I love coming back to this video once in a while. It's a great way to compare and contrast the toys of yester-year with what's in the market now and really see how far we've come. Looking back, there was something so special about that Armada Unicron. To me, not only was it the crown jewel of its line...it was one of the greatest Transformers toys ever crafted by the hands of human beings. There's a very good reason why it got so many repaints/retools in its lifetime and why the character was never attempted again in this scale until Studio 01 Cell and the overpriced pile of panels we call HasLab Unicron. It didn't need to be. This one was already as close to perfect as one could get. In particular, the Amazon exclusive Generations version with the G1 head sculpt still stands as my personal favorite Transformers toy ever made.

I remember stumbling on this video back in 2010 when I would watch KZbin videos on the Wii's internet channel. All I ever knew as a kid were the movie toys, so this video was like a peek into a totally new dimension of Transformers I never knew even existed. 9 year old me was totally enamored by the backdrop of TJ's collection, and this list only made my imagination go wild thinking of what other awesome figures existed out there. Now im almost 23, and seeing TJ still around makes me happy. This video always takes me back to a simpler time. And that 16-bit cover of the Kamen Rider Decade theme plucks my nostalgia strings like few other things can.

CYBERTRON OPTIMUS IS #1! I don't care that he doesn't have 8" hands or that the backpack can be a bit backheavy in Super Mode. He is AWESOME! To me still the best Optimus Prime I've ever played with and one of the best Prime's of all time.

Even though it is 2014, this will always be one of my favorite videos that you (TJ) have made. It was the first vid of you (TJ) I had ever watched, and I will never forget it either. You should do this for the 30th anniversary of Transformers as well (unless 4 years isn't long enough for you to attempt this kind of vid again).

That's so crazy....I actually had Armada Unicron as a kid and knowing that it actually made it onto your list as one of the best Transformers feels so weird to me for some reason. I also remember that I was NEVER able to figure out how the hell that thing transformed (I got it out of the box so it didn't come with any instructions or anything)

Damn. Makes you think what 2020's list will bring. With stuff like the MP Beast Wars figures, Siege, The Prime Wars Trilogy, MP 10, Studio Series, Thrilling 30s. I still can't believe that Combiner Wars and the Prime Wars trilogy as a whole only started in 2015, and before that Generations kicked off in 2012. Over half of the past decade has seen amazing figures like Springer, Siege Prime, Metroplex, Omega Supreme, Devestator, Predaking, Triggerhappy, Twintwist, and even more. Sure, the 2010's didn't exactly start in a good place with Power Core Combiners, but even then there was still the RTS and HFTD lines, and now we're finally getting CHUG figures of non-G1 characters like Galaxy Convoy and eventually Armada Optimus Prime! (though that probably won't be until 2020) And Siege Jetfire is amazing! TLDR, the 2010's may have started off a bit strange, but now the list would be insanely hard to make, with so many amazing figures coming out in the past 5 years alone. Oh, and I haven't even mentioned MP 36 yet!!!

Bobby Stinklehoffer I got them both. The voyager was the original size, Hasbro blew it up to the $50 price point to have a big toy on the shelves. The engineering and design work better at the smaller size in my opinion.

Idk if that's the Aligned version, but the Unicron Trilogy backstory (as well as 'current G1') named the Creator of the Universe the Source. Also the Thirteen were originally made to help Primus fight Unicron but Unicron manipulated Megatronus Prime to betray them and become the Fallen. Also Cybertron basically explains that Primus can transform, but requires his power which he sealed in the Omega Lock and Cyber Planet Keys, which were sent off world as apart of the Space Bridge Project. Primus became dormant and somehow the first war began. The Unicron Trilogy universe notes that there was at least 2 wars and seems to imply that the "Decepticons" are a military and political party and the Megatron we follow through the trilogy is not the leader but a major general of the Decepticons. The Decepticons mostly seemed to dissolve after Armada, which only a handful left in Energon. This is actually what leads to Megatron being the only "leader" of the Decepticons from that point on.

Man, I've had my Red and Black version of Cybertron Optimus Prime for 11 years now....It feels so weird yet cool to see him on this list. It's also weird that my Prime has parts from the blue and red one as well (I lost one of the leg cannons so I recently ordered a new pair off ebay). Anyways, nice list TJ! And 2020 is coming.... :P

I honestly think Unicron should be #1. That toy was so cool, it made people get intersted in transformers and it continued to sell long after armada and energon were over. The toy was so successful, it got rereleased in later lines and sold just as well. Plus, he was the most anticipated transformers toy ever. He looked awesome and was so much fiun to play with.

Great job man, this list did exactly what it should, stir up some debate and make the viewer think about their own top 10. I'd easily include most of those on my top ten list, save for Primus and Unicron, maybe replace them with Alternators Hound and Animated Prime. We don't need a top 10 worst, I think your other videos have that covered!

I've got the Top3 for myself. Got Primus for about 30€, Unicron for 60€ and CybertonPrime/GalaxyConvoy for Retail 50€, these did just everything so much right, that it's pretty much impossible for a Transformers-Fan or Collector to pass on these. Annother Toy from the first Bay-Movie, that got everything right, was Leader-Class Brawl (Even tough he called himself stator in the Movie). In both modes, he Managed to show us a sturdy-looking Tank and Robot-Mode, armed up to a maximum, like barely any other figure, and got Light- and Sound-Effects. And I'm also keeping my Ultimate Bumblebee, that tough all his Electronics are stored in a Backpack, looks so much closely to the Movie-Verson on so many Levels (you just have to ignore/detach the Backpack in Vehicle-Mode)

I agree, I LOVE Cybertron Prime. Not only did he look absolutely epic, he still looked like Prime. And I agree, he looked absolutely tough and powerful. I loved the design, and say what you will about the Unicron trilogy, the final battle between him and Galvatron was epic beyond all reason. So yeah, I agree.

Some of my Fav's: 20th Anniversay & Masterpiece Optimus Prime and Megatron, ROTF Devastator, HFTD Opitum Prime [Battle Blades], Ultimate Bumble Bee [Gold Release], and Classic G3 Optimus Prime [With Fans Project Trailer] & The original G1 Optimus & Rodimus Primes just to name a few. Total in collection so far: around 90. Collecting since 1978 so that puts me way past age 36. You're never to old for Transformers.
