I do remember reading about Marco Silva at Sporting CP. He met the league expectations finishing less than 15 points behind the champions and won the Cup of Portugal. I think the sacking of Marco Silva was a cover-up to bring in Jorge Jesus to piss off their crosstown rivals Benfica and you know what it worked.

Can't really say Ranieri's sacking was undeserved in my opinion. Yes he achieved the impossible last season but as reigning champions you can't get relegated no matter the stature of the team. Yes Leicester's team isn't great and they all over performed last season giving themselves a false profile but they're still champions and are too good to be relegated. They were showing 0 signs of improvement, 0 league goals in 2017 prior to his departure, relegation looked inevitable with him in charge. Their squad is comfortably a mid table team. He obviously lost the players and dressing room, unable to motivate them and only one person is going to pay the price, not 23. As a Chelsea fan I witnessed it last season. 2 wins from 2 since Ranieri's sacking proves it was the right decision. There is no room for sentiment in football especially as a manager. Nobody is immune from the sack despite their achievements. Also from the owners perspective being relegated would be damaging on the finances and income of the club. They were left with little choice sadly.
@chrish23597 жыл бұрын
it is harsh though, after doing what he did for the club, only to be booted out months after
@Mezza19967 жыл бұрын
Chris H. Of course. He's one of the nicest people in football. I feel he should've stood down at the end of last season. Ended it on a high having achieved the impossible. I'm sure he knew it would only be downhill in terms of position and success but I'm not sure he would've predicted a relegation battle. All turned sour fast.
@chrish23597 жыл бұрын
It was destined to go downhill but they did have european football to look forward to
@dreamswet80197 жыл бұрын
MagnificMeryk, his sacking was completely undeserved I don't care what anyone says. Where the fuck was Vardy all season, where was Mahrez, Wes Morgan. None of his "big players" did anything all season in fact these players even had the audacity to ask the board to sack him, then win their next two fixtures. Teams like Leicester deserve to go down to the championship, maybe they can learn something from Leeds or Nottingham Forest.
@Tom-gy3zg7 жыл бұрын
If would have finished 16th last season he and now this season as it is he would still be in a job, simple as that. He over achieved with a below average squad and took players who have consistently championship or relegation threatened level and turned them into premier league champions. That resulted in them thinking they were world beaters when it was just a squad of average players so basically he got sacked for over achieving when last season they were one of the favourites to go down it was mainly the players involved.

I agree that he isn't a great manager but his sacking at Chelsea was uncalled for. Chelsea's Premier league form was good at the time but he was essentially sacked for not being able to replicate the incredible champions league run the previous year. The reason Chelsea crashed out was because of injuries and only lost by a small margin. His overall record at Chelsea was 29-9-9, by percentage, this isn't consistent with other sackings at Chelsea. What's worse is that he was a fan favorite at the club and was replaced with the manager Chelsea fans hated the most.

real madrid didn't spend 4 years with capello without a title. There were many managers that passed through Madrid from the moment that Del Bosque was sacked in 2003 to when Capello arrived in 2006/ In fact, Capello was brought in just one year exactly just for that: Just to win a title. Which he did, and then was sacked.

Gary Rowett was not "undeservedly" sacked. Nor was he sacked after a poor run of results. We had just beat Ipswich the previous day ffs. Rowett was sacked because he pissed off the new owners with the way he handled contract negotiations. He requested a new deal when we had our previous owners because qpr and fulham offered him better deals, fair enough. When they both came in for him again late 2016, Rowett pushed for another contract, demanding premier league manager wages despite us being one of the poorer teams in the Championship. Then when we offered him the better deal, he turned it down because he thought he could get the Norwich job. I still love the guy, and would have him back in a heartbeat tbh, but one thing you don't want to do to new owners, is piss them off/disrespect them. He played with fire and lost.

LVG? Finished on level with 4th place with a way worse side than Mourinho's who are 6th rn and without a hope. Not to mention how he got sacked right after winning the FA Cup???
@tasalamad18027 жыл бұрын
Evil Hassy One of the big reasons fans wanted LVG out was his style of football it was so boring to watch. Yes i agree his squad was much worse than morinhnos and he did get us 4th in his first season but it was his second season that was unacceptable. We were knocked out in the group stages of the champions league to teams we were much better than. The Fa Cup triumph was great to win but we finished 5th missing out on CL football by goal difference our attacking was horrendous and that was the season all big teams struggled. Despite Fa Cup win nothing would have saved LVG and rightly so he had to leave. Also less than 5 points seperate 2nd and 6th so if we play well and luck is on our side we could easily go 2nd soon

Birmingham should count themselves lucky to be where they are. If I remember correctly, they could've been in a lot worse place. Doncaster were beating Charlton 3-0 or something like that before the game got abandoned due to water logged pitch, and they lost the game when it was replayed. But if the result had gone ahead, Birmingham could've been relegated that year. Sure the sacking was really unfair, but Zola could be on to something with the addition of a few more players. Could be the team to see next season in the Championship.
