It's so fascinating how Charles was both a victim of his family's cold-heartedness and elitism against the woman he loved, and the guilty party in his destruction of Diana's life. Abuse is a cycle indeed.
@isawanactualcicada14493 жыл бұрын
The family has to be cold hearted. As monarchy, your not entitled to your own opinion or speak out against anything, because otherwise it would hugely affect public opinion. The Crown has to always prevail over family or the monarchy collapses

Charles was an self entitled ass. Anne has said multiple times that Elizabeth was a warm and caring mother, as much one could be with her busy life. Elizabeth gave them independence so that they can have the very tiny freedom the royal family has. But Charles got too greedy. It makes me think how Anne is still more Monarch material that the actual heir. They had similar upbringing. Anne was more hated by the public and press for her rude and straight to the point character. But nowadays she along with the queen and William are the most popular royal.

I personally love 48:1. The prologue with Claire Foy back as a Young Elizabeth, along with a young Margaret Thatcher perfectly setting up their rivalry throughout the episode. And in their meeting at Buckingham Palace, you understand how their upbringings shaped who they are. Thatcher grew up with nothing and had to work hard and be self-reliant in order to become the successful and powerful woman she is who is. Whereas Elizabeth, while privileged, traveled around the world and immersed herself in different cultures and people. It was a brilliant episode in my opinion.

Okay since no one is talking about it, “Beryl” was plain beautiful and painful. Margaret’s desire to have someone to marry and settle down with even though she knew nothing about Tony. Her whole life has been a tragedy after Peter and that last scene when her almost naked photo was in newspaper and she was dancing to “I Only Have Eyes For You”, for once in her life feeling alive again. Vanessa was mesmerizing.

I cried at the beginning of the Aberfan, but my favorite one is Fagan. I loved the parallels between the population’s needs and problems and the royal family who actually does nothing very constructive but, despite that, claim to live in wealthness and ask respect for « all what they did for this country » as they love to repeat it... that made me think that they are just living on a very big welfare.
@percyweasley93013 жыл бұрын
Who made the writers right? 'Does nothing constructive?' They does far more than president of India does. Those writers should live in a 3rd world country. Then they will know how lucky they are for having someone like HER. What more these writers want from the Queen? Only in absolute monarchy the queen can do something more.

I loved how the Queen took everything in stride but later showed Mrs. Kennedy what the Queen was made of when she faced the King of Gowanda and danced with him it was shocking but it proved only she was tough enough to dance with him to guarantee that there was an agreement to the alliance between the West and the African King Gowanda.

Let's straighten something out. Edward VIII abdicating didn't clear the way for Elizabeth to eventually become queen; his lack of a direct heir did. Had he been allowed to marry Mrs. Simpson (and they had never had children, which they didn't) & keep the crown, Elizabeth would've still become queen, it just wouldn't have been until Edward VIII died in 1972.

I'm currently watching season 3. I like pretty much all episodes, but those that stick with me the most so far are the ones that have to do with events involving the population. Every country has its historic moments and traumas, and I guess the show described some of the British ones (for example, I'm thinking of the Aberfan disaster or the big smoke in season 1). Being from another country, I didn't know about most of those events, so for me it was a first time discovery and I'll admit some of them made me tear up.
