but couldn't do this being exclusive to a show. That form being Dark Sonic from Sonic X: This form is akin to that of what Darkspine Sonic is but uses elements of the super form, so in a way, you could call it hybrid. However, this form debutted before secret rings was even a thing, so this was new to us all when it came. This form, at the time, was a form unlike any other, and it definitely did not dissapoint. It started off with sonic going towards the metarrex base and entering a room full of fake chaos emeralds, all of which give him a massive chill down his spine, as this happens, the leader of the metarrex shows up and taunts sonic, showing that he has two of his friends hostage and in danger of being hurt or worse, before getting them out of Sonic's sight, almost like he was about kill them right before him. The Leader then proposes a challenge to sonic to test his abilities against his robots, one to test his speed and the other his strenght. And during this, sonic is letting his emotions get the better of him, with the fake emeralds now beginning to influence sonic in a way similar to the regular one's, the result being Sonic's fur turning into a dark blue color with a dark aura slowly surrounding him, from here on out, you can even hear sonic's anger and rage present in him. Despite that, he complied with the leader's options, and dashed on forward to the robots, destroying them in their respective expertise, destroying silver by blitzing him completely and ripping him apart, and Gold by mercilessly beating him down and giving the robot plenty of dents into it's armor. But that was far from over... Once he had done that, we not only witnessed his power in this form but we see him further progress in it as compared to before, he now looks like a negative super form, his quils are akin to that of his super form, his skin was completely dark and his eyes lose the green pupils that we had grown to know from sonic, not only that, but in that moment, he speaks in a rather... Sadistic tone, like the influence of the emeralds were slowly corrupting him. But it was then that someone else stepped in and calmed the hedgehog down, and who better to do so than the one person who has fought him the most, Eggman. Eggman tells sonic that he is dissapointed in him for going this route and this isn't like him, that despite it all, he should learn to calm himself down before he ends up hurting someone else he likes, and as sonic is listening to him, he is slowly reverting back to his base form and by the end of it all, he is looking down to the ground, realizing what Eggman is saying to him before getting the good news that both Chris and Cosmo are indeed okay. From that moment forward, we never once saw this form again, but the impact it had and it's introduction were immense, immense to the point that even to this day, people constantly mention it and even wish it could come back. Like I mentioned before, we eventually saw something similar to this in the form of Darkspine Sonic but it's clear that the two forms are different in the end, from their impact in the series to how well they were utilized, but in the end, this form holds not only a special place in people's hearts, but a solid reminder of what happens when you push sonic to his limits and beyond that.

Imma just shill fanfiction for a moment here and say that the Sonic Holograph series has some _great_ transformations. We have Shining Sonic basically putting the "super power of teamwork" to use as a source of power and also _functioning_ very interestingly, with it taking in the energy that fuels it from the environment to become essentially self-sustaining. Then we have Sacred Sonic: an expansion on the idea of Excalibur Sonic, making it more than just a suit of armor to go with Excalibur and giving it different "styles" depending on the weapon in use. Plus, the vest on the style in use there is drippy as heck. There's also Blaze's different seasonal forms, which all embody different aspects of Blaze's personality and make for some extremely fun shenanigans, along with some rather creative abilities to represent the seasons (Summer Blaze is based on Japanese summer festivals, how much more unique can you get for a summer form). And finally (for now), we have Nova Shadow, which is just, like... _so damn cool._ The purple with white stripes, the sparkling stars all over him, the actual moment in which is happens, all of it is just pure concentrated awesome! The jacket he gets during his introductory part of Holograph helps too. Such swag.

12:18 If Sonic Unleashed ever comes to PC, I hope someone makes a mod to disable that music, so we can fight the monsters while still listening to the great soundtrack. If there's a remake like with Sonic Colors, the option to disable it would be good, however, I don't like what they did with Colors, at least in terms of graphics. I would be happy with only a port. But I commend SEGA if they change my mind.

I would say one of my favorite transformation is something that's not in the games (and would love to see happen at some point) and comes from one episode of Sonic X (and is the inspiration of Darkspine Sonic) is Dark Sonic as the fanbase calls the transformation. The reasoning of that form existing is fascinating as it shows Sonic understandably angry when he sees his friends hurt and scared, causing him to lose himself and go into a bit of blind rage and fury, again inspiration for Darkspine Sonic as Dark Sonic was shown in 2006 according to the Sonic Wiki. Plus, seeing Sonic going Dark Sonic mode reminds me of Dark Jak from the Jak and Daxter sequels and Dark Spyro in the Legend of Spyro trilogy. Since Sonic has been getting the job done with positive Chaos Energy with Super Sonic for a lot of the time, why not do something like Secret of Rings did by using Negative Energy.

@@knuckson8304 Dark Spine Sonic's design just makes me think of a race car or something, rather than something from the Arabian Knights. As for the Werehog.... it's just not for me. Most people tend to like the idea of Sonic turning into a stretchy armed werewolf but hated the gameplay. For me it was the other way around; I didn't really mind the gameplay (although the music got annoying and the levels dragged on for way too long), but I couldn't stand the idea itself. Not only was it giving Sonic powers and abilities that just did not suit his personality at all, it literally felt like Sega were trying to come up with a cheap alternative to playing as Sonic's "stupid" friends, as if they could use the excuse "well, at least you're always playing as Sonic, so that makes it good, am I right?" Seriously, with some tweaks it could've been a great gameplay style for Knuckles, and the story could've been about Sonic and Knuckles traveling the world to restore power to the Chaos Emeralds, with a story that focuses on strengthening their friendship (sorry, but I just couldn't stand Chip!) Call it "Sonic & Knuckles' World Adventure!" But nope, we can't have that "cos Sonic's lame-o friends, am I right?" Give me a break!

Correction that's actually mephiles third form, his first and original form was the purple black smock he takes when shadow beats him and when shadow sealed him away in the past, Speaking of shadow he's a interesting case in tarms of forms, he has. Super dark and hero, and the chaos boost counts as a form for some reason? Super shadow is from sa2 and o6 and shadow the hedgehog Hero shadow and dark shadow are only in his game and the chaos boost is only in o6, Hero and dark shadow are strange forms, hero shadow=thoughts of justice, invincibility, harness the energy of the chaos emeralds, large boost in speed, positive/light chaos energy, releases shadows inner spirit, can fuse with super shadow and is the opposite of dark shadow Dark shadow=thoughts of vengeance/evil, invincibility, harness the energy of a chaos emerald large boost in power, releases shadows inner chaos, negative/dark chaos energy, can fuse/currept super shadow and is the opposite of hero shadow, though shown in the final stage hero and dark are still active even when shadow has no emeralds with him

@@ablosch2452 most of the forms are explained in the story like the world rings, the rings sonic absord are fire wind och darkness and the rings are filled with emotions the user is feeling. Super sonic is explained with the chaos emeralds. Deus ex machina is when a ability or form comes out of nowhere to move the plot forward
