Great video as always, just a thought, to append the time stamps with links to any videos of said entry that you may have produced. It would still keep the title hidden but give people a jump off point to view your content directly.

Great list and one more I'd add is Nemesis. It's got survival, exploration, resource gathering, crafting, events, enemies, environmental hazards, and the shelter just happens to be the environment being explored!
@RollingSolo Жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin! Thanks for watching. It has almost everything but I think it’s lacking on the shelter part. The ship is the environment which throws wrenches at you. That’s why this one didn’t make the cut. Close though and I’m a big Nemesis fan too. Thanks for watching. 😄

I was happy to see 7th Continent where it is on the list. It seems like it's fallen out of style over the last couple years, but for my money it's the epitome of the survival board game genre. I also liked seeing Frostpunk near the top of the list. A big Kickstarter video game adaptation by a new company was a recipe for disaster but that game is a design triumph.

Thanks for checking out the list Kevin! 7th Continent is the game that immediately comes to mind when I think of a survival board game. They nailed the design of Frostpunk. It’s a challenging survival game. It’ll be around for the long haul for sure. 😄👍🏼

I think that some games in other genres close to survival or some kind of hybrid play so similar that one could put them on the list (or honorable mention) as well. - Dawn of the Zeds (Tower Defence Survival) - Dead of Winter (Tower Defence Survival Semi-Coop) - Nemos War (Adventure) - Fallout (Adventure) - Arkham Horror LCG (Horror Investigation) - Eldritch Horror (Horror Adventure) Sometimes the only difference is that in "true" survival characters are put in a situation they didnt want to be while in other games you are the hero or investigator or rescue team so you actively chose to be in that situation.....while the situation itself can be exactly the same.

I was really looking forward to this list and I've played a couple of them agree with you. Excellent video, excellent list. I've got a couple of those but not all. For Solo survival I prefer shorter games, but they often only have some of the aspects you mentioned. L U X is a fun 15 minute attempt to survive. Also Spires End is a fun one. Probably not list worthy but I enjoy them. TWOM takes the cake as far as I'm concerned. Makes you think for every decision, though if you're doing well then it takes a while to get to the end. I don't do well very often 😂.

Great list and i will take a closer look at some of your games on this list. But i disagree a little bit with your first place. I played it and after a while i simply got bored. I didn't like the rulebook and for me it was to repetitive. Robinson Crusoe would have been on my first place. That's a true survival game and i do have a lot of memories. 7th continent... I was excited in the first place and then i got bored. I also disagree a little bit on Outlive. I own the core box and printed the solo cards and rules. It's an okay game! There are some issues that ... I wouldn't recommend it.

The escalating mechanics of flipping cards to see if you live/die with ATO really whets that survival appetite for me. Final Girl probably deserves to be considered too--a pretty stripped down can you survive experience, though my goodness it's easy to see that core element pop up all over in games. Resident Evil's can't-kill-the zombie approach too.

Great list. I would just move #1 to #10 and then I would be d'accord. The survival part and mechanisms of 7th Continent are great. So IMO, everybody should have played it. BUT: running around like an idiot (worst case cheating by checking a walkthrough to manage the curse/s) and doing the same things again and again 50% of the time in a scenario that can easily take >10hrs is not at all satisfying. So after having played two curses, I decided not do dive deeper but to sell it, also having in mind that you see the same parts of the island again. Whats the fun of hunting meat and sacrificing it for HOURS?! I just skipped that part because it feels like being fooled. Also in one scenario I came to the "final location" just to find out that I was missing e.g. 1 of 4 pieces to solve the curse. Congratulations! You have won further five hours to find it on the whole island OR just show the middle finger and check a 20 page step by step walkthrough to find out what exactly you have missed at which location. I have high hopes that 7th Citadel might be an improvement.
@RollingSolo Жыл бұрын
I’m excited for 7th Citadel too. 7th Continent may not be for everyone and requires time dedication but it’s one of the truest forms of a survival game out there. My top three are interchangeable depending on my mood or theme. I’ve noticed a lot of gamers that didn’t like 7th Continent bailed in the early portion of the game. So of the intro curses were some of the longest too. So many dove out prior to really digging in. The gameplay might not be for all though! When I think of a survival game, 7th Continent is the first game that comes to mind.
@andrethannhauser6302 Жыл бұрын
@@RollingSolo Agree, 7th Continent is the purest of survival while also being the most "realistic" one as you start the game with your characters not knowing where they are, how they got there, why they are there....and how to get away. This aspect was amazing the first time I started playing the game. It was a hard decisions to sell it even though I rated it 8.0 to acknowledge the innovative ideas and unique gameplay.
