I think the Phelan, Geoff & Yasmeen, & Bethany storylines were really effective 🤷🏼‍♀️ Phelan was played by an excellent actor and was a great villain. Geoff was so creepy and this I think is an incredibly important topic to explore on a soap because a soap can very effectively replicate the experience of gradual escalation of psychological/emotional abuse. Child grooming & human trafficking are insidious every day things too and need this kind of awareness and exposure. It's important for the topics to be explored with a lot of research and sensitivity to real life victims but just because it's disturbing doesn't mean it doesn't belong in a soap

Weird thing about Geoff feeding Yasmeen the chicken - There was a scene 2-3 weeks earlier where they had another couple round for dinner (potentially Brian and Cathy but I don't remember) and Geoff actually served a chicken and implied to Yasmeen that it was her pet chicken, stating "Well you said she was getting a bit old!" Yasmeen then replied in a slightly disgruntled and minorly put out voice "I didn't mean you could cook her..." just as though she'd been slightly inconvenienced by the idea...Yet when he did it for real a few weeks later, her reaction was completely different. I guess one explanation could be that they had company the first time but still, I just found her two reactions to the same scenario just weeks apart very strange.

I don't think any of these stories went too far. Coronation Street is a soap opera, and soap operas don't last if they only do feel good stories. Suspenseful stories give the actors a chance to show off their talents, and they keep us on the edge of our seats. That said, I did cheer when Geoff fell, and I did cheer when Anna had her revenge. Coronation Street is always paced to build to a big climax, and I watch in the USA. Coronation Street tends to give viewers a big payoff for staying tuned in as stories slowly unfold.

I think we need to bear in mid history. If we look back at corrie's from the 60s and 70s, maybe the 80s, and maybe the first 10 to twenty years of emmerdsle farm or even the first 50+ years of The Archers, we have to bear in mind that "soaps" (except the wonderful crossroads) were meant to be a relflection real life. When Eastenders, and more so Brookside, came along they became more about social messages. So yes, if you compare Corrie to the old days it's over the top, but if you place modern soaps in their place they are all same old same old. As for the team crash, that was actually a repeat storyline. A steam train crashed off the viaduct back in the 60s, hence some of those bricks are cleaner than most of the others!

I don’t thin bethany’s storyline was too far. This happens all far too often and many girls don’t know the manipulation tactics. Seeing it so realist is important I think

Bethany's grooming storyline wasn't a trendsetter. EastEnders depicted Whitney's grooming in 2011.
