Govt should make a rule that a car less than 10 lakh should have 4 star rating in both adult and child occupant and 5 star in cars over 10 lakh. Every year 1.5 lakh people die due to road accident. These steps will not completely stop the accident but will reduce the number manyfold.

With one order the government of India can ban all unsafe Cars in the country but for that willingness is required, just ordering Car makers to provide passive safety is like befooling citizens of the country. Secondly, it is the responsibility of people not to make a compromise with their own life as well as the life of their families by purchasing unsafe Cars.

Nowadays people are seeking atleast 10-20 inches of infotainment system but no-one is demanding for safety levels 👏 If people realise & raise their voice for safety cars then whole Indian market will change its direction against to safety standards. But still many people can't change & that's the reason few brand car sales are on top everytime. I'm not pushing any brand to negative way but people should realise that it's their right to choose safety over quality features & accesories. One should keep in mind that engine refinement, air filters, peaceful service & low maintenance charges will not save anyone from any unexpected incidents.

Honda is providing 4 star rated cars like City 4th Gen,Jazz from 2014.. at that time no GNCAP existed.. Then Amaze scored 4 star and Now City 5th gen is 5 star rated by ASEAN NCAP and according to Honda,Indian variant is equivalent to Same Thailand's 5 star rated variant

Thank you a ton for choosing the topic of vehicle safety ! In many forums & portals Safety doesn't always come as the Most Important Issue but rather other aspects like features, Engine specs, looks ( Panoramic Roof) etc. These are not unimportant by any means however when you buy a vehicle & travel on Indian roads you are responsible for the passengers traveling with you as well as the pedestrians & other vehicles. Maruti has done marketing wonders by correctly identifying the Indian Consumer Psyche, particularly the Value For Money orientation of them 8:49 & has literally made a killing by mass producing Most unsafe cars that are blockbusters. I remember Mr Khattar commenting once that Maruti cars are safer than Two Wheelers. What a pathetic statement to make from such a fabulous leader ! Even the mightily successful Korean Hyundai & many other Japanese Mfrs ( with the exception of Toyota) have a lot of ground to catch in this regard. Congrats again for this discussion !! 👌👍👏💯

Yes speed is a major factor. My Ertiga has loads of passive safety features. However, build quality is important too. But as buyers we don't have a voice. These bloggers can lobby with the government to fix a standard like using minimum certain percentage tensile steel, etc. Manufacturers should be given a deadline of 1 year to modify their designs and plants to roll out only 4-5 star grade vehicles. Another point: What about 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers? Owing to balancing issues, they are even more prone to dangerous accidents.

I am very happy that you have spoken up about this very important subject. I am particularly upset with Hyundai and Kia. They make 5 star rated products abroad but in India they give us 3 star product. I cancelled my booking for Creta when I found out that it was a 3 star rated whereas the same made in Indonesia was 5 star rated. The Indian Creta does not even deserve 3 star as it has unstable body shell. These companies who deliberately give us dangerous products should be taxed heavily to penalise them.

Thats why gone for Honda Amaze. 4 star rated family car. Seen an accidental Amaze, the impact was such that front and rear were fully damaged but cabin was intact. Heard everyone was ok inside after the accident. If any Suzuki or Hyundai were there imagine the fate of the passengers. That changed my outlook during car purchase. Never compromise on family safety. Mileage and other things are secondary. Happy with my decision. Anyday Honda.

Safety measure sirf crash test se nahi hoti. Gadi ke woh features jo accident prevent kare woh zaayda important hain. Moreover, log aajkal highways par 150-200 ki speed par bhaga rahe hain and accidents mostly 100+ speed par hote hain, 5 star rated cars bhi khatam ho jaati hain usme.

Well said, apart from accident speed, u have to consider the accidents, for example toll gates, intersections. people coming in the wrong ways. People in Tata Cars and Mahindra and Volvo/VW/SKODA might escape as their body is strong, 0/1/2 star cars will crush badly and might case severe damage to passengers even if u are wearing seat belt.
