The closing shot of "War" is especially heartbreaking, since it lingers on Diana, who has resigned herself to being trapped in a destructive marriage, and we know that it won't end well for her. While I'll miss Emma, I'm anticipating Elizabeth's take on Diana.
@jbshiva8652 жыл бұрын
What was really haunting was that the last shots of the scene were the lyrics "Sleep in heavenly peace" and the flash of the camera bulb. Sadly in RL the photogs took pictures of Diana as she was dying in the car, so this was the last thing she ever saw.
@Allthingsasian2 жыл бұрын
The end scene is filmed to perfection. The black dress can be symbolised of her mourning the loss of her independence and innocence, but also foreshadow the mourning that will ensue after her death. And also possibly allude to her future revenge dress. The deers as she walks down the stairs represent the feeling of her being hunted, ironic since her name is synonymous in Mythology with ‘Hunter’ yet it was her who was the most hunted person in the world. The paparazzi stalking her like prey. The royal family preying on her every misstep. The way she’s acknowledged by the servants but completely ignored by the royal family once again affirming her status as the People’s Princess and the Queen of our Hearts. And the sound of the camera eerily sounds like a defibrillator foreshadowing to her tragic death via chest injuries. And the flashing lights of the camera represent the paparazzi’s lights and perhaps her life flashing before her eyes during the car crash. And of course the music choice at the end- Silent Night in German, ending with ‘sleep in heavenly peace’ as the last scene shows Diana’s expression. Overall heart wrenchingly beautiful and heartbreaking all at once.

the Aberfan episode always moves me. EDIT: While the people wailed and moaned about the Queens lack of response, I think the sow put it beautifully. "Do you know what happens when the Queen visits? Everything stops." No matter that we don't know her decisions in real life, this makes a very good point. The same happens here with the President.

My favourite episodes are "Beryl" in Season 2 and "War" in Season 4. Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret stole S2. And Emma Corrin became Princess Diana, it's heartbreaking to see it knowing what would happen to her in the late '90s. "Assassins" is one of Claire Foy's best work, too.

I don’t care what people say this is such an incredible show; take it with a grain of salt, it’s obviously quite fictionalized in some aspects but honestly I think this show does a good job showing that the Royal Family are in fact humans at the end of the day. You also have to appreciate the dedication & attention to detail that this show has in spades.

The reality is that Diana did not stand a chance once she came under the control of the BRF and Charles courtiers. While it is true that she may have had some mental health issues (Bulimia is a good indicator of this) She certainly wasn't going to get help with Charles being so dismissive of her and him having a close relationship with his mistress. Charles, obviously, had no desire to send Camilla packing. He thought as PoW it was his right to have a mistress [Talk about some old-fashioned thinking in the late 20th century] Diana was brought up in a very dysfunctional home; her parents were terrible role models.[1] Johnny Spencer was cruel to Frances and was known to beat her up. Frances, for whatever reason wanted the man who became her second husband. Diana's maternal grandmother sided with Johnny and caused Frances to lose custody of her children. The press had a field day with the Spencer divorce and custody proceedings. Meanwhile, nobody was paying very much attention to either Diana or Charles Edward Spencer (her younger brother). All of the Spencer children hated their step-mother. Raine was not the mothering, cuddling type and Frances was absent. (It is sad that Frances chose to have an affair as a means to get out of her marriage; but she probably needed the second husband to survive since she probably knew she could not support her children herself. Eventually Frances' husband divorced her and went back to the wife he left to be with her.) 1.) The same can be said of Charles, although I do not think that Prince Philip was ever as nasty to Elizabeth as Johnny Spencer was to Diana's mother (Johnny's father had also been a wife-beater). *Charles at least had his grandmother who loved him* . *unconditionally.* Diana's maternal grandmother was more interested in being in the Queen Mum's good graces than making sure that her grandchildren had their mother with them.

I didn't like season 5 that much. Too much concentration of only Charles and Di. Di being the only one who looked a bit like the original. Also, might be a bit ridiculous, it irritates me when they pick actors with different eye colors for the same role. Like the did with as well the Queen as Margret.
