I once rescued two baby Iridescent Sharks from a neglect case where they were shoved in a tiny 10 gallon that looked as if it had never seen a water change in its lifetime. Well, as soon as I took these babies home, I decided to do the research. THIS is when I found out that they could reach a whopping 4 feet long! As soon as they were healthy enough to be rehomed, I immediately put them onto CL, stating that "you must have at least 250 gallons per fish" (because that's apparently how many gallons one of them needs, if I remember correctly). Not too long later, and someone contacted me saying how they were setting up a new 500 gallon heated pond (we live in Colorado where it's cold, so as I always say, "heated is needed"), saying how they've been cycling it for two weeks and wanted to keep a couple of large monster fish! I told them how they could probably only keep these fish in the pond. They seemed fine with that! So, long story short, I did rescue two youngsters from a very neglectful home, but with the right care, they grew up to be stunning (and absolutely ginormous) hand-feeding gentle giants! 😄

Hi John, I just watched your video- 10 Titan fish-- I was so excited to see some of my favorites. I haven't had fish for some time due to " life's upsets". Bit I wanted to share with you my 3 ultimate fish that I did have years ago in my 125 gal tank. #1- Arrowana, I had a silver one that started out at about 1 1/2 inches and got about 11inches. #2- Clown Knife- I purchased 2 about 2" and 2 1/2" , they were also in the 125 gal and grew to be approx. 8 + 10" , until "the divorce". That was when my fishkeeping ended, with a big fight in court over them and the 125 gal tank. Very sad. Anyway, my #3 favorite is Clown Loaches-- how can anyone NOT love these cute little guys? A friend of ours had 1 that was close to 12". 😲 What a fish! Thank you for letting me relive a happy time in my life, and for helping me to get back into fish keeping with your videos. Merry Christmas to you and Lisa. And thank you both.

I watched this video purposely to hear what you had to say about the iridescent shark. Over 10 years ago I was that person you described in this video. I purchased a fish, on a spur of a moment, because I thought he was cute. I did ask how big he will get and was told he would do fine in my 150-gallon aquarium and that I could even get two. So I convincingly bought two iridescent catfish. One was black with grey and the other was albino. Before year-end, the albino iridescent, which we called Moby, killed all the other fish in our aquarium. The only person I was mad at was myself for not doing my homework. Moby lived with us for 2 years and a 150 gallon tank was way too small. They deserve to be on the list of "Titans".

I'm about to start all over with cichlids (son moved out etc) and when you talked about Oscars I couldn't agree more. They're fantastic, funny and such personalities. I remember when I first got them and one of them got so scared that he dug through the substrate (and when I say "dug", think Garden Tiller on speed) and hid under the substrate, laying on his side. I thought "Oh God, I've killed him - he's had a heart attack and died".) I cautiously moved the substrate away - and then he decided that he wasn't dead after all. We became buddies in no time. I wish I could have them again but I had a 154 gallon tank (700 liters) and can't have that size of a tank again. But I just love them!

I remember those days. I was amazed at how strong oscars are, too. I couldn't believe the size and weight of the things mine moved around. I finally had to remove most of it out of concern about glass getting broken. I had to remove filter intake and outflow extensions for the same reason. The oscars would remove them. They banged heaters around, too, so I had to hide those as best I could. I recently saw canister filters with the heater inside them. Would've loved one like that when I had oscars.
