Im fairly new to table tennis but why is it that when the people back up from the tables during the rallies the person hitting the ball does not hit it soft so that the person farther away from the table cannot get it

because a drop shot like you mean is not so easy to perform if you fail and hit the ball to high or too wide the opponents might reach it and make the point also there's much spin on the high balls and they're placed on the end of the table to make them harder to smash so mostly the attacker tries to make the point by smashing the balls until the opponent in the back makes a mistake

Number 8, 6, 4, 3 and 1 weren't even good "rallies". Incredible shots, yes, but one shot doesn't mean the whole rally is great regarding a rally consists of many shots, not just one. Should've called the video "Top 10 Table Tennis Shots 2016" then I guess. Also, the Dima-FZD one entertained me much more than the Mizutani-Apolonia one. Length =/= incredibility. (Not saying that the Mizutani rally wasn't great tho, definitely deserves to be on this list.) But that's just my opinion.

Nive1337 Agreed. The reason Ma Long vs Fang Bo rally is impressive is not because of its length. Intensity has its unique charm. Dimitri and Fan are very dynamic players
