for me the most unforgivable act done by a cameraman is not to focus accurately to the stunt performance which is why it is always advisable to have multiple cameramen focusing on one stunt...that proved useful in Spy who loved me's ski stunt...one cameraman missed Sylvester but luckily another cameraman had the good shot. another unforgivable act is for an editor to cut and intercut stunt scene when it is supposed to be one flow stunt work and need not be interspersed with intercut scene

Just had to stop the clip to THANK YOU for District B13. I am a fan of Luc Besson's work and came to the movie knowing nothing of Parkour,except that I had to make my husband watch it with me again once he got home from work. I've seen it about half a dozen times, and the level, quality and authenticity of the stunt work makes sure it never gets old. It's why many of us can watch Jackie Chan's Hong Kong movies over and over. Every time I watch his 94 Legend of Drunken Master, I squirm to see him in those live coals, or as he slides down the outside of a building in what looks like free fall in Who Am I, and let's not forget the amazing stunt work of Chan, and my darling Michelle Yeoh in Supercop. Thanks for the District B13, and, hint, hint, let's show Jackie some love.

With Mad Max: Fury Road being out now, if this video is ever re-made they have to include one of the stunts from that film, possibly the bending pole scene where Tom Hardy had his head scarily close to the ground on a moving car, or any of the scenes where they had to literally climb under the truck.
@KenTWOu9 жыл бұрын
arminenreviews watching footage from Fury Road set, reading articles about visual effects, I'm pretty sure the cars in that bending pole scene with Tom Hardy and other pole scenes didn't move at all. VFX team added all motions digitally: wheels, roadway, environment. George Miller didn't want to hurt people, that's why they did some of the stunts that way and had no serious injuries at all.

Thank you for paying Homage to my late Great Yakima Canutt. I got to see him one last time in 1979. It was such a pleasure to see al his awards. Yakima was stating out when the word "stuntman" was not invented yet and also invented many of the safety devises that saved the lives of many countless stuntmen.
@K3N4229 жыл бұрын
The jump from the car to the bus in Speed was an incredible stunt. No wires, no blue/green screen, the only "safety" was that it was done at 35 and not 55. And there is the dive in Waterworld, a dive that was so high they had to use wires to slow the stuntman down so he hit the water at a safe speed. Both are small stunts in the way of theatrics, but in the way of stunts, they are no small feet.

The bus jump in Speed is CGI work. I thought.
@ReggieMay10 жыл бұрын
It's partly CG, and part practical (real-life). No, the California Dept. of Highways would never let the production company drive a GMC city bus off the end of a freeway construction zone, so that was taken care of in post. The actual jump was over a solid section of road. There were 3 jump attempts: the first one crashed the bus, the 2nd actually went too far and took out the 'landing close-up' camera. The third was the money shot.

Actually the most dangerous stunt in Cliffhanger was cut from the film! In the deleted scenes Stallone and his stunt double (after the scene with the Bridge blowing up) perform a massive jump from one cliff and he uses his two hammers and his rope to grab onto the rock face on other side. This was done without CGI for real. Renny Harlin cut it out of the film because he later felt it simply didn't fit and didn't seem realistic enough. He reused one of the closeup shots of Stallone's jump in another sequence. The film Vertical Limit has a scene that is very very similar.

That was a strange one for me. In terms of how difficult that stunt was, it has to be ranked as one of the best of all time. However, it just didn't make classic cinema. I'm not saying I didn't love watching it. But I don't think it translated to the screen as well as some of Jackie Chan's work has. It just didn't quite have the magic that some of Chan's stunts do. Maybe because it was too complicated. Chan's stuff while dangerous is always simple, you can see how much danger he is putting himself in and maybe that's why it's more compelling.

Does anyone remember a stuntman who practically pioneered high story uncut free falling with just a cable attached to him at full fall till like 10 feet from the ground named Dar Robinson. He was in more than a few Burt Reynolds movies. Sharkeys Machine is one where he doubles for the bad guy who at the end gets shot multiple times and falls through a plate glass window about 80 stories high at the end. He went on to play his first stuntman turned actor role doing the stunts as well. His first movie as an was his last. A Burt Reynolds movie worth seeing called Stick. At the end he goes over a balcony in a fight scene. He played a villain/hitman. He used the than recently invented cable drop from about 110 stories. He planned on doing more acting that involved stunts but unfortunately died shortly after riding a motocross bike for fun and lost it going around 45mph. What a BITCH!
@techone728935 жыл бұрын
I was hoping someone would mention Dar. If you hadn't, I would've. He and his team invented the cable braking system and pioneered it's use for the first time on the CN Tower in 1980 (kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5yqc3yur9CpmLs). It was the second time he performed a jump off the CN Tower, the first being a freefall. I never had the good fortune of meeting Dar before his passing, but I was fortunate enough to know both of his sons, Shawn and Troy. Both went in to the business, following in their father's footsteps. Shawn can even be seen in Hook with Robin Williams. He was one of the older Lost Boys in that film. He was also the boy diving out of the way of the Semi in Metallica's music video for Enter Sandman. Shawn had his father's ability to know exactly what position he was in no matter how far or fast he was falling. Unfortunately, we lost Shawn suddenly to a un-diagnosed heart issue in 2015 at the age of 41 while he was filming in New Orleans. Troy is still working steadily in the business and is currently the personal stunt double for Vin Diesel and George Clooney.

I watched every stunt documentary I could come across in the 1980s. Dar Robinson is a legend. Jackie Chan is also legendary, I have over 70 of his films. I think it is telling that this video does not mention the name of the stuntmen...

H.B. Halicki's Mustang Jump from Gone in 60 Seconds is still one of my favorite stunts ever, probably couldn't compete with some of the top ones on this list, but I still think it should have made it on there somewhere.

@@DiegoRuiz1991 The company I work for was involved in filming the stunt. It was done over Glen Feshie in Scotland. I got into work one morning and wasn't allowed into my office as the director was discussing the filming with a colleague. jerrygarrett.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/how-the-aerial-stunt-was-filmed-in-dark-knight-rises/

I’m surprised nothing from the Dukes of Hazzard TV series is on this list. Record breaking jumps, stunt men risking their lives, and the first ever pipe ramp successfully done (Luke’s Love Story, 1st season). The cop car mid air collision has my vote.

+CineFix i really appreciate your efforts, but you can't say 'fights' or 'stunts' without mentioning the legendary Seven Little Fortunes, especially master Yuen Biao. he's leaps and bound better than Tom Cruise, but he doesn't speak english. i just want action fans to know him better and give him more credit. hope he makes it to your next video. thanks.

+Ali Ibrahim Rambo: First Blood should be on a top 10 and it wasn't shot in Hollywood.

+TheYorkMan ok, but the comparison was Yuen Biao vs Tom Cruise. i don't care about the superstar status when we're trying to be fair. a great onscreen fighter and stuntman/ stuntwoman should be acknowledged regardless of their level of fame or nationality. to me, replace Tom Cruise with Michelle Yeoh, include at least Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao, and it would make a better list. again, it's a matter of taste, and i don't expect many to agree with me. however, i respect every single stunt in the history of movies because they all show me that fear itself is small, but it has a big shadow. so, respect (bow)

+Jess James many movies should be here, and that's why i never liked a top 10 list. you could make a top 100 list and still be unfair to some. but hey, all stunts are great :)

Awesome list thank you!! The Tom Cruise stunts are my fave... Jackie Chan and Jet Li too. Shouldve included the tank or ?car skydive scene from the A-Team movie lol

Always thought Jackie Chan was batshit crazy, but I never thought he went that far with his own stunts. Shows how dedicated he is to his craft.

Best stunt ever was in a western movie in the 70's. I am still trying it find it again. The supporting actor/sidekick has his horse shot out from under him, he football rolls and jumps up firing his rifle. Awesome..

The name of the French movie featuring parkour is titled District 13; there is no 'B'. The French title of the movie is Banlieue 13. The word 'banlieue' corresponds to district.
