I really think Stefan fell in Love with elena more than she did with Damon. I mean don't get me wrong Elena fell in love with Stefan but Stefan resisted compulsion from the strongest Orignal. Here's a little theory I figured out. So remember when Damon and Elena first met, Damon compelled Elena to find what she wants with life a love with passion and blah blah blah. That is why HUMAN Elena ALWAYS chose STEFAN (even at the end of season 3) because that's what was BEST for her. The moment she turned into a vampire and the compulsion broke, she started making wrong choices one of them was of course choosing Damon.

SAME i stopped at season 2 after accidentally spoiling myself that delena was endgame i mean Damon never respected Elena's wishes and from what i've watched he didn't want elena to turn back into human but stefan loved elena either way and did EVERYTHING to make her happy.
