One of the things that makes Halifax exciting is the pace of construction. Halifax is growing very quickly with people from all over the world making it their new home. Overall Canada has a positive attitude towards immigration and this is having a wonderful effect on the City. It has a population of 450,000 and if the pace is maintained it should reach one million sometime in the early 2030's. In the last ten years urban planning has been successful and more people are living downtown than at any time in the past. With five universities and community college campuses Halifax is where it needs to be for lasting growth. Shipbuilding and the navy also give Halifax an edge. Now if Nova Scotia can only do the same thing with Sydney. This would start with a bridge between Sydney and North Sydney. This would have the Halifax 1955 effect and help realize the possibility for growth and transformation in Metro Cape Breton. If only our provincial politicians had any idea of how to grow an economy. I give the credit for growth in Halifax to its city government.

@ Mary Rafuse I really like your positive comment.Could you tell me , what is median rental rates in Halifax for 2 bedroom apartment? Is your cost of living reasonable? Also, are there a lot of jobs for newcomers into the city in areas of retail, service, cashiers etc? Sounds like there should be judging by your description of it as a rapidly growing vibrant city..What is your opinion about your weather? I am from Vancouver , which is as you know on top of vibrancy/diversity..but..our housing prices are unaffordable and our employment opportunities are very competettive and wages in service industry are unfairly low for most people except techs, trades and execs..Therefore I am exploring otions to relocate to another city at some point..your kind input will be very much appreciated..

OK so that's proabbly 20 years ago or somthin? Well, during extreme storm conditions some of the suburban neighborhoods (where power is transmitted over airborne cables) may temporarily lose power due to strong wind, but that's an exceptional situation, does not last long, and NOT within the city itself. Oh and btw that's not specific to Halifax but pretty much anywhere in Atlantic Canada.
