@@MoreAdamCouser this video is bullshit. There was never really any controversy. The creators talked about it in interviews. How it's weird that they never really had any big pushback. Maybe because they were on a cable channel and not broadcast tv? It seems like a show people would be upset about. But that didn't happen. Maybe because it was so funny? Dunno. Maybe because they didn't take themselves too seriously? They didn't care about China. They were already mostly banned and they weren't making any money there anyways. It's really a show for Americans and doesn't translate well to other cultures. It's really the funniest show ever but I totally understand why Europeans don't get it. It's just so American.

For years and years people joked about how Steve Irwin was likely to be eaten by a crocodile, and in 2007, of all things, a fucking sting ray took him out. I drunkenly mentioned this at a party a couple of weeks after the incident, and record scratch, the whole party stopped: there was an Australian there, and that is one of two subjects that Aussies have NO sense of humor about. When South Park made a Crocodile Hunter joke a few days later, people (Aussies and Karens) lost their shit, but instead of apologizing, in subsequent episodes Parker and Stone double and tripled down on Steve Irwin jokes. I felt so vindicated. Jesus fucking christ, we said aloud what EVERYONE was thinking.

to fill you in. the censored bar is Mohamed himself, that was planned. when the episode aired on comedy central, they censored the word Mohammed every time, which was likely more 30 times, they also censored the whole speech Kyle gave. After the episode aired, episodes 200, 201, and an episode from season 3 or 4 which shows a religious super friends with Jesus, which had an actual visualization of Mohamed, never aired on tv since. Also in south park Mickey Mouse is the CEO of Disney, and he's quite a villian with the corporation too.
@abc123tiktok3 жыл бұрын
I remember thinking how interesting that the censorship was not planned at the very end and wasn't until after air they came out and said that was not part of show. I original thought they were just playing up the joke. Funny to think about how much of a time capsule old SP was because there was almost no reaction at all to Muhammad. They commented saying maybe got only small hate mail back then but compared to avg show back then was no controversy at all.

@erik sand I said I "thought it was", I didn't say it was. The episode could also have been a controversy where I'm from and not where you are from, who knows? You can see where I'm coming from though an episode that features a child eating their parent has fuel for controversy written all over it.

@duogemstone3 жыл бұрын
It was something they had to get permission first, they also just asked if they could use the word shit. Comedy Central took a few days to get back to them giving the go ahead thinking they would just use it once or twice, once they got permission they decide to go all out and say it as much as they could and since south park is literally sometimes finished minutes before it airs there was no chance to change it or do anything so they went ahead and aired it. But yeah it wouldn't have aired at all or made it past planning stages with any other show as it would've been change way before it came time to air it

Ya know the greatest thing about the episode about the Mormon family? It actually forced the LDS church to admit Joseph put a stone in a hate, put his face in the hat and told everyone he was reading. They’ve even released images of the stone and there’s a video of the current President of the church with the hat, the rock and he almost… almost puts his face into the hat. Given for decades they said that story was a lie and because SouthPark called them out they had to be honest? Just awesome. I was Raised LDS so I can say that episode was dead on in a lot of it’s portrayal and in part why people got upset.

In China... its not a Karen, its the actual government. In the US its a Karen. While Network TV does have come censorship regulations by the government, Cable does not (since people pay for it). In that regard South Park does not need to be censored at all. Of course Karens can impact this due to complaining to the station and advertisers and if advertisers don't want to deal with the show....there will be no show, so in that way there is censorship in the US. The major issue with Chinese Censorship is the impact of their money on US shows. Basically, for a movie or show to make even more money it has to get into China, so studios are proactively "censoring" (changing the material at the start) to fit Chinese regulations. Additionally, investment in media by China will have more Chinese presence and it will be viewed as positive. For example the original Top Gun had a series of patches on their uniforms. One of the patches was Taiwan. In the new Top Gun coming out Taiwanese patch is no longer present, while others are still there. This is because China doesn't recognize Taiwan as a country (literally talk like its part of their own nation). So any acknowledgement otherwise is an instant block from China. Side note: You want to see a story about a Karen, look up the Married with Children Karen who attempted to get the show canceled. It was before the internet so it was much more effort but she wouldn't stop.....show got better ratings as a result of all the attention she brought to the show.

Being offended is just a device for manipulation and control. Never apologize for offending someone. It’s ok to acknowledge their feelings but never apologize. You have to realize that, even in it’s first season, it was something that young teens loved but parents were against. I can also say the same for The Simpsons when it came out. Each one pushed the envelope of the U.S. during their respective inceptions. As an adult The Simpsons as seen as a family friendly one. The reason why South Park is as relevant as it is is because of changes to societal norms along with the show maturing with its audience as opposed to others that decide to pander to the same age demographic as they had when they were they began. It’s not so much a matter of people being Karens. It’s more that anything people see as inappropriate South Park will build a satirical take on the issue/point out the hypocrisy in a current system.
