I did a road trip of the A1 from start to finish in September last year. One place you must visit in Northumberland is the National Trust Estate called "Cragside." It's probably one of the most picturesque places on their property portfolio.
@BellaDiary3 жыл бұрын
Gosh really?? That sounds amazing!! I shall have to add it to my list!! xx
@jakesinnott43323 жыл бұрын
@@BellaDiaryYeah it was a phenomenal road trip from London to Edinburgh. Road trips are something I do a lot. Nothing like the freedom of exploring amazing sights in your car. Northumberland was amazing when I visited it. Another thing you and your partner should do is drive up to Kielder Forest/Kielder Water and follow the A68 into Scotland. Kielder Water is the UK's largest Lake by volume of water. You will get a very mountainous and picturesque view of the border between England and Scotland. By following the A68, you can also visit the Kielder Forest Park, Northumberland National Park and a waterfall called Linhope Spout Waterfall. Also when you next pass Lindisfarne, stop in the fish and chip shop on the road that leads to the Lindisfarne Causeway, before you get to the Causeway itself. It's called "Barn at Beal." From the viewpoint of the restaurant, you can see the tide go in and out so you don't get stuck in traffic waiting for the tide to go out. Oh and if you ever do an A1 start to finish road trip, the Forth Bridge is a great place to take a photo just a few miles after the end of the A1, if you want a scenic picture of yourselves and the car as a memory to show you completed it.

I was there just in February. Northumberland is my teen home and the most beautiful place to live. Did you visit Berwick on Tweed, the fortified town a mile from the Scottish border? You must have gone through it on your way up to St Abbs or down to Lindisfarne

Jeannette Sheehy do you know I don’t remember if we visited Berwick on Tweed! I don’t think we did!!! St Abbs is the one one I remember visiting and it sounds like we missed out! @@BellaDiary The A1 which you would have been travelling on bypasses Berwick, so you need to come off to go into town. The towns Elizabethan bastion walls are some of the best preserved in Europe and only example in Britain, well worth a visit.
