Man, Riley's Anxiety Attack had me shaking, breathing heavy, my heart rate elevated, it was that intense, like my best friend, Alex had to hold my hand to comfort me during that scene, I saw myself in Riley, and it was like I was watching myself having an anxiety attack. It actually helped me realize that I have been struggling with Anxiety for a long time.

Another thing that grabbed me was how authentic the panic attack was. How you feel different sensations as it is coming on and try to self talk yourself down. The breathing, the making oneself small, the colouring, the anxiety moving up the body, the quickened thoughts, embarrassment, sense of worthlessness and otherness.

I remember people saying they expected Anxiety to be the villain. I didn't walk into the theater with those expectations, since the first film taught that all emotions are important and none are necessarily bad, but that she would likely find herself making the same mistake that Joy made in the first one.

@louisejohnson6057 I mean life is harsh and unfair the more it goes on the less possibilities you will get and by the time you become an adult you will have to follow a path that you may or may not want, make difficult choices, you may not see your friends or your relatives because you will be focused on works (and give a tons of example like that) but what I mean is the brighter your childhood is the less color it will have as it goes on (I'm not saying you will necessarily be unhappy or depressed but life as an adult is less fun than as a kid)

I have never felt so seen as a fully-fledged adult as I did watching this kids' movie. I interpreted the "feeling less joy" thing as, with so much maturity and more complex emotions present as we get older, you have to reach out for joy. You have to make a conscientious decision to take joy in things. The console at the end is calling to Joy. As I've gotten older, my own anxiety has taken over just the same way she did in this movie, and the portrayal here hit me hard. And the part where Anxiety thinks she's done a good job when she's thought up and projected the absolute worst case scenario! I can't tell you the number of times I have - with full conviction - told myself if I just let the intrusive thoughts in, think up the absolutely worst case scenario, I'll be prepared for everything. It's so freaking exhausting and paralyzing. The scene at the climax when Anxiety is in full panic attack mode, moving a billion miles a minute AND standing still....... I have never seen anxiety portrayed so well. That said, one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a movie ever was when Joy said she was going to tell Anxiety just to not be anxious anymore and Anxiety saying "oh, gee, thanks, I never thought about it like that!" Freaking loved that part! Thanks for this list, this movie has stuck with me since it came out, super on-the-nose list!

That’s exactly what a direct sequel is: a continuation. But I understand if the latest Hollywood sequels have over saturated the market and watered down the value of what a sequel or spinoff SHOULD BE, with this being the prime example: a movie that continues or builds off of what the first film established enough to stand on its own.

So i fell in love with the original movie when i saw it. It was a simplified yet perfect depiction of the inner workings of our brain. Even though i did enjoy the new one (my fave parts The Sar Chasm and the sense of self) i preferred the first movie. I felt it was harder to have an emotional connection to the story and i felt it was a little drawn out. Not to mention the fact the main plot was the same.

I have a set of 3 sibling friends, 2 of which are somewhat special needs, but all 3 share one thing: anxiety. ALL THREE I've helped and supported them through anxious feelings, one of which I saw this with, without him telling me I knew he could identify with all the Anxiety stuff, :) I feel like you shouldn't be so sure about the lack of romantic interest, it really felt like Riley's Girl Crush on Val was so hardcore that it might even cross over into Plain Ol' Crush. Like, about as close to lesbian feelings that a kids' movie can safely get in the current social climate. Her interest seemed too intense for mere hero worship, I think. (I just loved how usually such things devolve into "Never meet your heroes", that meeting them turns into revealing flaws that they shouldn't have been revered in the first place, but Val remained truly wonderful, like how even when her peers talked down about Riley and her friends that Val was valiant and stood up for them. Val showed herself worthy of being looked up to)

Loved it. It is amazing. Based so completely on Neuropsychology and science. I did wonder if children would understand it as they may not have gone through some of it themselves. There’s no romance (she is only 13) as maybe there will be no 3. Not so much emphasis on appearances either is Riley still too young, break outs, body beautiful . There is so much room for other things. Bullying, time away from parents, morals, plenty more to go. I loved in the panic attack scene - the subtle “Anxiety” skulling ‘energy’ drinks which with the caffeine, sugar etc can wind you up and lead to anxiety. There is so much room for furtherfilms.
