Derpyderp Edward Lear was a big influence on the Beatles' songwriting, as far as lyrics were concerned (John Lennon's in particular) so in this respect, the lyrics to "I am the walrus" are not stupid at all, but are what's known as "nonsense verse".

Matthew Roy that was my thought as well. It's not about being out of touch. It's clearly about being unable to comprehend how people survive being homeless, when most couldn't live without pretty basic and non essential things. They totally lost me at that point in the video.

It's the pair of lyrics together that's the problem. "Am I asleep? No, I'm alive" implies sleeping people are dead. A few extra seconds on that lyric would have made a world of difference.

spiralstaticbliss x They maybe referring to having a slice of lemon in the cider, this was seen as a very posh way of drinking cider but simply is to take the excess gas out of the cider to help with heartburn, it's the only thing I can think of!

Just an example of how so many modern people take their creature comforts for granted and weighing them up against what it would be like to not even have a roof over your head. Fair comment I would say. Now it's still a shit lyric from a forgettable song, but insensitive? I wouldn't say so. And I used to work in the homeless sector.
